I was torn between this and a spheros for durable light surf/fluke rod. This video made up my mind. I also just bought a tsunami slow pitch rod that looks like an ultra light trout rod, but it's a MH and has some serious backbone while weighing only 7 ounces!! Great company with am even better warranty policy and definitely a hidden gem

Just ordered one.. I'm not much of a fisherman, and I'm wheelchair bound. Hopefully, paired up with my madkatz rod, it ends up being a beast of a setup.

I’m betting this will last you a really long time!!! I’ve found these reels to be over the top rugged. I’m sorry to hear about your wheelchair. I pray you’re finding ways to overcome and prosper. I spent some time in a wheelchair after a bad motorcycle wreck. It’s definitely challenging. I’m so glad to hear you’re getting out on the water though. Take care and God bless you friend!!

The biggest issue with the Shield seems to be the pot metal main gear. Tackle Advisors did a great review on the best $100 spinning reel.

i have the 3000. this reel is a tank at any price. nice finish,really big carbon drag washers, o rings all over and berings in key places. once those o rings soften up its as smooth as butter. the bad, if you do your own maintainence at the end of season you will find it very hard to take off side plate with provided tool and so will anybody you hand it to.

This reel was selling under the ACE brand from China long before it was sold by Tsunami. I believe it may have carried other brand names as well. The color scheme on the ACE branded reels was different but the basic reel was the same. It's almost impossible to find it new branded ACE now that Tsunami sells it. That's not to say it's a bad reel by any means. It's actually a great reel for the price.

I have been away from my kayak fishing a few years now. Getting back into soon and want to gear back up with some new gear. Saw this one advertised on a Facebook page. What the model number you are holding in your hand? Or which exact reel would you recommend I try?
@carolinakayakadventures270

Jason Andrews I personally use 3000 series reels mostly for flounder, trout, and drum. This particular reel has proven to me that it can absolutely handle the saltwater abuse they get on a kayak. I feel like kayak fishing in the saltwater is one of the most harsh environments on reels. I can tell you that this reel has proven itself to me. If you want to buy a reel that you can be confident in, this is a great purchase. Hope this helps.
@gigemags1991
@gigemags1991 6 лет назад
Thanks again. You totally right about the abuse a rod and reel take while kayak fishing. You are closer to the water than any boat. The reel will see or touch salt water while fishing. I have always been on the cheap side of buying reels. Really I would just buy a $45 reel and it would just last the season. When I saw this for $100, I knew I just have to try one.

i bought the shield 2500 and it is a lot of reel for it's price.lil' stiff at first because of the o rings in key places but softens up soon. i don't see where they skimped on quality to get it down to $100.

I have a question I fish at the beaches tons of waves what I want to know about Sand getting on top or in the drag screw..meaning does sand tend to get stuck in the ridges of the drag....(top where you tighten your dragscrew knob)Shimano spheros from all the review never has that issue to to the design of the "gasket"around the rim of the drag screw knob. With every reel I owned all have that problem of tiny pebbles getting past that particular part and once it does....the drag tense to slip and grab...its an easy fix just unscrew the drag knob spray water good as new...but the Tsunami shield let me know plz.

MyFishing Addictions I’ve never had that problem with this reel. I don’t fish in the surf that much but I do some rough kayak fishing in the saltwater. I have a ton of confidence in this reel. I believe this is gonna hold up to whatever you put it through. I’ve never had any problems with sand getting behind the drag with this reel. I hope this helps.

@carolinakayakadventures270
@carolinakayakadventures270 5 лет назад
Brandon Skipper man I would certainly look at the 4000. That reel has plenty of line capacity and will hold up against anything you run across for sure. Rod selection I would go with a 7-0 or 7-6 Penn Battalion, or TFO, or something along those lines in a medium to medium-heavy with fast action. That’s my personal preference.
