There are arguments for both sides. However, if I was A ward I would keep doing what he's doing. URL's exclusivity model will be one of the reasons of it's undoing. A ward contracting with them would mess up his business model. URL isn't going to be #1 forever. These "smaller" leagues keep growing in size and talent. And A ward was been making the rounds, diversifying his portfolio and raising his stock. So when these leagues match or become bigger than the url (collectively, they might be now) his elevation compounds that much more. Other rappers will follow the same vein. URL will be forced to bend or break to this freelance model. Also quick thing about diversity in the url. In the high level tsu claims the url to be in. It is very niche almost every round is along the lines of "my tool go blaow," struggle bar, or something about blow. Which is fine to write about, but because of the nature of the material you then get rebuttals like 'this is real life, not rap stories", to the effect of' I'm really like that'. And with that dynamic comes an aggression that blurs the line between real life and bars. Actual grudges, fights, and so much worse. I respect and understand A WARD but he has to get this... When he battles on these small leagues he has everything to gain and nothing to lose.. thus, the 'big names' he battles have nothing to gain and everything to lose. If you wanna stack up a bunch of battles/wins under those pretenses that's fine, BUT don't start shitting on the guys who DO compete in the bigger leagues with higher/ leveled stakes - it is not the same.. in my opinion, THAT is where he goes wrong. You jumping both sides when you say "its some guys in the NBA that cant play overseas" ... either go to their league and find that out or stay in your place and leave them alone.
