About 10-12 years ago I watched a video about a British girl who was on school break and spending it with her family on the beach. Suddenly she saw the ocean recede. She starting screaming to her family and everyone around them to get to higher ground, to run up into the mountains. She told her family that she had studied tsunamis in school just before the school break. She was just a little girl but she saved herself, her family and a lot of others, too!
Jesus, Almighty God 🙏 loves ❤ you more than you could possibly comprehend! He died for your sins, my sins and the sins of the world. Jesus stands with His arms opened wide, hoping and willing to heal, forgive, cleanse, strengthen and purify us. He is waiting to receive you with all love! He deeply desires a personal relationship with each and every one of us! RELATIONSHIP NOT RELIGION! Draw near to God and He will draw near to you, there is no repentance in the grave: There is no conversion after the last breath is drawn. Now is the time to believe in Christ and to lay hold of eternal life (J C Ryle). God has revealed Himself to us in the glory of creation, in the perfection of the written word and in personal experience of all who seek Him. Prayer 🙏 is giving our attention to God in a two-way Spiritual relationship where we talk to God and also listen to Him, you can pray 🙏 to God, through Jesus in the privacy of your own home (pray from your heart). God speaks to your heart because He loves you and wants to interact with you. So often we don't wait for God to speak after we've finished laying down our requests. Sadly, we don't watch for God to act in our lives. Did you know that God speaks to us through the Bible? The Holy scriptures Old and New Testaments, are the written Word of God, given by divine inspiration through holy men of God who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. The gift of the Holy Spirit is one of God's greatest gifts to us. Through the Holy Spirit we may know that God lives and that Jesus is the Christ! Scripture is always the voice of God in the general sense that God inspired the words of Scripture (2 Tim 3:16). God can also speak specifically to us through the Bible, by drawing a particular passage to our attention because the Word of God is living and active (Heb 4:12). We can say that it is God's primary way of speaking to us. Any other communication must be based and tested by what is taught in Scripture. The Holy Bible is God's guide for us, so we can reach Him, the only true living God and hear back from Him! Jesus is returning in the not so distant future!
@@cryscris It was not a movie. After so long I can't totally remember but I think it was a show like 60 minutes or Dateline. The girl was interviewed on the show. It was the big tsunami in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, etc. A little research on Google will probably find it. So sorry I can't remember more.
I'm from South Africa. My husband and I were on our honeymoon on Koh PhiPhi, and left the island on December 24th to go to Koh Samui. Initially, we had booked to visit Koh Samui first and spend 4 days from Christmas Eve on Koh Phi Phi which would have meant we'd have been there when the tsunami hit. Changing our plans saved our lives.
Thank you for this documentary. At this time I lived in Bangkok, I went to Phuket and volunteered for a week after helping in hospitals in Bangkok for a few days. The Thai people were extraordinary helping foreigners while their own lives were in tatters🙏
People truly are amazing. To go through this hell but then pulling up your bootstraps and helping complete strangers to survive. Heroes. This was a really well made doc.
Could not agree more ..and I was gonna say that no human being with a soul isn't brought to tears especially the woman who is haunted by not putting her arm out to save someone even though she would have very likely died. This is exactly what you hear from war veterans they never forget or move on its always there with them forever
The part of the story about elephants breaking chains and running to the hills is so impressive. The guide said they saved his life. Yet, while he is talking about it, behind him, many of these animals still chained and slaved into tourists attractions. Soooo, sooo sad. Let innocent animals be!
Then they used the poor Elephants to move debris and recover bodies , they should get the Honorable Elephant Citation awards , they were smarter than the people who stood around gawking at the incoming wave 🌊
I used to dislike Circuses because of how the Elephants and Big Cats were treated, right when the Circuses went to Vegas I saw a PT Barnum's and Bailey's Train go by , the freight doors were open , with hardly any straw on the deck the poor dehydrated , dejected Dumbo's at the door in the Rain , as if they were saying goodbye to Wilmington CA for the last time , I cried my heart out , all these beautiful ones given by the Gods to be our Companions , will soon be extinct, I hope my stay on this Planet will be over.
It's tourist fault. If we don't hire them, there will be no more animal abuse. Such a wonderful animal in horrible chains, it broke my heart. Not the rich tourists
Thank you. This is the first full-length documentary I've seen about these disasters. So gigantic that it's difficult to grasp just how great a catastrophe it was and the courage of people caught in it. You tell the story very well, and I thank you for the closed captions. They are a great help.
