The "inner" wholesale fish market at Tsukiji relocated to Toyosu in 2018. The "outer" retail market at Tsukiji remains in operation, selling food and other goods. Toyosu is more sterile compared to Tsukiji. The Toyosu market layout is more restrictive for tourist visitors with dedicated barricaded viewing platforms. Within the Toyosu complex, there are only about 40 food stalls.
