This movie shows blood fractionation (plasma and serum aliquoting and buffy coat isolation) on a Tecan Freedom EVO200 equipped with AirLiHa 8 tips, PosID and SciRobotics TubeEye for tubes imaging and fraction analysis.
TubeEye is an add-on that attaches to the PosID automated tube label reader. After the PosID reads tube labels the TubeEye captures images of the tubes and identified the different fractions in the tube.
TubeEye is flexible and can identify different fractions including plasma, serum, buffy coat or the gel in SST tubes. It can work with any of the common tube types such as EDTA or SST. Other types of analysis can be configured and used. The TubeEye calculates the volume and height of each fraction.
The Tecan Freedom EVO uses fraction heights and volumes to calculate aliquoting and for precisely extracting the buffy coat. It uses a special spiral aspirating method for isolating the buffy coat from beneath the plasma using a small volume of liquid and with high yield.
Together this comprises a complete solution for blood fractionation for biobanks including buffy coat extraction.
