I love this. The final colour of the wood is beautiful and the handles contrast wonderfully. Btw, I like the sound of your voice, its very calming on the videos.
What a beautiful piece of furniture. The different waves of wood grain are gorgeous. Love those drawer pulls. I’ve never seen iron ones. Terrific end result ❤❤
not exactly the same blade but the direction the tree was cut. the pattern is natural in the wood- but it has to be "sawn" in the correct direction for the pattern to be visible.
Yes, that's Tiger oak mixed with quarter sawn oak. Originally this would have been stained in dark walnut, but I really like the update you did on. I agree those steel pulls are great.Thank you for posting its beautiful.
I'm still watching video But that Wood is actually Quartersawn Oak ..whereas back In the Early 1900s cabinet Makers we're allowed to Cut down HUGE Oak Trees and the Quartersawn Is the Angle These Craftsman Hold the Saw and The result Is this GORGEOUS Wood grain...This Older Method is often Confused with tiger wood..But This Particular Cut Is Higher end As this is a Skill with amazing results that nowadays Can Not be repeated as they don't allow Large enough oak trees to Be cut down no longer and tiger oak Can Be as it's Veneered into thin Strips and matchbooked ...hope this Helps ...okay back to your amazing video🥰✌️
it's quarter sawn oak. if you want the figure to pop you really have to do either a dye or stain first. by doing a clear coat and then toner it basically negated the figure- which made a piece of my figure loving heart die :(
That finish lost the beautiful contrast between the light and dark of the wood. I might've tried something like Restor-A-Finish before removing the old finish.
I know everyone usually paints their pieces of furniture, but at times a piece should be left so that you can see the wood. This piece is absolutely gorgeous left as is!!!! The words to describe how I feel is, MINE, SOLD, LET’S GOOOO!!! You’re asking for my answer as how I feel about this piece, if I like it? I don’t like it, I love it!!!💖💖💖💖 Great decision!! Until next time. Have a great week. ☀️😎
Now that's beauty and history as it should be!!! I love it!!!! I have a dresser like that myself with subtle differences. Its babied and out of the way from house traffic!!! Oh the stories this piece could tell! Thank you for such a caring and professional approach. Great job!!!!
Thank you so much for the compliment and kindness. I often think about what these pieces have been through and where they’ve been. It’s amazing they still are around today
@@CedarPineDesigns There is also a faux finish Tiger Oak they used often on old furniture to make a less valuable kind of wood look like oak, so it can be tricky!
It's beautiful Samuel, the handles and decorative strip really added something to the piece and it was the right choice to keep it a natural wood colour.
Excellent update! I have three dressers like this, handed down from my great grandparents. I love them (although I hated them when I was a child!) Before you took the finish off, it looked like tiger oak on the front of the drawers but once finished, it does just look like quartersawn oak BUT you make a great and valid point about old growth oak. Those grain patterns are nothing like we have today…I think they look much more “aggressive” and delineated, than oak today. Just my two cents 🤷♀️
lovely...if it were me, I'd struggle with the finish. Matte finish, understated is awesome. OR, take it up a notch? I guess your choice would be hard to improve upon. Much better than the original which seemed like a faux fibish.
I am new to flipping furniture, starting on my first project, though i love watching peoplw flip furniture. My only thought is during the revel of your video at the very end. Put a side by side picture of the before and after. I like the presentation of your reveal but feel that would be a nice addition. You got me to subscribe so keep up the great work!!
Always something new to learn from your videos. Really nice transformation. I didn't know the Behr stain/poly product would act like a toner, and it looks like it sprays really nicely. Will have to try it.
Such a beautiful dresser. Funny but looking at the original state I expected the grain on the drawers to be much more gnarly than it was. Those handles are fabulous. Love the colour it ended up. Great job yet again Samuel. You never disappoint.
Thank you so much. Had I went with a darker stain the grain would have stood out more but the customer who wanted it, opted for something different from the original so this is what I came up with
