I know Magnus says that lead climbing is boring to watch. But, I beg to differ. I have really bad knees, and I don't boulder. So when Magnus does lead, it gives more motivation to go try more difficult routes! Love these videos
Agreed! But I think it also comes down to mixing it up. If Magnus was only doing indoor lead it would get boring. I’m actually somewhat “burned out” by his indoor bouldering content. I think mixing up indoor lead, bouldering and also outdoor climbing would be great. But that’s just my preference and I know his other content gets a lot more views so we will probably see more other content.
I've started climbing a few months ago and Magnus had a big influence in that. But what amazes me is how EASY he makes it looks. Because of how strong and technical he is, it makes the hardest route seems like it's intermediate. Its crazy.
Honestly, my first time at the gym I thought I'd have an easier time with the holds but Jesus, did Magnus skew my perception of climbing and how hard it is - but it's fun so it's worth it.
I've been climbing for a while and it's a weird mix of motivational and demotivation to see him fly through something that I would struggle to establish on.
i cant wait to see magnus and marte do some outdoor climbing as well. Though, magnus does look really strong indoors and seems a little more comfortable too. Get that 7A Marte!!!
I have major shoulder problems and I've already had two surgeries and going in for a third so when I see you do this and you're getting up there in age and you've never had a major injury I consistently cross my fingers and very happy for you.
Let’s goooo Marte! I’m working on getting there this year too. Does she feel nervous falling on lead? I feel like that’s a major factor for me in my lead grades. Hopefully we’ll both make it happen this year 💪
That would also be quite interesting to cover! I also feel like I'm really limited by my fear or uneasiness. Would be interesting to hear from Marte how she deals with it.
If you can campus any lead route you are stupid strong. Magnus you just did that after trying 2 challenging routes, one you didnt actually complete. Your conditioning is insane and it was a great idea really fun to watch although i thought you were crazy before you started it
Great video of impressive climbs! 💪 I also enjoyed the off commentary a lot where you explained parts of the route and the multi angle shots. Looks very professional and makes it a joy to watch. Oh, and good luck for the 7a, Marte! Great to see you improve so much and not be (too much) discouraged by Magnus.
absolutely killin it magnus💪🏼 Casually almost campused a route at the end of a session. Just makes me realize how much room i have to improve much love from north carolina ❤️
I've been addicted to this channel for about six months now. Linked to it through the "Solo" movie which did the usual RU-vid rabbit hole thing. Fascinated by watching these climbers overcome so much with such humility. Very inspiring. So much so, as a woman who could collect Social Security and weighs 1.5 X what Magnus weighs, I went to a bouldering gym my son belongs to despite the idea being ridiculous. I made sure I stayed out of the way of the kids, but when a V0 or V1 opened or the side climbing wall was open, I just tried it. Falling off the wall is the best part because unlike the young, when I fall even from 3 feet I roll. But that in itself gives me confidence. Hey, I can fall. I've gone 3x. Made it to the top 3x on the easiest routs. I get gassed after about six attempts. Done for the day. But I love the culture. Nobody bothers me or looks at me like I don't belong. A few kids even talk about the wall as if I were one of them. (And I know a little jargon thanks to this channel.) Brought my nephew with my son and we spent about 2 hours there. My nephew never climbed before in his life but he loved it. I've only got ten years on him but unlike me, he's in fantastic shape. It's the climbing and the strategy puzzzle we love. So a great day for the three of us. Such a great cuture. I've done a lot of sports young but honestly, there's something really cool about climbers. Unlike any other sport, everybody is on the same team against the wall, which has its own personality. Just a great sport.
I loved the commentary starting at around 3:22. I don't know much about climbing, so hearing the voice-over describing what's going on from the Magnus perspective was very cool. I don't think the videos of lead climbing are boring, but I think having the Magnus voice-over makes it 1 million times cooler
Love seeing some rope climb-graceful and solid. It's always hard to tell how bad a hold or section is, but when I see your back turn red from the blood rushing to the muscles, it's the indicator that what you're doing requires A LOT of strength and stability. Always very impressive.
