TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 3 Review - The Final Verdict

You’ll absolutely feel the punch of speed a superbike will grant you in this virtual high-speed affair just as hard as you’ll feel the pain of consistently eating the pavement at every turn.
This visceral and dicey racing gauntlet absolutely demonstrates why the real-world event is known for being so remarkably dangerous in the realm of motorsports. But a little bit of grit and patience may unlock the true potential of TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 3 for any committed player.

Motorcycle racing has always been an impressive sport to me. It's amazing how focused and reactive riders are on these powerful bikes. One thing that I always think about it when playing racing games with markers, is how the real life riders don't have them. I imagine that present riders practice virtually, but past riders must've really had a challenge memorizing the courses. Great review and video by the way.

I love this game! Once you learn the course it feels great riding around, respecting the bike and the track. I do agree that it is very buggy sometimes with texture pop-ins and sound issues, but I've been having a great time doing 2-3 laps per day for the last 3 months.

😅it needs to have an easier entry level for beginners to encourage them to stick with the game .by concentrating solely on the tt cicuit they need to expand vastly on the bike and rider and class options yes they will update for 2023 riders but historic bikes and riders would greatly enhance the game for tt enthusiats .ride on 2 had some historic riders and bike combinations.without this this game is seriously limiting its long term playability.if your interest is not the tt then you will definitely choose other bike games first .add on historic bike and rider combinations are a must for this game

People saying this is a bad game are clearly not that good at it, all the TT riders use these games to learn the track and find it a great way to sus things out…leave the gears in auto and you can still change them if coming into a corner too fast and if it’s not quick enough to change up then just do it yourself…slow down at correct times and it’s easy to get 125-128mph average speed on a 4 lap mountain course race…it’s fun and give you instant speed

Okay since everyone in this comment section seems to enjoy trashing this game. I’m gonna go ahead and be the opposition. It’s good. Really good. Did TT1 have Sidecars? Yes. Did TT2 have tracks in other countries? Yes. But do either of those games give you bikes that feel like the multiple hundred pound monsters? No. Do either of those games let you run across the Isle of Man at your leisure? No. While this game currently has a few flaws, I’ve noticed that bugs are being fixed. It’s a good game. It’s not a bike rpg like Ride. But that’s okay. It knows what it is. Challenging but fun

I just recieved this game and burning around mostly freeroam and doing a race now. This is certainly a very good motorcycle game. I dont believe the developers are given resources like AAA+ game developers and despite that they fashioned something very magical: The TT Isle of Man, Ride on the Edge 3! I put 97,000km on a zx6r in 3 1/2 years for what it's worth. I selected 'realistic' mode in TT3 and it's just like what i know riding to be. Too, i was playing Ride 4 for the first time, yestarday, i didnt bother check to see the settings - regardless, i like TT3 physics. What some people critique about the game is true. And, the physics of the bike is excellent! And, it is a thrill. If you ride, and respect the TT, this you need.
@thewelder3538
@thewelder3538 Год назад
Okay, now you have the game, ride to some water and take a look. Now ride around now on freeroam and watch all the objects popping in, not even distant objects either. My comment that you took so much offence to, never really focused on how accurate a sim/arcade racer it was. It was mainly aimed at the graphical fidelity which wasn't so much of an issue in RotE 2, but it does affect the experience. Now do you see what I was talking about?

