Stayed at Tsuta Onsen Ryokan, a famous hot spring in Minami Hakkoda, Aomori JAPAN.
Formerly an inn of the Japan Association of Secluded Hot Spring Inns. Records show that there was a bathhouse in the Heian period, and its history spans a thousand years. Thanks to the activities of the writer Omachi Keigetsu, Lake Towada and Oirase Gorge became famous as scenic spots, and as a result, it became known throughout Japan as a famous hot spring. The main building, which is over 100 years old, has been beautifully renovated while retaining its history and tradition, and combines the dignity of history with comfort.
The hot spring, which springs out from the source, is simply amazing. Kyuan no Yu, decorated with poems by Omachi Keigetsu, and Senkyo no Yu, a 12-meter-tall building where you can enjoy the sound of the spring. And even the private hot spring, all springs out from the source, so it is one of the few precious inns in Japan where you can enjoy freshly made hot springs that have not been exposed to air.
In the subdued lighting, the hot springs are extremely relaxing, as you enjoy the moment when the water bubbles are born and the sound of them as you bathe, and I ended up bathing in them many times.
There is a cold bath next to the hot bath, so sauna lovers will surely enjoy it.
Tsuta Onsen is also famous as the hot spring that the late Antonio Inoki who is the most famous professional wrestler loved with his wife. In his later years, he built a grave on the grounds of Tsuta Onsen. It is impossible to visit during the winter due to snow, but I hope to return in a season without snow.

I drove past here from hoshino oirase keiryu to Sukayu. It looked so charming and I could tell there was a lake nearby. Thanks for showing how the interior looks like!

Wow, you also visited Aomori Oirase area. This ryokan is one of the most oldest one in that region and hope you have chance to stay there. Its really calm and great mood which you like old Japanese ryokan.

This ryokan looks wonderful and very traditional, and the kaiseki cuisine looks so tasty. I just discovered your channel, and I enjoy your relaxed style, with only music and subtitles. Is the ryokan also accesible by public transport ?

Hi, Many thanks for your comment and glad to hear you are enjoying it. My video style is bit different with others who introduce inns in details. I just try to share how beautiful for each inns like photobooks. Most of ryokans you can access by public transport because some people cannot drive to there. Tsuta Onsen ryokan can arrange free shuttle from station, you can check their website. tsutaonsen.com/en/

@@Documentrip2 Thats great to know (about the shuttle service), thank you. My list of places I wish to visit in Japan gets longer and longer..... I will spend 4 weeks in Tohoku next March, but after that, I will need at least 3 more trips to Japan, to visit all the places I want to visit there.

I am sure you would have a blast. I did a 2 weeks self drive earlier this year in April for the Sakura, wisteria, roses, etc. without the flowers to detour, 3 weeks would be plenty sufficient. If you can try to stay in Koyo (old Klin) in kaminoyama onsen and takaragawa onsenkaku in minamikami. This channel has plenty of other great ryokan recommendations too.

@@joshuatan942 I totally agree, this is a great channel and almost all the ryokan recommendations I have watched so far, look amazing. For our trip in March 2025, I have already booked two ryokans, for two nights each (we prefer to stay 2 nights, instead of just one, to get more of the experience). More is not doable in 4 weeks, because they are not cheap, and there are so many other places to visit. Definitely a luxury "problem" ;-).
