Great instruction. I love tube settings and use the tube setting tools, so simple for people with limited hands. Very good editing, you both are easy to listen to.

Thank you so much for your videos. They are a good length, well filmed, informative and concise. As a self taught beginner I have not seen this technique before and I am excited to try it out. You’ve been and continue to be invaluable resource to me and clearly many others too. Just realized I hadn’t subscribed, so that’s been taking care of. Thanks again for sharing.

Thanks Dan - yes, the visual impact is a lot less with the edges angled like that - Thanks for the comment

Thank you so much. It is great to see how the professionals do it. (I had a minor OMG moment at 10:31... so glad that it was just a trick of the light). Beautiful work. I can't wait for next week.

Our pleasure, thanks for your comment. How strange, I had no trouble setting this and the stone is still in perfect condition. 😨

came to the comments to see if anyone else noticed, strange , maybe it was a reflection from a light was was blocked by his hand and suddenly became visible when he moved his finger. But for sure it looked like a crack when he pushed down
@jacothejeweller
@jacothejeweller 10 месяцев назад
@@arabiclearner711 all good 😊 and might I say well spotted. You are witnessing the pitch separating from the stone. I had to reheat the piece with the stone in it and this is when the separation happened. Eagle eyed. Love it.

Burring away the metal would be a great lesson, I am going to jewellery school next Monday to learn channel set maybe you could do a new video on that so I could get your tips and tricks

Great video. Another way to bend the metal onto the stone, use a Dremel electric engraver. Very cheap and quick too, you can make your own various shaped tips and it works a treat. The only downside, it's noisy. But it does the trick.

Agreed 👍 Those are great. They last forever too. I used the push method here just for a 'beginner style' video but for daily grind this tool is right next to me at all times when I'm setting.

This is brilliant. I especially liked the tip about where to position the bail in relation to the setting. I’ve never heard anyone talk about logistics like that on any channel and it’s so easy for it to end up looking odd. I may have missed it but I was wondering how much approx the inner ring is smaller than the outer? I’d like to try this in copper but using premade tubes if possible. Thank you!
@jacothejeweller
@jacothejeweller 8 месяцев назад
Hi there, thank you for the kind words! The inner tube needs to be the same size as the stone. The outer tube needs to be the same size as the outside of the inner tube so they fit together. I hope this helps - good luck with the copper setting.

Hello! Thanks for making quality videos as always, I enjoy watching how you work. Question: what is that round metal disc/tool you put your shellac in? Is it something you fabricated? It seems to be a very useful tool for setting as you can grab it with your palm and rotate as you set.
@jacothejeweller

Thanks for the compliment 🙏🏻 and as for the tool, it’s from grs tools. I can’t recall exactly what it’s called now, but you would find it on their website 👍🏻

😂 no - that’s the setters wax moving away from the stone. You are not the first one to spot this. The stone is alive and well 👌🏻

you dont need an ultra sonic cleaner. A good old toothbrush will do. ...shut up...I'm poor, goldsmithing is epensive to start from scratch, naybe in 1-2 months I can afford the expense.. for like a cheap heating one from amazon for 70 bucks.

Sure is. I started right at the bottom and had to drive around to get my metal rolled before I had a rolling mill. It’s worth the trouble though - tools are a great help. Thanks for watching.
