When I listen to Olivia Rodrigo I get ads for kids toys. When I listen to Jazz I get ads for senior citizen benefits and dementia assessments. I’m 27, thank you. People under 65 like Jazz.
This is the best version - best sound quality, the sax intro is solid, great clarinet support, good vocals from Erika, the band has gotten the entire tune in its fingers. I'm surprised that no-one has commented on the quality and commitment of Shea's cornet playing. She's driving this performance forward, and her playing is spot-on, both in solo and ensemble.
Shea’s performance is damned good, alright. But this is a unified, one piece performance. You can’t take any one of them out of it and make it work like this. They are all just honkin’. Best I’ve ever seen them.
Yup. Raining here in the Waikato today, but sunny in my head listening to these lot. Appreciate all the effort the band and recorder's do to make life in sucky 2020 so much more bearable.
I’m 14 and this style of music is absolutely spectacular!! It’s something anyone of any age can enjoy- listening or playing. As a pianist, jazz is a style I’ve always adored and I try to learn more jazz pieces because they just have this special feel and they just give you joy to play.
You ever listened to a pack of Foxhounds, burning up a trail? Tuba Skinny reminds me of my Louisiana childhood. With my dad, Friday night on Bayou Serpent, listening to a chorus of Walker Hounds' voices, each distinctive, yet blending in perfect harmony. Taking turns, pausing, coming together in hair-raising wonder. What a thrill. Fixed on the blending notes bouncing off the cypress trees and calm waters. That's what Tuba Skinny does. They take me back to bayou and a magical time. Sometimes I just can't breathe. Sound becomes more important than air. We ran Gray Fox. No guns. No drinking. No animal was ever caught or hurt. All races went to ground or up a tree. The fox would give the dogs the slip when they had had enough fun. Foxhunters run fox just to listen to the hounds. Tuba Skinny takes me back to the bayou. What a pure sound.
It was certainly not a great day for filming - in the beginning -, but a really great performance of all members of the band, and a marvellous sound recording. Many thanks to all of you!
Fantastica , great lyrics too: Ella was a dancing girl who started getting fat, Every day brought two more pounds to Ella, Till one day she found she'd lost her job because of that, Then to make it worse, she lost her fella! And so she sailed to Egypt to forget, But she made such a hit that she's there yet! If you hear of a gal who can shake and quake Till it makes you think of a nervous snake, They're speaking of Egyptian Ella! She weighs two-twenty but they don't care, They like 'em plenty that way out there, She has the love of every fella! She does a dance and when she starts, by the River Nile, The boys all take their old sweethearts and throw 'em to the crocodiles! Every sheik in the audience jumps up, and yells that she's immense, How they love Egyptian Ella! The boys hang around, but she plainly states She doesn't care a fig about dates, And they can't make Egyptian Ella! A sheik tried to kidnap her once, I'm told, But she shook so much that he lost his hold, He couldn't take Egyptian Ella! So the Pasha wrote her a royal note with his royal fist, It said because of the dance she does, she's on his royal waiting list, And that's how fame of a diff'rent sort Has come at last from an indoor sport, To our own Egyptian Ella! All the other dancers, from the desert to the Nile, One by one admit that they are jealous, For although they dance each night and wear their sweetest smile, Ella's tent's the one that draws the fellas! And yet her dance is something they can't steal, For nothing else could do it but an eel! If you see a girl with two big hips just like the rudders on two big ships You’re looking at Egyptian Ella With eyes of passion that blink and stare, a disposition that's almost there You can bet upon that Dardanella She does a flip and then a flap and seems to have the knack last night she flip flapped from the mat and very nearly broke her back If you want to know why men by scores have given up kilts and wear plus fours, Blame it on Egyptian Ella!
We don’t hear much of this type of music here north of the 49th, but when I came across you guys I was instantly hooked. You guys are great. It’s been a long time since I watched a music video and smiled the whole time. Thank you.
You all probably dont give a shit but does someone know of a way to log back into an instagram account?? I was dumb forgot my account password. I appreciate any tips you can give me
@@huyphan2005 Wow take a chill pill. Sevvy is just saying even a teen can appreciate old style music such as this. If you don't give a fuck, why answer the comment?
I thought your answer was very thoughtful and articulate. I’ll bet you read a lot. Don’t let internet haters get you down. I agree with you and hope you have a Blessed Day.
@@huyphan2005 You can fuck off, Huy-phooey! (Or, maybe I should say: Đồ khốn kiếp!) Yes, we DO care about young people getting into trad jazz! The more young people who learn to like (and play) this music, the better! It's YOUR comment that's a load of bollocks, and you can't even get your English idioms right. Moron!
I grew up with Dixie band music in 1960'/ 70's because of my Dad. Loved it ever since. You guys are so lively and interesting, masters with your instruments. A twinge and a trick with each piece of music. You are great musicians, each segment perfectly directed. Love the dress code as well, sooooo laid back and casual - befitting your style
Sometimes you wish you could freeze time and transport back to this day at this exact moment on that street in New Orleans and experience this priceless performance ..... WHAT A GREAT JAZZ BAND!!
This is an absolutely brilliant rendition and performance. Tuba Skinny is the best in the world. Fair absolutely brilliant individually and collectively. Erika Lewis often sounds like a reincarnation of Bessie Smith and the other brilliant singers of her day. Erika really captures that sound.
👍👌👏 Oh WOW, simply fantastic! Very energising music played by very skilled musicians! Thank you so much for making playing recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards, luck and especially health to all involved people.
He's English. I used to see that guy around London all the time. He literally always had a reed instrument in his hand. He has played with EVERYone. So cool to see him pop up in New Orleans doing his thing with other great players.
Yup, that's Ewan Bleach you're talking about, check out his Sax interplay with John Doyle's clarinet in ' Fingering with your Fingers' alongside all the other Tuba Skinny gang. It doesn't get better!
Jeez, Americans with cameras! Shove it in your face, they just walk in front of one another, authorised by possessing the camera. They’d be fighting a lot in the U.K. I can assure you. Not claiming we are better mannered, just that we are less ‘pushy’. Erica is great here, this tune was written for her. Egyptian Ella, I love it. Thank you TS.
THE BEST DIXIELAND BAND EVER. EVERY ONE OF THE MUSICIANS IS GREAT , AND THEY ALL KNOW HOW TO BLEND TO MAKE THAT WONDERFUL BAND SOUND . THE WIZARD OF THE WASHBOARD REALLY DRIVES THE RYTHM SECTION , AS SHAYE DRIVES THE LEAD SECTION .
This is far removed from the general listening to music of which I own and listen too....Without a doubt though....I will be buying and listening to these guys well before any of you have read this post. This is absolutely wonderful.
