I know that exact area he was fishing at. Its considered one of the few "beach snorkle dive areas" ...the keys really dont have beaches though. Its just a restricted area for fishing to allow for snorklers / new divers in training. Its not exaclty like you cant find access around...every mile you have another bridge you can park at and fish, hes just avoiding them it seems.
@@Goblin1986p we have those in my area in the panhandle and it's stupid. No one snorkels the rocks they put out. It's really just another sneaky way the environmentalist use to close an area to fishing. It's something they really are pushing all over. We need to stand united because if it was up to the granola eating hippies we wouldn't even be allowed to hunt or fish on our own property, much less state and federal property.
@@Goblin1986p Tourism is one of the reasons you can't fish here. Unless you break the law which you find out pretty much anywhere you go you are breaking some law. They love to tell you about it too.
Unfortunately it's pretty much a combination of a chip on their shoulders with a slight of harsh attitude, mixed with job duties which sometimes they go a bit overboard. Most don't have much to do, especially on the week days. I've seen residents get stopped while on their boats for no reason, the Florida Keys Police can be a pain in the ass, I know how they are, been living in the Keys all my life.
no its been closed by the county as it was getting trashed and causing wrecks every day that why you cant fish from there now and it used to have signs
When I was down on Isla Morada last summer, I had the sheriff come up to me in my Kayak as I was drifting under a bridge out of the pass and he said I couldn't fish there...I asked him why I couldn't fish there and he said I was impeding traffic...I asked him how I was impeding traffic under a bridge, out of the lane of travel and he said if I keep talking, I can go to jail...ended up over the weekend having 3 great interactions with the FWC and 3 horrible ones with the Sheriff's office...seems to be a theme
get arrested, sue for unlawful arrest, get paid for civil rights violations....these pigs need to learn we are free citizens, not chumps in Russia, North Korea or China
look up all your maritime navigable waters statues and be ready to quote the actual laws of that area...not only will you be confident in what/where you're allowed to fish, but be backed by case law in case you are arrested by the FEELINGS/EGO ENFORCEMENT instead of a normal encounter with a properly trained LAW ENFORCEMENT officer.
@@skippylanoue966 they shouldn't even be enforcing fishing, hunting, and boating issues. That's what fwc is for and most of them actually know the regs. We had the same problem with the NAS water patrol boats. They said we couldn't fish near the bridge in a boat that goes over the bayou to the naval air station. There are multiple public boat ramps behind the bridge and there is heavy boat traffic under the bridge at all times. If someone wanted to blow it up that stupid rule wouldn't prevent anything. Then when there was a terrorist attack it was one their flight students from Saudia Arabia, and guess what happened after that? Even more restrictions for local civilians.
My position is that unless it's posted, and it's not private property, the deputy can kick sand. And if he wants to press the bogus case, just raise the stakes and call the game Warden and press charges on the deputy for interference/harassment of a fisherman/hunter. You might even get a nice settlement out of the matter when you sue the sheriff department.
You were catching a lot of Jacks. I saw you caught a new species of Jacks that are capable of driving boats, The Jack-Ass sheriff species. Well done Brant! I wish you hadn't thrown that one back. It's only going to give other law abiding anglers trouble. Thanks for sharing.
In missouri if it’s public you can fish there. Only way that a sheriff would tell you no fishing if you were on private property but then it has to be marked no fishing but that’s in missouri. Great way you handled that but I have the feeling the game warden knew you were ok to fish there with a license and the sheriff didn’t quite know what he thought he did. I might be wrong. But that’s why when I’m bank fishing I always carry a local platte book that shows ownership and boundaries
I understand the reason for rules and laws but it's almost coming to the point where the government just doesn't want anyone to enjoy anything. And heaven forbid you feed yourself for almost free. It's like unless you're an elitist buying your way in you're not allowed to enjoy it.
Elon e to the world of becoming an anarchist. Lol. The state only gets bloated corrupt and more authoritarian no matter what illusion you have of how your country operates.
