Tsunami2 decoders have TONs of sounds and features for your model trains. This is great because you can match your decoder to almost any model and make your train run really realistically, but it can be a bit daunting if you are new to Tsunami2 or DCC in general. In this video, George has just finished installing one of our new Tsunami2 8 Function TSU-21PNEM8 decoders into an InterMountain Tier 4. Now he walks you through the process of how he sets up all of his decoders for the trains on his personal layout. For each features he talks about how the feature works, what CVs he changes for it, the values he chooses and why. This is an in depth video and is not a quick watch, but it is packed full of information that will help you get more out of your Tsunami2 decoders and your model train operation sessions in general!
He doesn't go into every feature that Tsunami2 has to offer, but he overviews several big ones that you will want to use most often including:
Sound Selection: Prime mover, airhorn, bells, air compressors and more
Setting up your lighting effects, brightness registers, and function mapping
-Momentum and Braking features and operation
Dynamic Digital Exhaust (DDE) Set up and operation
Function Mapping: moving features to the buttons you want to control them
-7-Band Equalizer: adjust this to maximize your speaker capabilities and improve your locomotive sound
Reverb & Echo settings to add some atmosphere to your layout

Geroge, this is probably the most comprehensive tutorial on programing CV's I've ever seen. I'm saving this video for reference down the road. I need to watch it about 10 more times. Thank you; this is why I'm buying nothing but Soundtraxx!

I know why I selected Soundtraxx for the decoders to use in my fleet, all then things you can do with them. Once you get your function mapping set up, it becomes easier to run. One question I have is about headlights. Is there a way when you are running forward and your ditch lights are on FX3, when you use F7 to dim your headlight, can it turn off the ditchlights (FX3)? That is how the headlight switch is set up on a real locomotive. You have off, dim, bright without ditchlights, and bright with ditchlights. I would just like to skip the bright without ditchlights. I am going to watch this a couple more times to mess with all the different setting. George you are an encyclopedia of info, and I see why Soundtraxx has you on the payroll. Keep up the great work!

Unfortunately, no. You will have to make the extra button press. You may also be interested in using a ProtoThrottle which has knobs to control this using internal F# command settings for this exact scenario. The Ditch Lights are just ditch lights on/off. No affiliation with the F7 Dimmer command. I hope this helps.

Hey George very helpful video!! I followed your setup of DDE and braking. I have two gp38s ,one is a Athearn genesis factory tsu2 and second has a me installed tsu2. The one i did took all the cv's great and fine,with the Athearn one takes all the cv's but cv117. Any value other than 0 and engine will not move . Are the factory one's different? I'am doing something wrong? Thanks Jeff..
@SoundtraxxDCC
@SoundtraxxDCC 4 года назад
Some of the CV default values in aftermarket decoders are different than aftermarket Tsunami2, but all of the CVs are the same and work the same. You need to disable the auto brake set in CV 1.403. Athearn enables this when stopped so when the loco starts to move, you’ll hear the brake release. But if you enable a non-zero value in CV117, then this sets the brakes to actually operate. So the brakes will not release till the loco starts to move. But the brakes are now holding it still until the brakes are released. So, set CV 1.403 to 0 and it’ll be happy again.