You should watch the documentary interviewing the stories of survivors & actual home videos they took. I think it’s on RU-vid in multiple parts. Warning: it’s really hard to watch.

This is an amazing documentary, detailing so many of the individuals who were actually able to survive. It also details the awful destruction and indivudual loss of life. I applaud the people who either stayed or come back regularly to assist the locals. That really moved me.
RIP
Kudos to the people who stayed behind to help. Sadly, tourists lost family & friends. The local people lost not only their families & friends, but also their entire homes, livelihoods, businesses, communities, everything. Bravo to those tourists who showed sensitivity & concern for the local population.👏🏻
i'm sure ALL the tourists felt sensitivity and concern for the local population.. Not to take anything away from those who were left healthy and strong -- like surfers and paramedics -- and were able to get away from their everyday lives to stay and help. Which is not to say the children and the elderly and the injured and the parents and the grieving tourists with responsibilities back home did not feel sensitivity and concern for the locals. In a situation like that if you cannot contribute way way more than you are sucking out of a broken system it's better to get out of the way and certainly every embassy told every one of their citizens to do just that. Bravo too to those who had to leave without their children or their legs or their sanity in tact!
I was pregnant with my son when this happened. My first , I watched this on TV and has nightmares for weeks!! Just hearing about dead bodies and corpses . People have to work together. Not be selfish and think about only yourself. But hey if you’re a chicken and want to run away. Easier said than done.
I remember this tragic event that left the world stunned. Thank you for for producing this important documentary. Our world needs to slow and be grateful, kind and helpful to one another.
I agree. Yet thousands of safe college students with their bellies full - are ungrateful about the blessings of life and are protesting all over campuses in the USA and other parts of the World. One day they may face such tragedies - and all of their complaining will be rendered useless and pointless.
The fact that the elephants could not see the ocean and freaked out to the point of tears and breaking chains out of sheer instinct of looming danger is proof we are all born from mother Earth and I strongly believe we should protect our planet. We will forever be at her mercy.
It's so hard to believe that this coming December 26th, it will have been 20 years since this happened. Such strong, courageous people who survived this.
Our oldest friends survived, just. One turned 91 two weeks ago and his wife turns 90 in 10 day time. They still talk about the two young Americans who physically ripped up bolted down benches to make a bridge for the people stranded on the rooftop of the low building that they had run to. They had to crawl along those benches to get access to a balcony of the taller building next door. They were on the beachfront and locals suddenly started calling out to everyone to run to safety. They were injured getting to the first building and making their way to the rooftop as water engulfed them. They said that the fear in the hectic moments reaching safety was bad but watching the ongoing devastation and aftermath would haunt them forever.
@@arribaficationwineho32 I am not sure as to the exact amount of time, as my husband and I were visiting his family in the UK. They decided to accompany their son and his teenage children to Thailand at the last minute and had to secure accommodation in a different hotel to their son and his family. They were just enjoying a stroll along the beach and whilst the rest of the family were doing their own thing at the time of the tsunami, but after the death and chaos, managed to reunite up in the hills and were evacuated to Singapore where they stayed in a hotel until getting flights back to Australia. My friend suffered a lot of cuts and abrasions to her legs from debris in the water but counted themselves lucky to have survived. Her husband had travelled overseas for business but it was her first ever international holiday and her last one. They have been everything to each other for 70 years and we celebrated her 90th birthday a couple of weeks ago with 5 generation (first great great grand baby) in attendance.
Neka počivaju u božijem miru i blagoslovu . Respekt !❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ .
There was a Swedish family whose toddler son was saved floating on a regular wave, found hours after the tsunami. His parents did not survive, but by God's might, wherein the family of this couple posted pics of the child and parents. The young toddler was recognized and repatriated to his aunt and uncle in Sweden. Amazing story. Great documentary. Very horrible event. Godspeed all. RIP.
Thank you for the opportunity to watch this excellent and tragic documentary. I cry for those who died, those survivors whose family members died, the incredible generosity of survivors who stayed behind to help and those who continue to feel guilt for having survived . I praise God for all of their lives.
"what surprises me is the amount of people who lack any sense of danger, and are literally looking at it and like. Wow, that looks awesome." == Who knows you maybe one of them just stand and watch in awe. Remember, only locals ran?