Your channel brings back so many memories. First saw what looked to me like fishing you were fishing SR60 but could have been Alligator Alley. But today watching you in Marathon took me over the top. We went there every summer and when I saw you help that kid memories flooded. That was over 60 years ago and made me feel like that kid again. Thanks
You need to get a " Bucket Hat" and print out your digital fishing licence, laminate it, and put it in a pouch on the hat!!! 😂😂😂 I've fished in New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arizona...always had my license.... Never once have I been asked by a Fish and Game Officer to produce my license. Same for all the years that I have hunted for Dove, Quail, Ducks and Pheasant, Deer and Elk.. never been asked! We hunted and fished to keep food on the table. Growing up, we ( the 4 of us boys and my sister ) grew up eating game meat and fish! Heck...my best friend and his dad used to take us fishing in New Mexico, and we always came home with plenty of Blue Cats and Channel Cats! His mom made the best fried catfish...hush puppies and Cole slaw! ( She grew up in the mountains of Tennessee...and she knew how to cook! )
As a floridian it seems like the state es everything it can to stop us from fishing. In my town all of the county owned draing ponds and lakes are fenced and posted. They are the only posted areas I trespass on to fish. I am not going to miss out on all of these unfished ponds full of Florida strain largemouth.
I'm sorry that happened to you. The sheriff is wrong and FWC has complete authority over them. I also know that area and had you replied, "no speaky engly" he would have just drove away. 😢
@@westtexan2263 he couldn't get out. If he wrecks that boat on the rocks it's his ass. The fwc usually doesn't even check shore anglers from thier boats. Usually they have a guy check the boat ramps by truck, but not much else unless they get a poaching report.
@briansaben5697 Seen it over and over they get away with most everything. When they get caught, about the same thing that happened to them being here illegally- nothing.
Brant, most fisherman go a lifetime without seeing a game warden. Not you, he gets you on day one, and the Sherriff on day two. Plus, the bite was on. I dont think that Sherriffs deputy can tell you not to fish there after the game wardens had no issues with you being there. Those waters in the keys are beautiful and the fishing is truly one of a kind. Cant wait for the next one to drop, good luck & stay dry
Take a boat out on saltwater in Florida and there is a good chance of getting stopped. Only places I get checked shore fishing is national seashore areas (fed park rangers) and shorelines that are in wildlife management areas, state parks, boat ramps,, and the like.
Ahhh, The Fills. That area is closed to everyone now due to construction and restoration, along with issues arising from some folks coming down from the mainland and absolutely trashing it. It’s been a sore subject for years due to some folks not brining out their trash, fighting, illegally parking their vehicles, anchoring their boats so they blocked the channel, walking back and forth across the road blocking traffic, trying to camp there, and so much more. The county (and Village of the Islands/Islamorada) put up ‘no parking’ signs in some areas and trash cans to try to help curb some of the activity, but folks just moved them, and continued on. Other than the trash, broken bottles, and fights, the main thing that caused the issue was that folks would stop their cars in the road, effectively blocking traffic, while trying to wait for a spot to open where they could park. Understand, this is the only highway in or out of the area, and the parking issues caused standstill traffic. Basically they did it to themselves. They have had hearings about if/when they plan to allow any access to the area, but the FDOT and residents want it shut down for good. Others have been trying to turn the area into a park, with bathrooms and parking. Recently there were no trespassing/parking signs around the area, as well as bright orange can barricades, but I’m not sure if they were moved for the construction or for some other reason as I don’t really see them in the video. Sucks that the actions of a few caused issues for everyone. Sadly, there are a lot of places in the Keys that are headed in that same direction.
I'm all for law inforcement inforcing the law on people breaking it. I'm against them making up laws and inforcing them because you might park in traffic but didn't or might drop trash but didn't .
State officers really do make fishing enjoyable for you and your family. What a joke. There able to legally violate your rights. Keep up the great videos!!
I've fished charters inshore and offshore, caught a few big fish in my day but by far the most fun i have fishing now is shore fishing with the wife. Something about exploring areas i've never been to and catching fish. Crazy the Sheriff ran you off, conspiracy brain says thats his fav spot and didn't want you giving his fish sore mouths :P
Looks like you're right by Indian Key. We would drive there from ft Lauderdale in the morning, park on the side set up our coolers and grill and just fish drink eat and swim all day. About 50 yards off the shore on the east side is a sandbar that's fun to swim to. They have no parking signs now for most of that area but you can sneakily park at the marina across the bridge and walk. We would go there maybe 3 times a year. Everyone else we met there were from Dade or Broward there for a day trip. Locals tended to not bother with that area too much other than launching boats and tourists from out of state stuck to charters and resorts and restaurants. Was a nice little area. Fwc rolls by that area a few times a day during the busy season.
Ridiculous the fun police on duty. If there were no signs posted, you can fish there. Kinda like trespassing signs, they have to be posted every 100 ft. Enjoyed your video.
