Take it easy James. The only reason BA is even considered getting paid is because of Purdy. The year before last BA wasn't doing well until Purdy started playing. In fact there was talk before the season that the niners were thinking of cutting BA because he wasn't living up to his potential. People forget that BA has only been good for the last year and a half. That's why he is having trouble getting paid.

It has nothing to do with the position. It has to do with scarcity and the franchise tag. If you don’t pay Tua you’ll just tag him and be in a worse negotiating position next year. Let him test the market and he’ll get a market deal because there’s teams that have nothing at quarterback. And having a quarterback is non negotiable. You can win with mediocre talent around a great quarterback. You can’t consistently win with a bad quarterback no matter the team I.e. Jimmy G.

Let me point something out as a Dolphins fan who actually watches them play, before McDaniel got here, Tua had more TD’s than INT’s and had a winning record as a starter, AND he did this with no weapons his first year and with only Waddle his second year along with a much of the slowest receivers in the league who could not get any separation, so before people start saying he was trash before McDaniel, check again, the proof is there. Happy for Tua!!! He will lead us to the promise land there’s no doubt.

Tua almost died for Miami with some of the hits he took. Never complained and came back and lead the league in passing. Apparently the ONLY QB who’s worth anything is Mahomes because ultimately, all the AFC QBs lose to him.

I'm a life long Miami fan. And I'm happy to see we have a quarterback with that passion and leadership, the fire in his eye. That being said, why are we paying all these players for really having accomplished nothing. It's not Tuas fault, it's the way the market is. But this idea that we can give up 20% of our cap to players have have yet to actually prove themselves in the big moments is crazy. We have alot of talent, high profile, high caliber, high dollar players, most of whom HAVE proven themselves. This makes it hard for all the mid level players to get paid, or to take advantage of the odd floating star that comes on the market. This is a big commitment. I hope that Tua is able to meet this very big moment and put all of the Phin faithful at ease.

Tua before McDaniel had a coach that despised him. Flores gave Tua Chan Gailey as OC. Who was retired I think. That was a dumb comparison by Shady. McDaniel shows what can happen when you have a coach that fits your QB and Tua's game is perfect for that style.

Tua still had a winning record during that two year tenure and flashes good quarterback play recognized by HOFers like peyton manning and Kurt Warner during those first two seasons.

In Flores's final year, Tua also had to work with 3 OF Coordinators (or might as well have been with the 2 co-coordinators and the QB coach) and he had a winning record in spite of that BS.

Tua's surrounding talent before Tyreek/McDaniel included: - the worst O-Line in the league (nearly 50 more pressures allowed than any other team) - RB1 in Myles Gaskin who played 10 combined special teams snaps in 2023 with 2 other teams - Run support overall ranked bottom 5 in yards, tied for worst in Y/C - WR1 in DeVante Parker who missed 9 games, left another early, and didn't start 5 others - WR2/3 Allen Hurns/Albert Wilson/Will Fuller on IR for all but 1 of Tua's games over 2 seasons. - rookie Waddle for one season - remaining WR room full of guys who last 1-3 season in Miami and now retired - Gesicki at TE who provided a big end zone target but next to no blocking ability. Gesicki in 2023 posted a 55.7 PFF grade for NE and signed by the Bengals in the offseason for the 37th highest TE salary - 3 OCs in 2 years, plus a head coach who told him to his face that he should have drafted Mac Jones

He signed an extension at 55 a year but he's not gonna get 55 a year because he get 4 mil next year and like 24 the year after that so they spread the extension over the 2 years he was getting paid less to reduce the cap hit.

I hear a lot of complaining about QB pay from these talking heads, but l never hear them talk about responsibility. The owners don’t want to pay their franchise QB that kind of money, the QB isn’t involved in the negotiations for the most part, the agent’s job is to get as much money for their client as possible. Good QB’s can get great money because of their value to that team. Franchise QB’s are a rare commodity and if you have one, you pay whatever the market will bear to keep him because without him you have no chance to win. None.

There's a simple answer for this. Because quarterback touches the ball every possession. They are the single most impactful position on a team. Of course this isn't true of every team, but just in general.

@@lamarbennett436 The center can't carry a game as much as a QB can, because they aren't as impactful on a game. A RB or a WR or a defensive player can sometimes carry games too but they don't have as many opportunities.

