In this episode Shahriar reviews three mailbag items. There is also a new giveaway! Follow the instruction at the beginning of the video to enter. The reviews are organized at follows:
00:09 - Introduction & Giveaway Details
02:21 - Leo Bodnar Electronic - Fast Pulse Generator
These fast pulse generators are rated to below 25ps! The modules are examined and various microwave and design considerations are explored. The block diagram and functionality of the final output driver is also described in details. The units are used to measure the rise and fall time of various oscilloscopes ranging from 300MHz to 13GHz of analog bandwidth. You can purchase your own fast pulse generator here:
www.leobodnar.com/shop/index.p...
21:11 - SV1AFN GPS Disciplined Oscillator
This GPS disciplined oscillator not only provides frequency synchronization to the GPS clock, it also provides programmable outputs on two independent channels using a Silicon Labs synthesizer IC. The complete module acts as standalone unit which only requires power and GPS antenna connection. The full schematic and block diagram of the synthesizer chipset is presented along with measured output waveform, frequency an phase noise at 1GHz. You can purchase your own GPS DO here:
www.sv1afn.com/gpsdo.html
33:28 - Sain Smart USB-C TS80 Portable Soldering Iron
This soldering iron which supports QC 3.0 is the followup of the very popular TS100 soldering iron. The unit can operate with up to 18W of power from 9V. However, it does not support PD on USB-C. By using the AVHzY USB tester the power bank can be configured to provide any desired output voltage and deliver up to 28W into the TS80 soldering iron. Using this method, the TS80 soldering iron can easily solder large components on a wide ground plane. The TS80 soldering iron can be purchased here:
amzn.to/2r1pyk8
or internationally from here:
www.sainsmart.com/products/to...
The Ankar PD+ 28600mAh power bank can be purchased from here:

They are rare and expensive, and don't exist in compression mounting format I am using for compact layout. If you use good quality adapter the difference would only be a few ps.

Generosity = Shahriar Shahramian. Thank you for sharing: 1) All the knowledge with clear explanations 2) the "Hands-On" practical demonstrations & experiments 3) finding and sharing neat stuff from around the world (i.e. UK & Greece) and 4) One Simple Wish. Your supporting them is great, but exposing this great charity to me is even greater. Thank you again.

Those MBlox GPS modules are great. Using one of those from ebay for like $7 (!) I was able to calibrate my ovenized 53131A counter to LSB in no time (well, a few hours). Simply load an hour (or two) of PPS data into a spreadsheet, clean it up, take the average and there is your error to adjust. Rinse repeat. Now my counter serves as a 10MHz reference (clock output is powered even when the rest of the unit is off)

I live in Ecuador and currently I have a Sencore SC61 I bought second hand before moving. I would really like a digital oscilloscope especially a high end like Keysight. Your videos are very complicated to follow at times and challenging to follow. They are more like a seminar. Before I watch I usually get a cup of coffee. In order to concentrate and try to understand the material you are presenting. I have learned so much. Thank you for your consideration and keep the videos coming... Also, I love watching Alan W2ea and Dave EEVBLOG videos. Thanks again

Shahriar, I don't comment often but the lure of a working scope was an opportunity that I couldn't miss right now. Thank you for all that you do and the videos that you make, I really get a lot out of them. I am self taught with no formal EE education [although I am considering working toward a degree part time] and currently work for a small company designing passive RF attenuators, filters, and equalizers. What I do is not complicated by any means, but there have been times that concepts I picked up from your [and others] videos has helped me decrease my RL by that extra.5dB or so. Yes, I would like that o'scope and would get much use out of it. Best regards, Trent Spencer - KM4YTU

i have enjoyed and learned a lot from your videos, thank you. inspiration from you and a few other electronics repair, review and educational channels has sparked my desire to set up a small electronics lab in my home. i studied electronics in college many years ago and that provided a foundation for my career in telecommunications. i am now retired and wanting to establish a means to raise money for some nonprofit organizations in my area that promote the arts and also help disadvantage women. i believe i can do this by using my lab for repairs. i have a modest fixed retirement income and your oscilloscope giveaway would be a big help in achieving my goal. Keysight really screwed up how they ran "Test to Impress" in Australia, was impossible for me to even enter. After three straight years of impossible to enter contests, and lame promises of doing it properly next year, I no longer trust them as a company. Kinda sad when marketing achieves the opposite of what it intended.

It is really nice how these days people give away all kinds of gear on youtube etc. but unfortunately as a hobbyist I could mostly often even afford those things, so I wonder if it would maybe make sense to give away multiple but lower priced items. Some of the kind of "that would extend my capabilities, but its a bit pricey to buy it just for that". Like second multimeter (or third or so), many hobbyists try to get away with the bare minimum, but being able to cross check with another instrument or measure current and voltage at the same time. Or an edge generator ;) Or maybe some cool project building blocks, like I for myself am having an eye on some fast photomultiplier tubes but again, just to play with them and maybe come up with something usable but possibly break them, it might not be worth it, there are things much higher on my "to-buy" list. Unless of course you want to limit the give away things to your own country only, then that extra cost point becomes moot.
