My heart aches coming back to this. I remember this day very vividly. The overwhelming force of nature, the devastation, the shock, the pain... It's so heartbreaking. It's inspiring how all of Japan came together, and even the world to lend aid and rebuild. 10+ years on, I'll never forget this moment.
After more than a decade my heart still aches watching these tragic scenes , all my condolences and love to Japanese people and may this never happen again , Love you all! Huge hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷
Ive watched alot of these videos and every time I think the Japanese people were incredibly brave. They went thru so much that day but they handled it admirably.
As someone who lived in Japan at this point in time, these scenes are still incredibly hard to watch. What an absolutely catastrophic event, including the aftermath it's truly one of the worst periods of my life.
Hard to fathom what goes through someone's mind to focus on recording the flood rather than anticipate the horrific danger they are in. Did these people end up trapped in this building for an extended period? Did they contemplate the water damaging or destroying the building they were in? Were they trapped all along with no chance to go anywhere? Even if so it is still hard to imagine recording the event rather than focus on survival.
You cant do much in this situation. They were aware before hand, chose a sturdy building and waited. This "survival" thing you describe is called "panic" and Japan doesn't panic
I just watched a few of these longer videos. I was in Germany back then and only saw it on the news - you’d only see the aftermath or the more ‘dramatic’ moments of the big waves crashing over the embankments. It’s crazy to see the longer videos and how slowly the water crept up. I’m glad Ishikawa did not suffer the same fate.
I've watched this video a half dozen times and 10 years later I am still stunned speechless the moment the surge spills over the seawall like an overflowing bathtub. The magnitude of the force of nature has to be seen but still cannot be believed. How Japan has tried to rebuild ten years on, remains a compelling story.
Those boats are being tossed about like hot wheels in a bathtub. People always say you’d want to be on a boat during a tsunami, but this video is saying otherwise.
Yeah, the water level rose at least 15 feet in about 30 seconds - that was wild. What the hell were people doing on casual bike rides when there are warning sirens going off? Buncha cars driving on that road too. Wtf? Those two on bikes were headed straight into the mouth of the beast -- no way they got out of that mess. r.i.p.
My heart breaks for the Japanese people who had to endure that moment in time...or lost their life because of it. So tragic. And I can't help to wonder what became of the two bicycle riders who were riding the path just before the huge wave overtook the wall. It is a story that I probably will never know. I wish Japan never again experiences something like this ever again!
That is one of the most horrific videos I have ever seen. The sheer power of mother nature is so underestimated. That person that was riding the bike just sends chills up my spine. They didn't have a chance of getting away. 😢.
