Happy 30th of June! Many years ago I created a list of Congolese names with meanings (link bellow):
Tshiluba/Luba, Kikongo, Lingala, Tetela names ...

Tshiluba is a Bantu language spoken in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. A national language, along with Lingala, Swahili, and Kikongo, the prefix Tshi/ or Ci followed by the suffix Luba, means 'Luba language' or language of the Luba people, the baluba.

Kindly asking. Is there a difference between Tshilongu and Tshilongo. Tshilongu is my maiden name and it means flower just as you have said tshilongo means flower . Does the difference in spelling affect the meaning of the name too?

Hi! No, the meaning of the name isn't affected by the u/o. It stays the same. Some words in tshiluba are spelled with u/o at the end, keeping same meaning. Ex All= Bionsu/Bionso Everybody= Bantu bonsu/bantu bonso Why is that? Not sure, perhaps how people emphasize the sounds for U or O. Or per region preference. Same for w/u. Ex Twasakidila/Tuasakidila, Muana/Mwana Similar to saying: Color/Colour, neighbor/neighbour, spelled/spelt etc. (I know this is different because it's how some countries write the words, but just an idea). Thanks for your support! Your name "Tshilongu" is beautiful.

Are these like first names or surnames?

They mostly lean towards first names and middle names. However, it is very possible to see some as a surname, ex. I know of a Kashama family. But you'd also find a single person named Kashama as a first name. Thank you for the question. Enjoy!

Hello! It seems that Tshibuyi doesn't have a meaning. It's simply a person's name. There is, however, a Baluba clan known as Bena Tshibuyi in Kasai Oriental. They are descedants of a known ancestor/forefather. So we identify them as Bena Tshibiyi(la famille Tshibuyi). Thank you much for your question. Best and enjoy learning!
