This is how I modified a standup paddle board with an aluminium frame and attached a solar panel and electric motor to travel infinitely on a lake.

I’d like to suggest adding a couple of amas (Polynesian side floats used on canoes) for added stability. They don’t have to be long. Maybe look at trimaran sailboats and kayaks for ideas.

This panel can put out close to 100 watts ru-vid.comUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle.The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts.If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.

Surf around RU-vid looking at dinghy cruising videos. The world needs a relatively inexpensive, small drop-in or bolt on electric motor unit like the one you have made here. Cruising dinghies are class designs, kits, or home/design-build and are mono to tri-hull types, including proas. So, companies producing "auxiliary power" units based on standard outbound engine configurations and pricing at the std gasoline outboard range as competitive are just not the answer, people will have unique places in their boats for placing batteries and choosing their sizing and so a motor unit like you have made is what is needed. Bravo on your ingenuity and humor!

I think that the deeper the motor is, the more the pressure will inhibit cavitation. However, it's a trade off between that& shallow water operation & manoeuvrability, because a long plate to hold the motor will oppose rudder control. One solution is to simply mount the motor on the rudder itself, rather like an outboard motor, it will aid manoeuvrability under power, but also increases the likelihood of cavitation, though that also has solutions. At the end of the day, design is balancing compromises. Kudos for putting it together.

6:03 I had a set of “”heavy duty”” jumper cables, don’t remember where they came from, but I had them in my vehicle for years and one day I picked them up and a red clamp fell off because the exposed wire had been bent and broke right at the clamp. So I pried up the crimp on the clamp, pulled the old bit of wire out, then cut back the wire sheathing to expose more wire. But, to my surprise, I hit an in-line crimp. So I cut back a bit further to find a similarly dainty wire. The manufacture had apparently crimped a few inches of heavier wire to the clamp, then crimped the heavy wire to the stretch of dainty wire, and covered it up with what looked like a cable strain relief. If you looked at the thickness of the wire and the bit of exposed wire crimped inside the clamp, you’d think the thick wire ran the entire length of the cable, but you’d be wrong…

Two stacked inline and behind the steering column running one right cable around to the left and the left cable around to the right to the other two pulleys on earthier side of the boat.

love the idea, i believe the noise from the motor you're hearing is caused by cavitation. its awesome that you made your own proppeler but i think its just a little too small in diameter. thats why the motor might be creating air bubbles, causing the motor spin faster because it has less water resistance. and thats the noise you are hearing i believe.

@micky5150
@micky5150 Год назад
Awesome dude! I don't think you need the cooling pump though.. just an intake pipe - into the flow of the water (forward facing) should be enough to force water up the pipe and round the electronics so you might not need that additional power draw.. although that depends on the shape of the intake and the speed of the boat through the water.

I think you could easily put the solar panels on top as a foldable roof. This would open up a lot of space but still be compact since the roof feet are foldable. Also i would try using a store bought rc boat motor/propeller combo. At least the rc props are very well made to compensate for cavitation etc. Try to use the big Ecoflow Powerstation in combination with a PC/Server PSU. You can run hours of of this. I had a similar idea for ages. Love it! im looking forward to seeing more of this!

@Nick-hm9rh
@Nick-hm9rh Год назад
i think upgrading to a Canoe/Kajak would be good too,
@StevenIngram
@StevenIngram Год назад
@@Nick-hm9rh I was thinking catamaran. This would make the boat considerably more stable, provide room to lay out the entire solar array (left to right instead of lengthwise) , which would provide more sitting room. And if you put smaller motors on each hull, you could better distribute thrust while allowing for differential steering. :) But then again - when prototyping on the cheap - an inflatable isn't a bad way to go. LOL :)

@jaydenblain3599
@jaydenblain3599 Год назад
make the hub of the prop the same size as the motor housing. youre getting a lot of turbulence from there. also dont shape the prop like a jet impeller, those are designed to be sorrounded, you need a lower pitch blade more akin to boat props. and a lower rpm. for instance one outboard i looked up runs the prop at a max of 3000 rpm. Also a flat bottom has no stability in turns, not much you can do about that on a paddle board though. it would be more efficient to use the motor as a 360 degree thruster rather than adding a rudder. 18 volts is a dead battery on your setup, any lower and you may not be able to recharge the batteries. also having the water pump like that is a lot of drag, best to run just a hose to the bottom.

I might be wrong but I think - what you hear is not the motor imbalance. The sound is the propeller either cavitating or ventilating. The propellers do not like to spin very fast but you make yours do it. The electrical propulsion work in this case a bit better with a jet pump or a speed reduction. The impeller of a jet pump can spin way faster without side effects like the propeller does...