"I put 97,000km on a zx6r in 3 1/2 years for what it's worth" is impressive compadre ... I get it! This game definitely feeds into the adrenaline rush of actual riders of performance bikes. I rode the first KZ super bikes of the late 70s - early 80s (last one was GPZ 750 before it was called Ninja) I have well over 2k miles in 20 years of "spirited" riding. I've played #1 with the controller and the stick was grueling, I got a wheel to work (no FF) and the handling is MUCH better. Just installed #2 after having it a while and gonna give it a go with the wheel (thinking of clamping some hand grips on it for shits and giggles, yea no counter steer but ...) Any improvements worth mentioning from #1 and #2? Good to hear feedback from actual riders. 👍 It's a shame nobody makes a proper motorcycle controller/handlebar setup (that doesn't cost as much as a bike)

This is literally one of the worst reviews of a game I've ever sat through. Firstly of all, you make it sound like this was a one-of-a-kind game, rather than ACTUALLY the THIRD game of the TT Isle Of Man: Ride on the Edge series. The review would probably have been a LOT better if you'd compared it against its predecessor. What's improved since the last game, what's not as good etc, rather than trying to make it stand on its own. Most of the people playing this game will more than likely already have Ride on the Edge 2 and will want to know what, if any, benefit they will have by buying this new release. The reality is, as an arcade racer and really, that's what the TT Isle Of Man: Ride on the Edge series is all about, it's just terrible what they've done to this game. Now I loved Ride on the Edge 2, the illusion of speed, the sound of the trees and buildings rushing by, pleasant graphics and stable framerate. This game isn't Ride, it's more arcade than simulation focused and that's what made it fun. With this monstrosity however, gone are those lovely rushing trees and houses sounds, replaced by a soundtrack that makes you think you're playing Ridge Racer from 1994. Then there's not just "a bit of pop-in", there's A LOT of pop-in. You can see everything in the distance just appearing and textures being applied to walls and backgrounds and we're not talking about things a long way away, but closer objects too. The framerate can become choppy in slow sections of a race, which is probably why the draw distance is so close in order to keep the frame rate up. Don't get me wrong, the graphics are certainly way more realistic than Ride on the Edge 2, but wow, does the framerate suffer for it. The background environment textures are just lifeless and the water is just laughable as a simple scrolling texture. They've turned a visual/audio enjoyable experience from Ride on the Edge 2, into one that you think initially looks nicer, right before you notice and cannot ignore all the popping-in objects and rubbish textures in places. What a way to drop the ball when you are up against other bike games like Ride.
@S3RAVA3LM
@S3RAVA3LM Год назад
What do you mean " terrible what they've done to this game" ? Yorkshirepud says contrary to what you input here. In fact states that they've done sooo much better with tt isle man 3 compared to the 2nd.
@thewelder3538
@thewelder3538 Год назад
@@S3RAVA3LM It doesn't matter who said what, just look at the reviews of the people who have bought the game. You will then see what I am saying is entirely reflected in what everyone else is saying too. Ride on the Edge 2 has a MUCH higher rating than Ride on the Edge 3. Although they've enhanced the look of the graphics, the pop-in objects and draw distance totally ruin the visual experience. Losing the audio that enhanced the experience of speed also made the game worse. Remember, this is an arcade racer, not a simulation like Ride. So it really doesn't matter if you think Ride on the Edge 3 is better, objectively the majority of people don't agree with you.
@S3RAVA3LM
@S3RAVA3LM Год назад
@thewelder3538 Actually it does matter - if you've read Plato, you would know what he elucidated concerning 'democracy'. The higher vote count, majority, has never been a veritable of any kind or criterion. In fact there's a saying: "what's true isn't popular and what's popular isn't true". Your code or logic that you live by is ridiculous and says everything about you. The fact remains, that somebody here in the discussions has said contrary to what you believe. And it doesn't matter if the majority is going the wrong direction, doesn't make it right. I ordered it, and I will see.
@thewelder3538
@thewelder3538 Год назад
@@S3RAVA3LM Of course I understand that the majority is not always right, but it's simple statistics. If you're trying to say that you don't look at the reviews for an item before buying it on Amazon, then you're not being honest. You use those opinions, whether they be right or wrong to guage and help make a decision. Now if most are saying that this game isn't as good as RotE 2, then it's MORE likely to be true. That doesn't mean certainly because it's subjective, but it IS more likely. Moreover, as someone who has the game, played a lot of it and who writes games at a well known software house for a living and who's opinion aligns with the majority, it's more likely that I'm right. That's not a guarantee, but it's definitely more likely. Since you don't even own the game, nor have you played it, basically means you're opinion is baseless and full of shit. Buy it, play it and then you'll know what I'm talking about. Until then, I don't really want to engage with someone who's offering an opinion on something they've not even fucking played.
@S3RAVA3LM
@S3RAVA3LM Год назад
@@thewelder3538 I am a bike rider and this right now is as close as it gets" - yorkshirepud has stated this. Does this man having experience of riding not matter as a factor? You stated "it doesnt matter who said what". You then are indirectly stating that even if a chap rides motorcycles, his opinion still doesn't matter because he's the minority. I question your logic here. Call of duty has a majority of players compared to Hell Let Loose, and the fact is HLL is very much better than call of duty. Fewer people drive exotic cars so cheap 4 cylinder cars must be better. Also your criterion here as a basis, is comparing an arcade game to a simulation. Thus your logic implies really only your preference: that you like simulation racers over arcade racers and that's perfectly fine. Yet, I see you do compare TT3 to TT2 which im trying to figure out; again, because yorkshirepud has stated that he even redownloaded TT2 again when somebody else said it was better than TT3, yorkshirepud states that it is incorrect ultimately.

