Usually its a better idea to use Quick Start with an included top end additive to prevent washing the oil off the cylinder walls and rings. This is especially important if something has been sitting a while.
Yeah mine burned up the points too. All the time. So my peritronix has lasted 5 years now and everyone told me that they'd not last and were quite hostile toward the item lol
I have really liked it so far. It got to the point that every time I needed to start it I had to clean the points but the pertronix hasn't missed a beat
I don't know if it still has one in it, if it does I am impressed it still works since at the newest it would be ~20 years old. I'll try to remember to see if there is coolant flowing in the rad next time I start it up. I'd like to keep it, love the look and it seems to pull some dirt out
When the battery had low voltage I think that kept the electronic ignition from working and I left the gas on while the battery charged and I think it flooded a bit, maybe needle and seat not sealing. Since then I only give it 10-15sec after turning the gas on before hitting the key, haven't had a problem doing that
