just wanted to thank you for all the work on these videos man. Really helps me understand the basics of what's going on inside the amp, clears up lotta confusion. Thanks man!
Pedal placement can be a little confusing sometimes. This is very informative and very well explained, thank you. I believe there is a general rule that is: Wah & Distortion before the amp and the other pedals go in the effect loop...correct if I'm wrong..it's just what I've heard. Cheers Anthony.
@gome5000 If you want to truly mute the input of the amp, put the tuner before the amp, not in the effects loop. Not to mention, running the signal through the preamp before the tuner, may, (I'm not sure) affect tuning accuracy.
Your effects loop is a parallel loop, meaning that there is also a signal path that skips the loop. Your tuner might stop the effects loop signal, but the parallel signal doesn't see this.
LONG story SHORT: effects loops are used to send guitar signal through amp FIRST, then through EFFECTS, then LOOP back into the AMP for, well, amplification!
This was super helpful I have always found where to put the pedals confusing. Mostly because I'm a beginner and just now feel comfortable to but and start using pedals
are there some kind of pedals that work best outside of the effects loop as opposed to in the effects loop? Do people plug their entire pedal board into their effects loop? or some pedals in the fx loop and others out? Am I even getting the concept right? lol
try it all, and whatever sounds best to you, is best for you...everybody is different, and fx pedals in different orders create different sounds...go play!
Great set of videos! they are great. I have the hot rod deluxe iii, I want to lead on my clean channel so I need the volume to go up, but I don't want to change the tone, adding only minimal distortion if at all, can you recommend a good pedal to use with this?
Thanks for this video! I was having exactly the issue you described with a digital delay going through a Marshall JVM head. I used to use a Fender Twin with a clean setting and used an OD and distortion pedal and then the delay. When I switched to the Marshall I started using the amps natural distortion and suddenly my delay sounded awful. I will start using the effects loop now. I feel like a doof for not thinking this through better! Thanks again, great video!
ok you have to use the pre amp tubes to use the effecs loop right? is there any way that the signal goes through the distorted sound of the PowerTubes, and then to the effects pedal?
NO. Trying to connect anything other than an attenuator, speaker cabinet, or other device that provides the right load for your amp will have terrible (and expensive) results. Hopefully you got that answer before anything got damaged!
Thanks for these great videos! I've recentlyread that you don't have to turn your amp on without a speaker connected because that is gonna ruin your amp...is it true? what does that mean? thank you!
