Slowly but steadily, the Moon has been approaching the Earth. It has touched the surface and ripped a deep rift across continents, mountain ranges and oceans. It has come to a halt in the now dried-out Pacific Ocean. Chaos and devastation wrecked the Earth and its inhabitants. That chaos grew greater when the Moon revealed itself to be a "kami" (a Japanese God of old) - the white dragon TSUKUYUMI. Exiled into the night sky eons ago, TSUKUYUMI has been roused by Japanese warriors, who tried to rid themselves of their godly creators. TSUKUYUMI'S time for revenge has finally come...
In the post-apocalyptic world, humankind is on the verge of extinction, whereas animal species mutated under the influence of TSUKUYUMI and grew bigger and stronger than ever. All those different factions are now fighting fiercely for survival, as well as for world domination.
TSUKUYUMI is a no-luck boardgame that demands specific strategic skills of its players. Its particular appeal lies in the clash of multifarious, asymmetrical factions. At the beginning, each player picks one of the five factions. The factions bring their own respective abilities, units and strategies. Therefore the game changes depending on what factions meet on the battlefield.
Values and abilities of the factions still don’t guarantee victory. Numerous test matches have shown: it’s the players who find new combinations and the right moments to use specific faction features, who notice their fellow players’ weaknesses and use them to their own advantages. This way, they shape their faction and bring the creatures and their stories to life.

I have this, played it several times and enjoyed it. But the Kickstarter and production were horrendous, so much so I refused to back a grey fox game after that.

It’s hard to know where to start with the issues on this project. 1. The card quality is poor 2. The punchboard is thick but spongey 3. The mini quality is very average 4. My box split, exactly like yours. Finally yes, there’s an errata pack you’re going to want.

* Also the giraffe has the wrong base shape (not fixed in the errata pack) * The plastic weapon tokens are tiny and practically useless. * The insert holds just the minis and absolutely nothing else.

Indeed, quite possibly the biggest rip-off of a project I ever backed in KS. GFG charged deluxe prices for terribly made product. The fact the game is good is nice...but the whole experience was so unpleasant I still haven't tried to play it.

@@AdamJorgensen Same. I have played the standee version many times. Went all-in on the mini campaign because I loved the game, opened it and was so disappointed I don't know if I'll ever get it to the table.

"No issues"? Did you get the errata pack they did? It's the biggest amount of corrections/errata I've ever seen in a new game thus far. It comes with many cards and several punch boards of the hex tiles, etc. So many errors that needed immediate corrections. If you didn't also get an errata pack with it, hopefully GFG just started putting the corrected material into the boxes already and sent you one of the updated versions.

Hey Alex, First of all you have become my #1 go-to for board game content. I am fond of efficiency, non bias reviews, and true opinions, which include the "I don't want to hear that" statements. You nail it! And I can't believe it has been over 3 years since the first video I saw of yours. My request: BGG top 100 game descriptions. Often, if I haven't heard of a game, I want to know the basics. What mechanics it uses, accurate age range, number count, accurate game length and a game or two it is most similar to for comparisons. I am gobsmacked to find no content creator has gone for this other than dice tower, who, in my opinion, did a very poor job of it. Please take this into consideration. 😊

Believe it or not……I just received an expansion to Tsukuyumi (Sunrise faction and Chronomaster faction) that was a small batch print from Germany. I ordered this but only played Tsukuyumi once….a long time ago. I really need to get this expansion to the table. Hell, I need to play the base game more. The expansion does not have miniatures just standees.

I think they are planning on making a Crowdfunding campaign to release miniatures for the "Sunrise Kingdom" expansion. I am not sure about the Chronomaster one.

Only got to play this a couple times but it has been quite interesting when I did. I’ve never seen a game with factions that feel so fundamentally different from each other.

You can also reshape with a hair dryer. Learned via painting and having a hair dryer ready to be able to put on next layer sooner.

To the topic about "miniatures vs standees": I've played the miniature version a lot, I've played the standee version a couple of times and I've also mixed them up (miniature version with some print-n-play factions in standee format). It is just a matter of taste. The game plays fluendly in both versions and will took the same time. In one version you have to handle the stat mcards (one for each faction in a specific game) and in the other version you have to turn or rearange a couple of standees to have a clear look at them. So it is just a matter of what you prefer: cool looking miniatures (as I do) or some colorfull standees and a lot more space on you shelf ;-)

Did you get this to the table? Keep it in the collection? (if not played yet I definitely don't recommend playing the Sentinels first go, they really modify the way the game plays). I love this game, it's my favourite. The no-luck combat system is so good - the best I've encountered, and the faction asymmetry is epic but really balanced if everyone understands their faction's strengths and plays to them. There is a bit of a requirement to understand your opponents factions to play effectively, but that's the same in Root and this is also worth the effort imo. Also you should log a ticket with GFG to request an errata kit if you don't have one already, there's quite a few cards/tiles that need replacing. It took them literally 12 months from my request to send me mine in Australia, hopefully yours comes faster. I would happily watch a playthrough of this, just sayin' ;)

Great game. The standee version is better though. The miniature version is just too clunky and makes it more time consuming to see the state of the board. (Standee version has unit stats on the standee) Also takes up much more table and shelf space. (not an issue for me but would be for others.)

I don't really agree with the readability aspect, it's not uncommon that you need to constantly manipulate the standees to properly see what units are on the field with the standee version before making decisions. I find that the mini version when they are painted is more immediate with the calculation process thanks to the cheat sheets they have included. I'd still recommend the standee version instead because it gets content faster and gfg really dropped the ball on this one overall which doesn't inspire confidence.

Funny story. I went to a specialty store and made some freshly made almond butter. It was delicious. I brought a jar of it on the plane to eat as a snack. They confiscated it and said it was a liquid. I was devastated. Sorry to hear about Alex’s knife.