Shit review! Didn’t compare it to the previous 2 games in the series. What’s improved, what’s not and what’s worse! The truth is…..after stupidly dropping fifty notes on this, in blind faith that it would automatically improve on the last game and being on PS5, the graphics and effects would be much improved…..this is a BIG step backwards….pop up roadside scenery, very poor framerate at times which actually makes you feel dizzy, the feeling and sound of speed from the blur and wind noise of the last game is gone as is the detailed setup and telemetry of the bikes. Don’t even get me started on the cloned mannequins they have added as spectators. Very disappointing, to say the very least! If you have the previous game, avoid this, it’s no better at most things and much worse at others……if you don’t have any of them, get the 2nd in the series, it’s vastly superior to this effort!

I've noticed that this third TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge game is made by the same develop team that made Rims Racing and the difficulty for that game was ABSURD (even on the easiest difficulty setting the game was hard as hell after they did the update, and not in a good way). The difficulty is not really any harder than the 1st and 2nd games but don't waste your money on this rubbish, it's really terrible, the handling is very unrealistic, I find it very hard to believe anyone who worked on this has even been anywhere near even a 125, the sound is really terrible, the bikes sound like RC aeroplanes with 1CC engines, it's horrible. There's not even a time trial mode to learn the circuits and compete with others on leader boards, I really can't believe how awful this game is, a real let down for the IOM TT, has this game studio really done other motorcycle games? If so I don't want to play them. If there's any download extras to be released for this game I won't be wasting more money on them, IOM TT should have had nothing to do with this bilge.

This game DOES NOT WORK on the PS4 even though it is packaged as being for the PS4. It is NOT fit for purpose. It is now on update version 1.04 and you can still expect to find multiple “grass speed bumps” appear as the graphics cannot refresh fast enough. When these appear you will be launched into space while the ai riders just go through them with no problem. You will not be able to complete most events because of this. Ramsey hairpin in particular is a very bad joke as the whole section, as well as “speed bumps” across the tarmac, is a complete mess as the graphics struggle to refresh. There are random “lockups” during races as your bike will just stop while the bots continue. Eventually your bike might start moving again but, by then, any hope of winning your race have long gone. There are so many niggles about this game that are just glossed over by reviewers. I have completed over 30 seasons on TT2 and I forget how many on TT1 plus various versions of Ride and MotoGP so I’m hardly a bike newbie. It is disgusting that paying punters are expected to do the game testing that studios should have completed before the game is released. The PS5 version has gradually improved through the updates to be playable but Ramsey hairpin is still a mess. No speed bumps though. I have also bought the extended version for Steam so you can see that I really want to enjoy this game.
