Great video again - thanks! After some 6SL7 tube rolling on my R8 I did my personal ranking so far. Still waiting for delivery of MELZ metal base 6SL7. I have the KT88 version of the R8. Tube rolling for the R8 is really fun as there is great potential in already good amplifier :-) 1. Philips/Mullard ECC35 (Blackburn factory. Year=?). Excellent stereo image. Bass is great as is mids and treble. The overall leader but Tungsol 6SU7WGT is close. 2. Tungsol 6SU7WGT (1960th I think), Bass tightens up and great stereo image, Great mids and treble as well) Great overall performance. 3. General Electric 6SL7GT (1965). Significant general improvement compared to stock 6SL7. Bass however is still a bit boomy. Great treble. 4. Willsenton 6SL7. Good overall performance. Bass is a bit boomy.
The Sylvania 6sl7gt (my inv#46b, g, j) are the first generation (1950's), they are all slightly different, but very much the same wonderful sounding tube. #279/289 &322 is a very different tube, Sylvania jan6sl7wgt, very high gain type, mil spec, made 1950's - 1980ish., The difference is the original gt is very warm with nice detail and soundstage. The wgt is very clean clear and crisp, lots of clarity, good detail and a great soundstage. If you love the tube sound and listen to acoustic jazz, vocal Jazz etc you will love #46, very much like the MELZ 6sl7 from 50's, but more reliable. If you like your music very clean and love minute detail you'll prefer the wgt.