They would have had to be educated in Earth sciences to understand what a Tsunami looks like in the beginning. I learned about all of this in Geology class. I know better than to run to the beach when the water disappears like that because I've been taught!
Well... as far as I know it was the worst Tsunami katastrophe in history - nothing like that had happened before. Yes - there were other tsunamis but not so well known all over the world. Now children are taught about it but not 20 years ago.
Agreed. If a human narrator was not affordable, as can happen, please let this company earn enough to add for next time. This might be an insurmountable challenge right now, and I do not at all disparage the fine presentation or quality of research and production of this documentary. I applaud all involved in bringing it to us.
To be fair, the original French audio is actually a human speaking, other languages are generated by AI (and I don't know about this particular video but I've seen this bad AI narration generated by RU-vid itself for other content). The documentary is exceedingly great in its human narration, and yes, having the same excellency in other languages would be nice as well. But it is not English in the original, so the bad artificial narration is not the creators' doing.
Reportage exceptionnel !

My niece had been visiting in Thailand. She gad just boarded a plane to come back to the US. The plane was in the air just minutes before the tsunami hit. We really gave thanks that Christmas
Emouvant reportage !

The vacationers were just being themselves. Had they known about the tsunami they would have been more self responsible. They are being cared for now.
Such a sad story. I live in New York and after a vacation trip to Hawaii in 1987, I became aware of the Tsunami Evaluation Routes and signs of what to watch for in the ocean. I always found it odd that I knew that water withdrawing back toward the sea was a sign of tsunami yet they didn't. May all those lost RIP and may the survivors no longer live with the guilt that they didn't die. It seems so many survivors found a way to help and "pay it forward". Thank you for sharing the story of this tragedy.
This whole disaster is hard to wrap your head around, but to hear that 2 survivors die from snake bites in the night is just maddening. They were so close to holding onto the rest of their lives. Mother nature is a beautiful beast.
Those elephants that were trumpeting and crying were so upset even though they didn't know what was happening is absolutely amazing!! Animals have amazing instincts! 👏 ❤
> @NursePamS Seems to me the elephants DID know what was happening - the extraordinary reaction they had demonstrated that clearly! I learned when I was a kid that animals have instincts that are superior to those of a human, and we are wise to pay attention to them and the sounds going on around us. I find it amazing that a human could reach adulthood before they realize that.
@@ofthedifferenceNo, they did not know a tsunami was about to hit, they just knew something terrible was about to happen.....!! Elephants can feel the vibrations and infrasounds that humans can't hear, caused by earthquakes....!! Since a tsunami was on it's way then those vibrations would have been something so strong and fierce, which those elephant's had probably never felt them so strongly is the reason they were terrified and justifiably so.....!! What's pathetic is how that man talked about the elephants saving his life that day and yet right there behind and beside him are elephant's, just standing there chained up exactly like they were the day the tsunami hit, the day they saved his life.....!! If he was truly grateful then he would have opened a sanctuary for elephant's instead of trying to profit from them after what he experienced.....!!
That's where you're wrong saying they don't know what's going to happen no they do know they know far away better than what we do you know when they say listen to your gut instinct and trust it the animals are very tune to Nature so anything that's off they're going to sense it they're going to know what to do because they they know already it's in their built into their DNA how to handle the situations so when they know the Calm before the storm and they're trying to get away and you're being a jerk about it as these elephant tourists abusers that abused the elephants are they don't care about the offense they want them to keep them quiet keep them in check so the fact that they are so full of crap that they don't even pay attention to these outfits are breaking their change for a reason they're running away for a reason because these animals know to get to Higher Ground these animals automatically know and they're good instinct to get to Higher Ground well as humans are like well let's just take pictures let's try to get these animals settled and calm down no do not calm them down get the hell out of there and listen to the animals but that's the problem with people they say animals don't know what's about to happen no they do we just had a tornado hit my neighborhood area and it's interesting because every one of my neighbor's pets did the same thing the Quan before the storm we had no knowledge that there was going to be a tornado hitting our neighborhood area we had no Sirens going off we were told there's only going to be a civil weather storm that was it but our animals were misbehaving we didn't tell him to settle down we didn't try to get them under control we found what they wanted to do they wanted to go to the basement and by the moment we all got down to our basements in my neighborhood that tornado hit so they knew what was about to happen above us they knew and they reacted and they hope to God that we were going to follow them because they're God's given angels to us on this planet the animals are and we were safe thanks to them unfortunately those who did not trust the Instinct of their animals and just stayed up there because there's no fires going off guess what they die
J'essaie de me pardonner, je me pardonne.