Cant play the argument what was Tua without McDaniel, Tua first year was a wash , had no business stepping on field after his college injury's , 2nd year concussions and Flores again another wash , in all actuality Tua has played 2 full for most part years and has improved and will only get better , Drew Brees peaked year 4 , Manning was horrible first year or so , every QB has their peak and Tua is coming this year

Jimmy G was allowed EIGHT pass attempts in the NFCCG. So saying they got them to the same place is a lazy take. Jimmy was carried there by the #1 defense in the NFL. Last year the defense was a liability at times. Especially in the playoffs. Anyone with even the most elementary football accumen can watch the two on tape and see a glaring difference.

McCoy doesn't seem to realize that wide receivers are competing for the same money that QBs get. GMs can not pay RBs and WRs and QBs 30 million a year. The entire team gets $250. Why do you thin Saquon was unhappy? He saw Jones getting $40 million and he did not think that was fair to him.

The Jimmy G argument doesn't work because the 49ers just look like a completely different beast on offense with Purdy. Like ok Jimmy G got to a super bowl, but he wasn't giving the 49ers the same toolbox to work with that purdy does. Also Purdy lost a super bowl in OT with a coin toss decision he wasn't involved with heavily impacting the flow of the game.

SBs are mostly decided on one or two decisive plays. Purdy and SF missed that crucial play in OT won by Spags and Chris Jones. Mahomes didn't miss that nerve-wraching, winning drive. Purdy was on Jimmy G. level that day, not better.

I agree with Shady but Tuas deal isn’t bad at all. It’s $41 million a year and we don’t know what the incentives are. I’m sure there’s outs for the team. People in the mainstream media go off the big number but never the contract details which matters. They made a big deal out of Daniel Jones contract but it was only really a two year deal which was really$37 million and he had to earn the rest. Some of these contracts aren’t as bad as they make it seem. But overall I agree the QB’s SHOULD earn their money.

One thing that I think most people aren't thinking about when you talk about the disparity and contracts with quarterbacks and other positions is wide receivers can be easily replaced in the draft and so can almost every other position except possibly lineman I mean they all can be replaced with younger talent but it's easier to hit in the draft for all those other positions so because it's not as easy to find the next guy the market is what it is for quarterbacks and you also have to figure in that they're ultra important to the success of a team

I'm surprised that this is even an issue. The difference between a top five QB and a replacement level QB is a full TD per game. For WR's, it's only 1 to 2 points. This determines how clubs prioritize their salary structure. Plus, a QB has a 5 to 10 year longer lifespan.

news reporters and media don’t look for logistics or information that makes sense, just facts or info they can use to get clicks or attention value. it’s easier for them to gain recognition or viewers from a segment about “most ridiculous highest paid qbs” rather than “actually fair contract deals” or the “real money” players receive. Like the fact most contracts with “guarantees” are actually structured as option or sign on bonuses for each year of a deal where the qb has to still be on the team to even collect those dollars or can even have their money restructured to grab more cash now but not be given much of later.

As someone who isn't a Tua defender, if you don't pay him, who do you replace him with? Are you confident that the 4th-6th best QB in the next draft would be better? If someone like Baker or Cousins was still on the market, you'd have an argument to bring in someone else. But it's been proven that journeyman and backup QBs simply can't run the offense, even with these weapons. It's not as easy as it looks.

Splitting hairs. Dolphins had to pay Tua for the simple reason they have no other option. Some teams draft a magician (KC, Bengals, Bills, Chargers, Houston, GB), the rest roll with their decent-but-no-game-changer QB and hope for the best. But ALL teams have to pay their QB once they found him, because "only decent" QBs are so rare to come by, and the QB IS the superstar of the team. Always. Hence the price.

I think Tua made a smart decision sticking with a coach, talent, and organization that has very much supported him. They drafted him when he went through that big college injury when a bunch of people didn't want to. The concussions would have scared off a bunch of people. But the dolphins have stuck with him.

You can argue what you want, but the 49ers are worse without Brock Purdy than they are without Brandon Aiyuk. I am not even a Purdy fan at ALL, but it's not even close. The same can be said about Christian McCaffrey, who is IMO, the best RB in the league. Let's live in reality, and not fantasy.
