Thanks For Sharing ! I have the 175 machine I like it we use Bend Tech it has some bending dope that helps you calculate your spring angle ... it’s actually pretty accurate I have found out although each material SCh 10, 40 , 80 and material like stainless each have its own dope it’s kind of a pain but when you get all the data gives you a good base line of your spring back Thanks again for sharing your info really liked your stringer video. I love it when a customer says I got this simple rail ! You know what I am chuckling about no rail we do is cake wish it was :) keep up the training it’s great info Charlie

Yes sir that's awesome, Baileigh makes some amazing machines. It's pretty awesome what you can build with the right tools. Thanks for watching

Do you guys ever notice the pipe twisting during bends? I bend a ton of sched 40 1-1/4 handrail pipe and it seems every piece is alittle different. I also have an rdb250, 3” die, I try to compensate for the rotation during bends but sometimes it won’t sometimes it will. We just tweak the pipe after the bend if needed but I wasn’t sure if this was a me problem or material inconsistency maybe?

So sorry for the delay in response. I don’t think we ever notice much twisting as we do inconsistent material. That causes more issues than twisting as it makes for inconsistent bends. Once we get spring back set the way we want we’re good but having material that changes in thickness is mostly the issue we have.

Hey I've found if you program you our degree in and use 13 as your spring back it should be the same for most bends. Or when you program the bend angle add about 13 degrees so if you have a 90° program at 103° with 0 spring back and it will be very close
@MattcoMetalWorks
@MattcoMetalWorks 4 года назад
Rob Nolan yes we’ve found 13 is a good number. It doesn’t work for all bends on our particular bender. I’m going to try and make a cheat sheet one of these days and make a video. I’m not sure why Baileigh doesn’t do it and send with there benders so it would eliminate a lot of guess work. Thanks for watching.

@@MattcoMetalWorks yes it would be nice. To have a program with the bends on it also a setback sheet drop 3"1/8 off measurement to get to center of your 90°bend. We have spent alot of time figuring it out

Would the spring back change w different degrees of bend- ie less springback% at a 10 degree band vs a 90 degree bend?
@MattcoMetalWorks
@MattcoMetalWorks 5 лет назад
Steve Lippincott yes sir that is correct. You would have to find the spring back for each angle you bend as they will be different. There will only be a couple degrees difference but you would still have to find the spring back. Once you get it you can then program it in the bender or make a cheat sheet for future reference

Hey Matt, now that youve had the rdb-250 for 3+yrs how is it holding up so far? I’m about to purchase one and was interested in your opinion on it. I don’t know if I should get the 15 or 20 ft index table as well or if the 10fter is sufficient enough...I’ve heard a lot of negative reviews on the index table stating that it’s not robust and rigid enough.

First of all thanks for watching and I hope you’ve subscribed. Great question also. We love the RDB 250 and before that the RDB 125 It’s held up great. We’ve had to replace the brass piece in a die set but other than that it’s been very durable and reliable. As for the index table we bought the 20’ section and used it about 2 weeks and put it back in the box and it’s been collecting dust ever since. That is however partly due to limited space. You need quite a bit of room as that whole mechanism moves as you bend. It doesn’t just stay in the same spot that’s why it has those casters on the end. As you start to bend it moves with the pipe. If and when we have more shop space I will most likely get it all hooked back up. It all depends on what you are building with the machine. I can see it’s use but also we’ve become very efficient without it.

Do you bend much 1.5 Pipe . I need to the tooling . For a tight radius. But not shure how tight I Can go
@MattcoMetalWorks
@MattcoMetalWorks 3 месяца назад
yes we bend 1.25" and 1.5" on a regular basis using 3" CLR die set It's not as tight as a 90degree elbow you buy from Wagner or King Metals so it won't match exactly. You can check to see if they offer a tighter radius
@JC-un4bg

Is your 1.5 “ pipe die 3”clr . What wall thickness is that . Thanks for responding. The guy here in the uk is saying I need the 6”clr . To do 2.5mm wall . .098” ish wall .
@MattcoMetalWorks
@MattcoMetalWorks 3 месяца назад
@@JC-un4bg our 1.5" die is 5" CLR but there is a difference between PIPE AND TUBE dies, for pipe i'm referring to Schedule 10 and 40 pipe we use for handrails. If you're doing tube car chassis work for example you'd want to be using something like DOM TUBE which is much stronger but generally thinner wall tube that requires a TUBE die set you can't cross those over.

Any tips on how to lay out pipe for handrails that bend back 90 and go back into the legs? Using this bender
@MattcoMetalWorks
@MattcoMetalWorks 4 года назад
Jeremy Crapo yep it can be done but a lot of times we’ll make the hoop that 90’s back and then put a elbow in to make it connect to the post. There’s a couple different ways you can do it.

Just bought rdb325 with 6", 7",and 9" radius. I bend 180 degrees and I'm not getting a 6" radius. Im getting a consistent 180 degree but the radius is 6.25" making my center line 12.5". I havnt had this issue with other benders with 6"radius.. any ideals. How much pressure needed on pressure die against bend? Could speed cause this
@MattcoMetalWorks
@MattcoMetalWorks 4 года назад
Very possible the clamp pressure isn’t the same. And also bend speed will have an affect also. I would suggest taking some scrap and making some test bends with different bend speeds but don’t make large jumps.