I'm always amazed at how many "NO" signs there are in Florida. Seems the only yes they have is leaving your money there and getting the hell back to your own state.
We do have more public hunting land than most eastern states. Literally millions of acres in my three or four county stretch of the panhandle. Three of our rivers are surrounded by state owned wild life management area that are public. It's the counties that fence and post everything they can. Usually it's because some connected good old boy has some pull and wants it for their own use.
You handled that situation the100% correct way at that time. No reason arguing or saying anything their mind was already made up and nothing said would change it...but you and everyone else know, if you weren't allowed to fish there the game warden would have told you that. I feel like that area in FL has alot "insider" locations. A deputy comes by and sees you in their spot or in their buddies spot, and says you're not allowed To be there. Iv been seeing it happen ALOT lately. Almost been getting the feeling they don't like the tourists coming in and want to make it as difficult as possible for them. That's kinda the reason that part of the state is nice. From all the tourists and people on vacation all that generated revenue.
You follow the officers request, check the actual written regulations, and if you were legal you go to the state game wardens and press charges for harassment while legally fishing. You have video evidence. That's a felony in my state I assume Florida has simular laws.
@@maybeitsyou1317 I never said have the sheriff investigate. It would be FWC (the agency that checked his license) a state law enforcement agency investigating a county sheriff. Two totally separate law enforcement agencies.
Darn, I have watched so many of Brant’s videos when he runs afoul of the law. Guy leads a fishing life of crime. A real angling Jesse James! Keep up the adventures! Thanx for the fun!
Great video Brant! Some awesome catches in this one. Too funny how Brad got the boot in his latest video there too. At least the game warden was a nice guy. Lol Thanks for sharing!!!
That sheriff deputy sucked big time he did not even take the time to tell you why it was illigal to fish there unless there was more to the conversation we did not see.
I am a ND resident and go into MT to fish. Get checked everywhere I have fished. Creeks, rivers and lakes throughout the state. If only so lucky with lottery 😁
Great video, Brant! It's great to see you helping the younger angler. I would think it would be posted if you weren't allowed to fish and would think the game warden would know.
Welcome to Monroe lol they give us bank fisherman a hard time yet boaters go under the passes in unauthorized tunnels under the bridge and catch our rods. Beautiful day out on the water though!
I would have mentioned why isn't there signage stating no fishing? How is someone supposed to know! That's ridiculous. If I'm not mistaken the Sherriff department does not have law enforcement for fishing rules and regulation's in the State of Florida. That's FWC jurisdiction.
Hey man here is the thing. If you are standing in the water they are powerless to tell you you can’t fish. Only if you are standing on land does MCSO have control over you fishing.
That’s y I just launch my kayak man. No signs is crap, and unfair to us fisher men and ladies. I’ve noticed that more and more in Florida over the last few years. Which brings me to my first point, kayak. !!!!!!
What plastic were you using to catch those jacks? I'll be in our intercoastal in Pompano Beach later this year and thinking this would work there, know there are jacks and tarpon around.
You probably got rookied by the Deputy. No signs, Game Warden didn't say anything? Odds have it that's his and his buddies favorite bank fishin spot! LOL! Welcome back to The Keys...
Great video Brother! I'm sittin' at home with broken neck, wishing I was right there... by the way, I would have told that Sheriff, to show me why I can't fish there... FWC is the most powerful law enforcement agency in this state... if he didn't run you off, f*** those other guys...
Wish you asked that Sheriff what the regulation was about fishing there? I can't find anything on the internet from FWC, or Monroe County saying you can't fish there. I'm coming down there next week and plan on doing the exact same thing.
I thought the same. Florida resident and never ever had a problem fishing public area. If they asked to leave, I’d ask them where “No fishing” sign at? And damn sure I’m not in private properties.
Monroe county has all sorts for statues and local ordinances that prevent a lot of things. Every thing to how many spaces can be at a boat ramp to what bridges you can and can’t fish from. There are a lot of spots not marked that you can not fish from that a county cop would know and not the FWC. There are even canals you can’t fish in down there. Always check the local ordinances on which key you are visiting before you go. Brant did the best thing and moved on, down there not knowing doesn’t keep you safe from fines. Trust me I know. Keep up the great videos man, epic stuff for sure!
@@pain_weaver I researched this and an ordinance is in fact 100% a law. An ordinance is a local law. County, city, village or town and can be enforced. Know your facts before you comment.
