Trying the Trangia gas canister adapter. Does it work better/faster than the original alcohol stove?

Hi everyone.
In this video we are showing an additional accessoire for your Trangia: the gas canister adapter.
This product is not being sponsored and I paid it from my own money.
This adapter is not the original Trangia one.
You can find several different brands on the internet.
Take care.

Ive been using both for a year now. I love my spirit burner but it has one drawback, the weight and bulk of fuel on longer trips. Some time back i saw the gas burner option and bought it. It works really well and is great for trips over a week when i can literally carry 1/4 the weight of fuel. By inverting the cannister it can also run on liquid gas in cold weather. It's a great option for me. Good review. 👍👍

Thank you for your comment. On longer trips I can absolutely see the plus of the gas burner. Than I would prefer it as well.

When finished cooking with the Trangia alcohol burner, use the pot handle to remove the upper half of the stove and then it will be easy to sit the Snuffer ring onto the burner.

It was quicker, but I do like the alcohol burner for simplicity. It's nice that the alcohol is dead silent, but I imagine all the wildlife will still know I'm there.

I still prefer the alcohol version as well, definately.

Well done! Good description of the pluses / minuses of the two fuel systems. Time vs weight vs sound. Thanks you.

Lovely video. I always bring both the alcohol stove and the gas adapter with me as a backup solution. I do prefer the quietness of the alcohol but yeah, the gas burner is way to go when tine matters. Greetings from Romania!

That's absolutely true. Thinking about doing that as well on my thru-hike next year. Also because I am not able to resupply in between because of my dog. Greeting back to Romania.

Thank you for this video. I have many cooking systems and the Firebox stoves is what I have quite a bit of BUT I love buying stoves just because and so I’m waiting for my Trangia 25 cook set. I bought the different accessories for it including the fuel burner. My sister (81) and I (73) have been doing UberEats for 3 weeks and we found we were spending a little too much money by buying our food so we decided we would conserve those funds and just cook at a public park. Using an alcohol stove one day my flame kept extinguishing because I forgot my windscreen so I decided that having the Trangia cook set would prevent that from happening again. We’ve been having some good eats eating this way. Greetings from Las Vegas-Catherine

You're very welcome. That sounds like a great reason to buy a Trangia 😉 Must say that I absolutely fell in love with mine this year. It's such an awesome piece of gear 🥰 Greetings back to Las Vegas from the Netherlands.

Good comparison! It's not super surprising that the gas burner is so much quicker, it gives off a lot more BTUs. If you just want to boil water quicker, but are okay with the alcohol stove, I found the kettle to be very helpful. I'd have to time it though, but I found it heats water noticeably quicker than in a pot.

That's a good one as well! Will give the kettle a go as well as I also got that one recently. Maybe will do a comparison video about that as well if something useful comes out of it.

@@theoutdoordogandhikinggirl - I tried it today and I think, while it seems to make a tiny different, it's not as much as I thought. As long as the pot is properly covered, the time gain is small. The kettle doesn't hold much water either, the one for the 27 kit holds about 375ml when filled to the "fold line". You can add more, but definitely not much, maybe 400 or 420ml. With ~375ml it took 4:20 to heat from 19C to solid boiling. I'm using Methanol based denatured alcohol. The pot with cover was ~4:35 for the same amount of water. I find the kettle to be more convenient than the pot and that might have swayed my perception.

Got the gas insert (for the -27) for the following two reasons: 1) I might go into areas where the alcohol stove might not be usable, e.g. “Fire regulations” forbid its use, or denatured alcohol is not available, e.g. California. Note that I have a 1 liter alcohol bottle, so I could carry a week’s supply if needed. 2) getting a steady “simmer” *looks* to be easier. This is a big deal for me. Note 2) I’ve also gotten a butane-adapter, so I can use Isobutane or the “hairspray can butane cylinders” - which are a fair bit cheaper. Since using it at home during power outages is as much or more likely as “travel” use, butane canisters are good.
