I play oboe myself and she is right it is perfect i play clarinet , violin nd little of saxophone also but out of the instruments i play thr oboe has that emotional tone which i always get teared up and goosebumps it bring the happy or sad nostalgia emotion to it
"The oboe sound is perfect. Because it has this wonderful soprano, vocal lightness to it and yet theres this piercing anguish. It seems to me that its the only instrument that represents true happiness, elation, but also the sorrow that is always in the movies, and everything else is always expressed by the oboe. Its incredible, it just gets right into you." Beautiful words... she describes the oboe so wonderfully. I love love love the oboe sound. Its just beautiful.
She has an interesting vibrato; very strong and aggressive! Why are they playing the cor anglais solo from Dvorák's "Symphony from the New World?" She's principal oboe. Most cor anglais players have their own positions, or maybe a third oboist. There are so many other orchestral examples they could have used in the background for the oboe. Though it uses the same fingerings as the oboe, the cor anglais is considered, by many, to be a completely different instrument, with its own sound and repertoire.
Wow! I'm just learning the oboe after 25 years of playing the flute. It was time to learn an additional instrument. I'm teaching myself after a life long passion for the oboe since the age of 15. At such a high cost it has taken a long time to realise this ambition. I now play at my local church twice a week. I have a Buffet Crampon oboe and m/s reeds. Thank you and happy playing! :-)
You sound amazing. I play oboe in a little community band just for the fun of it. And it is fun. I noticed you were holding the oboe "out front" as you played in concert. Was this to bring out the sound? Or is this a more normal hold pattern for you. Just curious.
I play oboe in school band, but from my personal knowledge and experience holding your oboe like that really helps with the tuning of your sound, as the oboe is meant to be played a bit out compared to a clarinet ^^