I quit caffeine as well 2 months ago, there's good and bad days where I feel I need it but overall my energy and focus is so much more balanced. Stay cold turkey and you wont regret it!
I can't believe the great condition you're still in. I know you work hard and all that, but for a "retired climber", you're still crushing at a top tier level.
Boulders and this that done. From a fan's standpoint, these long climbs help me be mentally part of the process. I can see the future holds and problems and watch Magnus solve them for me. I really enjoyed this video. ---- Coffee is a special treat for me. I'd rather have a nice cup instead of a dessert, even when it's black coffee. Good luck with your resolution. Same for Marte!
Wow I didn't knowI l liked bouldering content this much prior to finding your channel, Magnus. I think I will give it a try myself! Thank you so much! greetings from Colombia
YES! Loving this lead climbing content... It would be super cool to get more videos with tactics for lead climbing (e.g., rests) & follow along with your endurance training. Impressed / inspired that Marte is projecting 7a already.
I'm not even a climber, but I've been hooked on your videos the past few days.😁 You have great energy and amazing content. Keep it up and good luck with all your bouldering shenanigans.
Hey Magnus, just wanted to say some of my favorite episodes you have filmed have been your lead climbing videos as well as the guests that join you (thinking of Pete, Heinz/Nathan). You have inspired me to start bouldering with the desire to eventually get into lead climbing! So while these video may get less views than other videos, they tend to be my favorite.
I just wanted to say THANKS YOU for everything you did so far in the climbing scene. You are the reason why I started my own French Climbing youtube and it literally changed my life. I am really grateful and wish you the best for the future!
I think a behind the scenes video of your camera man would be really fun, like the fact that he has to run the stairs while you are climbing. Keep up with the amazing work!
Love the lead climbing! Thanks for sharing. Giving up caffeine is a smart goal. Maybe you'll inspire me to give up sugar... Rooting for Marte to reach her climbing goal too!
Seeing the "running up the stairs with the camera" bit - I would love a video where first you upload the normal video and then afterwards a making of, where maybe we can get to learn a bit about what is involved filming-wise, how you guys improved over time, what you learned, what you still want to be better at.
Navy is a really good color for you, Marte. Nice choice! I mean, that's probably why you chose it. As for climbing, do whatever grade or route you like. We will cheer you on! :)
It's been 2 months I haven't watch your videos because the Gym is all closed in my country since January. So I try to stay away from any climbing stuff to calm my desire of climbing. They are nearly re-open soon, the first thing I do is watching your video and this already heat up my body, thankyou
This is my climbing gym as well! Although I'm a complete noobie, this place is such an asset to the city and people of Oslo and surrounding areas. There's other great climbing gyms in Oslo as well, but I prefer this one, since it's very well maintained. Brought my 7yo nephew there on Sunday, and he was killing it!
Hey magnus i really like your videos and you are like my goal in climbing since i started 4month ago you inspire me a lot and im sure im not the only one! Did you thought about doing a tips video? Which are the best shoes? Best way to train? Etc etc
mygoal for this year is getting more consistent with 6c, and try some 6c+ routes. 7a feels more or less impossible right now. I can't believe Marte is already thinking about 7a.. Respect!
Not having a morning coffee removes some sparks in your life🤣 Can def relate to that! Been thinking about quitting with coffee as well. Love your videos, you can really see that you put a lot of effort and love into creating and editing🙏
Save belaying is much more important than fast belaying. Don’t feel bad about short-roping. But that being said, after the fourth or fifth quick draw it’s usually quite safe to give - what feels like - a ton of slack. It can even make falls softer and safer (because the climber doesn’t slam into the wall).
"It's really cruxy with awkward clipping postions" - welcome to the same gym setting that has been plaguing the world for 30+ years! No one can escape it, apparently.
I've honestly been checking for another video from you way too often, and as a climber who does mostly lead, this is the kind of stuff I looooove. Gonna have to check out some rungne stuff I think.. Come to Colorado and keep it up! also the rungne link is broken, its a hyper link with no destination it seems.
I've never dropped what I was doing so fast to watch a video before. Love when Magnus drops new content. I've just recently became a subscriber and I can't get enough of this content. Keep up the great work man 💪🏼
