On my phono preamp the Linlai E-6SN7 play a little meager i.e. they produce a rather thin sound without a strong, authoritative bottom end. Far from special. IME the late Psvane CV-181 smoke glass play fantastic. Quite another planet
I've only been tube rolling for less than a year but I've tube rolled A LOT during that short time. I've noticed that opinions about tubes vary dramatically and I think this is purely based on what equipment you're using with the tubes and also if you're combining them with other tubes. There was one guy who found a tube cold whereas i found it dramatically leaning to the warm side. Such a contrast in opinions. I have the linlai E-6SN7 myself at home and in my Schiit Freya they sound very neutral...nothing sounds overly accentuated. Bass is tight but can be a tad restrained. Vocals are ok although somewhat lean. I have heard much better, more full bodied vocals but once again differing opinions because my dac, amps and speakers might interpret or change it in a totally different way. I've come to the conclusion that no tube is good or bad just different flavours that suit different equipment.
I agree with you. It is highly system dependent on how they sound. I like that the Linlai tubes are more neutral and that is subjective to the listener and associated equipment.
