TRYING THE VIRAL PLUMP METHOD ON WAVY HAIR

I've been applying product upside down for a long time and I've found that it's better to split your hair down the back of your head and have that part come down the sides of your head (like over your ears) instead of flipping it completely over the top of your head(like putting in a high pony). I really hope that made sense. It will make it easier to flip your head back over without disrupting your hair too much. Also, the finger coiling may have undid your hair's natural texture because maybe they curl the opposite direction naturally.

I have done it all CGM all the techniques all the things and have come to the conclusion that what I did 20 years ago when styling my fine wavy hair is the best. Sometimes I think it’s best to just stick to what comes naturally to us, to listen to our own sense of what we know works for us. I use a curling milk or similar flip my head over twist maybe 10 or so sections and diffuse upside down. It never fails to look its best.

I've been doing this method for basically my whole curly journey. If you want any pointers a few things I do which help me:

the products don't look like theyre getting evenly dispersed using this method. Only the outside of the 7 clumps were covered with the gel so it makes sense that it would end up super uneven

I'm 32 years old and just learning about curl clumps.... that makes so much sense now. I've always had wavy hair and couldn't figure out how to get the nice clumps to stay together and not frizz. This was helpful even tho it didn't work out like you wanted.

I do my hair upside down-ish every time. It's the only way I don't end up with a super flat top. Definitely try the shower instead of the faucet. I have thick, coarse low porosity hair. Mixture of textures, mostly large ringlets. I comb through my conditioner with a wide tooth comb, rinse, then put on my leave in, then my curl cream on soaking wet hair and then gel, still on pretty wet hair. I wrap my hair up in a hair towel while I'm still in the shower. I do stand up for a bit and tip my head to the side so I can coat the top of my hair with the cream and gel more evenly. I don't actually plop, my hair hates it. I also can't diffuse-ever - because it frizzes right up. And finger coiling straightens my hair right out. I'm more of a wash and go type of girl and anything that time consuming annoys me anyway! Lol. Try just scrunching with a towel and air drying and see what you get. Edited to add : my hair is so thick that I have to shampoo with my head down as well or I can't get my fingers through to my scalp on the back of my head. It all matts down if I stay upright and the hair underneath doesn't get enough water to wet it through.

Mel also used a lightweight spray leave-in. For your hair, I'd forgo a leave-in entirely and go right in with a hard hold gel to stop the waves from dropping

Even though it didn't turn out the way you wanted, I really love the fluffy look. I'm more of a messy-look girl, but I'm always trying to shape and encourage my curls. Awesome video!

When my hair is long, I support the ends and push them up toward my scalp with my free hand. This helps to keep the curls from stretching out until they’re dry and set. You can pretty much do this in any position you prefer when drying your hair.