I remember this on the news in the US. The images were terrifying. Even grown, it was the first time I’d ever heard of the word “Tsunami”. A wonderful documentary.
I'll never understand this, even as a child I was always told by my parents about tidal waves(aka tsunami) . In South Africa we don't get Tsunami's but i was always told by my mother and father that if the sea goes back you must run to higher ground. this was in the 80s and 90s years before it happened. I don't know how people don't know such basic facts
@@hihosh1 Let me help you understand. I was raised at the top of Texas AWAY from any oceans. I never even saw one until in my 30’s. All we had were some lakes to ski and fish in. Why would my parents sit me down and explain how ocean tides work? 🙄

I can't even imagine. That lady who made a comment about the little boy should not blame herself. No one can say what they would or could do in her situation. It was a bad day for all who was there who saw things no one should ever see. My heart goes out to all who was affected by this
I agree with you. I pray that she seeks counseling with someone trained to counsel trauma survivors. The lady needs to know that her mind and body were in a state of shock...she had been fighting for her life! She probably had a literal split second to react to seeing the child and it was simply not enough time for her brain to process what she was seeing and then, he was gone! It is not her fault.
I agree, but she will always blame herself even though she is not to blame. Like she said until her last breath, that boy's image will remain in her mind. My heart hurts for her. It is not her fault.
but you HAVE to blame yourself when a child asks for help because his life's in danger, and you don't lift a finger, out of fear, even though yer sitting pretty and in a POSITION to help which is why the baby is reaching for ya. She's burning in hell, right now, so it would've been worth the effort.. to the little boy and for her soul.
This documentary was very informative and well done. It’s 2024 and I’m sat here with tears. You think it always happens to someone else but this shows how your life (if you’re lucky ) can change in minutes. RIP to all the victims and I pray that those who were witnesses and survived find peace.
Oh and sadly, just like my family sadly, are not resting in peace but eternal torment, we can pray and ask God for a miracle, but if we live wickedly here we won't like our final destination, thankfully the children are not suffering, but are with the Heavenly Father, but a lot of adults are not
@@gulkaratas4743God speed may you find beauty in life and find the purpose you where spared for I personally simply can't even begin to grasp what something like that would be like
Very powerful. I have watch many videos about this tragic disaster, but this one filled a void that they all had. To watch those that stayed behind to help organize and rebuild left me with a swollen heart of joy and encouragement. Bless those that lost their lives and bless the survivors.
@@PneumaNoose can you explain how it’s done with AI ? - I don’t understand - genuine question. Even if you can give me a quick explanation how it can be done with AI? I must be getting old ! Kind regards, Tom.
This film was not only comprehensive in its facts and coverage, it was also made with great sensitivity. It was marvellous to see the survivors staying and helping the people, following that awful disaster. Very thought provoking and moving.
I was at Disney in Florida when this happened. I didn’t get to see how tragic it really was until I got home. It was and still is one of the most horrific things I’ve ever seen in my life.
I was at my father's on the beach on The south West corner of Western Australia. We were lucky it didn't come down here. The place is at 0 Sea level, wouldn't have stood a chance.
What do people learn in school? I'm from Canada and I knew all about tsunamis even as a kid, that they sometimes come after earthquakes, that the water will recede etc. Theses people grew up right by the ocean, and none of the natives knew what a tsunami was, not even when it was obviously coming? If only a few people knew they could've warned the rest, word would have spread, so obviously nobody did. Really amazing.
This documentary has touched all the people who watched it , a lot of amazing, brave people in the world and I think a lot of them were in this documentary ❤❤❤
Watching this now in 2024, it brought back tears to me and the realization that the house we were trying to sell in the UK, having fallen through, potentially saved our lives! Had we sold by mid December, we were headed to Phuket for our holiday, then a new life in Thailand! There were 16 in the chain of house sales and since it broke, we could not go to Thailand, how fortunate for us! It was nearly a year later we finally sold and now live here in the North East of Thailand! Since this time, I have heard from many people and their experiences and how chance decisions have saved their lives too! I hope the pain for all survivors is now at a level where you can cope, it was a very sad experience for all who have been emotionally affected in this catastrophe of near 20 years ago! Wishing all who read this peace, love and rest!
