Many thanks, Randy. Yet another tune added to Tuba Skinny's repertoire of well over 400! It's new to me, but Dr. Google tells me it was composed by Joe Greene (1915 - 1986) and was first performed in 1951 by June Barton. It's clearly a very enjoyable 32-bar a-a-b-a- number, played here in the key of F. Phrases and chord progressions are reminiscent of some of the good ol' spirituals. My favourite part of this performance occurs from 02:48 to 03:08, where Shaye takes the tune up at the Middle Eight and plays an improvisation over the chords of the next sixteen bars - the kind of unpretentious yet sublime improvisation that flows so often from her unique musical mind.
Thanks as always for your input Ivan! Greg said he discovered this tune through his appreciation for Wynonie Harris. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7PAcUK6WDp0.htmlsi=LIjqIjUxyUyOcYBq
Good choice Greg!!! Wynonie Harris is certainly a source of many great tunes....He recorded this shortly after June Barton. Another outstanding Shaye solo...........
