Trying to get the Post Banger Spool Block Working - Will It Work?

Let see if I can get this spool block to work on our post banger. After buying the used post banger we wanted to make some adjustments so that it is safe to use for the operator. Just found your site I am Tim from Canada WildwoodFarm The Olny change I would do is your Pounder Handle take it off and put a 90 deg bend in ti so It is always away from the others and can not be used until your ready...... Grreat Job and your Partner is Very smart as well.

Hi James, well done plumbing in your post banger that will make life so much easier for you and means you can operate the machine single handed and by the way for what you paid for it it’s a tidy post banger . I’m part way through stewardship fencing work and I’ve been meaning to do the same thing with my parmiter but it’s been a drekly job and if you’re Devonian you know how that goes.👍

When you're plumbing it up properly I'd suggest a bigger return pipe from the block to the tractor, into a free flow return on the tractor if it has one, we have a protech post bumper which is pretty much the same as your one, nearly identical, the free flow return makes it bump much harder... if that makes sense 🤷‍♂️ and the tractor Hydraulics aren't under load constantly 👌👌😊

Just a suggestion: with the banger/bumper lever, I would paint or put a coloured rubber top on the lever to tell the difference from the other three. That's what my post banger has. Brilliant job.

it seems to work only thing you might want to do is put in resticters to slow small rams down or turn the spool valve down on the tractor so its not so sharp

My levers are horizontal about waist height, so when you're banging for a long time gives you the feeling that you're actually lifting the weight with your hand and keeps you further away for safety and if you turned the spool block upside down you could have a lot shorter pipes and no need for right-angle fittings

Onec the hydraulics are finally sort the next step would be to mount the banger on a 2.5 or 3 ton tracked dumper

It would be great if you plumbed and tested the banger spool both ways, would be very educational. The double spool on the tractor is quite happy operating the single acting ram of a mower etc, but maybe you have achieved a faster drop speed on the banger. Very nice job 👍

Yeah it’s the faster drop speed that’s required, but the issue was the double acting spool that would have slowed it even more.

We did the same idea on our browns post knocker and all we did was blank the one side your taking about going back to the tank and it worked absolutely fine it just runs back thought the pipe well it did on our one maybe worth a try before making that adapter

Oh that brings back some memories! A browns was the first banger I ever used on the front of a Unimog when I was 16 💪🏽
