Good evening, Kimsey. I really like the way your bowls look after completing the finishing process. They appear rich and gorgeous. Seems foolproof with excellent results. Very nice. Ray

That bowl you made last month really looks great with the Mahoney's finish on it, as do all the others. Great job, Kimsey. 👍

You've got some beautiful walnut bowls there Kimsey. I use oil & beeswax on all my stuff. I've started wet sanding with 600 grit and oil for my final grit like Kerry Corney does. Makes the surface feel silky smooth and hides small scratches well. Take care, Stuart

Howdy Stuart Thanks I appreciate it! 😎 I’ve never sanded to 600 grit before I bet that’s as slick as glass!

That is some wicked grain in those bowls. Nice work Kimsey

Thanks Paul! 😎 Yep that chunk of walnut had multiple tree branches where i cut that chunk off, must have caused that crazy grain, but I recently cut a different wood with a few branches, don’t look like it will have the same results but I’m hoping i run into some as I turn it.

That's the most Walnut I've ever seen in one place, Kimsey! It must grow on trees around those parts. 😊 It sure did finish up beautifully with that oil and wax treatment you gave it. That stuff really brings out the figure! Looking forward to the Red Bud turning! It's good to see you've been keeping busy, my friend! Phil

Howdy Phil! Thanks I appreciate it!😎 There are quite a bit of them here and there, some down the road over the road im always cringing a little hoping a walnut doesn’t fall and crack my windshield, that just happened to my father in law last season 😣, Have a good one buddy!🤝

Walnut is beautiful. We have an abundance here, so much so that folks will burn it for firewood. The Mahoney’s is good stuff; if you put more coats it will also become shinier.

Thanks for the advice Lee!👍 I knew of a place where there was so many cherry trees they were burning it for firewood in North Carolina, they are quite a few walnut trees here too in certain areas, cow pastures and peoples yards mostly, I love turning the black walnut but the dust is pretty rough,

@@kimseyjustkimsey5256 l have to be more careful with it too. I wear one of those arm sleeves you see BB players wear to reduce the amount of contact with my skin. I’ve heard it is easy to develop an allergy to it and at times I’ve had some skin irritation. It’s not much protection but every bit helps.

I used it on a elm bowl oil only been testing it myself to eat out of. Holding up good but it is starting to look a little dry. can always rub another coat on. That walnut is beautiful.

Thanks for the info on how it is holding, that’s good to know 😎 I’ve got to get a couple bowls made with it so me and my wife can do some testing on it as well. I just put one coat of the oil and one of the wax.

Looks real nice Kimsey. I wonder how often it needs to be reapplied.

Thanks Gary! I ain’t got a clue but I will keep you informed about it, I did hear that it’s not supposed to evaporate like mineral oil, so time will tell, I only put one coat of the oil and one coat of the wax.

I've been using this for a few years now on utility bowls and on hard maple guitar necks. Excellent product. I do refresh the finish with Mahoney wax if a piece sits in the gallery longer that 6 months. The finish really penetrates, still there if you sandpaper it later. I don't bother with gloves since the oil feels good on my hands.

@@kimseyjustkimsey5256 No comparison to mineral oil which is a petroleum product that evaporates away very quickly. Much superior. It's pure walnut oil treated, without additives, which makes it a hardening oil unlike Tung oil.
