I'm wondering if it was something similar in this case. Dogs don't usually turn violent on their owners like that. I've had several bully's and never had any problems. I just got another one. Heeler/Pit mix she's quite the handful. I'm more concerned with the Heeler part in all honesty.
I’m so sorry for you both 😞 Part of the problem caused by the “pit bull” stigma is that when the attack is from that type of dog no one looks for the underlying reason, it’s all chalked up to the breed, despite the fact that these dogs aren’t all the same breed and the vast majority of bully breeds never cause a problem.
That would be really hard. Reminds me of when a husband gets dementia and says cruel things in a relationship that was loving . (My darling father). That would really hurt me, mate- if my little cat turned on me. Sorry, mate
I wonder if this woman has ever stopped to think that her dog could have turned on somebody else and killed them. Or the dog could have gotten out of the house and mauled somebody else other than her. Perhaps it wasn't her first pitbull and up until that point she would have said, Oh they're just cuddle bugs. I don't understand pitbull proponents. They don't seem to activate their common sense. Pitbulls are fundamentally different: they attack to kill, and they succeed more than any other breed. Other dogs bites are generally a one-and-done kind of thing, but the pitbull doesn't let go and doesn't stop. That is what is fundamentally different about them. Why is that so difficult for pitbull proponents to understand? And why wouldn't these people choose another "sweet" dog that is not so potentially dangerous? I really think pitbull owners need to evaluate this about themselves, and why they choose such a loaded-gun breed.
@@user-ry1vi1jc7o , I think many people don’t always employ logic when it comes to these things. They see something that “needs” them and “loves” them. I had a min dachshund when I got pregnant, decades ago. She had eaten me up, only once. As soon as I knew I was pregnant, I rehomed her. Told the single lady about the incident. She had 4 or 5 already of the same breed. Never had a problem. Pit bulls ARE a very different breed. You are correct.. and they do aim to kill. Not just snap. I got my son a basset to grow up with.. she was beyond mellow and good natured.. and I’ve always been partial to a fine mutt.. what we have right now.
"They see something that 'needs' them and 'loves' them." Yes, I can see that. There is probably also some kind of feeling of connection in being part of the community that they see as helping the outcasts, so to speak. And you are a good mama for having found your Dachshund another home. That must have been difficult.
@@user-ry1vi1jc7o , oh, I agree with you wholeheartedly. There’s nothing like rescuing someone, something in dire straits. I do it with cast-off furniture on the curb! Lol. Honestly? It was not difficult. All I could think about was this dog chewing up my baby’s little fingers for no reason, like she did me. I’d go see her still. She was happy and healthy. All that mattered to me. ❤
I saw a lady in Kroger about a week ago just as I was coming in the store, and she had a assumedly pitbull or pitbull mix on a leash, and the dog lunged at me! It was scary and that dogs should not have been in the store at all and absolutely was not a service dog because service dogs do not behave that way ever. It really scares me that pitbulls can just randomly lose themselves and start trying to kill someone or another animal...
Service Dogs are not allowed to be aggressive BY LAW. So even if it was a legitimate Service Dog, the instant it becomes aggressive it loses Public Access rights, and can legally be removed from the store. Go to management, and to Corporate and complain that they did not remove an aggressive dog.
The thing with Pitbulls is that they don't let go. Other dogs will bite and let go, and even if they continue with the attack you have a chance to move, but Pitbulls are like a vice grip. The other thing about Pitbulls is that you can't read them. you can't see hair go up on their backs they don't growl for the most part. I won't have anything to do with them.

@@loverainthunder I have been screaming about it for a while now. I am glad that you understand it. It is all by design. They want chaos. Majority of the public is totally blind. It is a national emergency. There are doctors that are asking to ban the breed after seeing so many patients mauled by this breed but someone higher up is blocking it all, protecting the chaos. I started to think that it is all done on purpose.
I wonder if it was the passing of her husband? It was rescued from a homeless man. Maybe the dog was used to being around men but not women only?? Maybe she yells a lot? Who knows.
They just do that. One killed a little boy she grew up with because he sneezed. 2 who were raised from puppies mauled the little girls of the family to death and tried to kill the mom. The mom said the kids were just playing in the backyard and they dogs ran over and started killing them. The breed just snaps. They are the best dogs until for no reason they suddenly aren't. Thousands of stories like these through the years. I can't find a single one about a golden retriever. It is the breed.
@laurie877 ... German S.'s are beautiful dogs. We had a German S./Siberian H. mix. However, the only downside to both of these breeds is ... they shed like crazy! You could make a pillow out of their loose fur on the floor in one days' time. So, if you're a clean freak like I am and want to keep a clean house, they're not the breed for you. SHED 100% big time! But as for their disposition, they're great and like you said very protective, loyal and gentle. Our Lab Ret. was too! Good family dogs for love, support and protection.
No, they are NOT. They are vicious. You are insane and a LIAR. You have to know the breed, my ass. Sound like every other idiot dog owner who claims, "Oh, my dog never did that before..." Until it DID.
@@bukka6697Critical thinking too hard for you? These types of dogs are the ones most often bought and sold waaaay too young for quick cash, ill-socialized, left chained outdoors all their lives, encouraged to be aggressive, neglected, abused, and abandoned, but when you see how a statistically insignificant percentage of them behave you blame it on the “breed”, rather than on how a large percentage of them are treated and produced. This despite the fact that “pit bulls” aren’t all one breed, and millions of them never cause any problems at all. I get that simple minds need simple answers, but the wrong answers never lead to a correct understanding.
Poor woman, I hope she fully recovers from this attack. This breed is one I would never get, very vicious and unpredictable, I’ve seen enough in real life and in the news 🚫
I've had several. The biggest babies in the world. 2 came from really bad circumstances and thet where wonderful. I would adopt them again without a second chance. This dog could have had a tumor it could have been sick. NO dog just attacks its owner after 4 yrs unless there's more to the story
It does matter what breed.. by far it is pit bulls that attack to kill. They're actually banned in some places. And good luck getting homeowners insurance if they know you own one.
I'm not fond of pits at all. I do not trust them. I kno not all pits are bad. Just as not all dogs are bad period but there's too many stories on pitbulls turning for no reason. It's a shame too. Thank God the lady survived
It's a shame people foolishly believe they can "fix" or save these dogs. No amount of training ,care or Love will change their natural genetic traits. Same goes for other Breeds. Bloodsport fighting dogs will attack completely unprovoked. No one can know if or when.
@@sammy9103 even if it weren't the case of strictly Bloodlines it's the ability that the dog has no matter how good or badly it is bred the ability will always be there to create lethal wounds. It is a responsibility to own a dog. Most have no idea they are carrying a loaded gun that can go off aimless and half cocked. Then there are those who use these dogs for protection and do not have them properly trained. Then there are those dogs that just snap
@@Nayr747Both the shitbulls and the owners defending this breed and absolutely not having any empathy for victims of them. This woman took in someones ticking time bomb and the shelter probrably knew nothing about it's past because it probrably was dumped off!
I am so sorry for this lady, and for her daughter having to do such a thing but I would have too if it had been my mother. But this is what I've been saying for years, Pitbulls haven't had the aggression bred out of them enough to make them safe pets. This one kind of proves my point that it doesn't matter how much love and care you give them, and other certain breeds, there are aggressions still hiding and something could set them off. I hate that this is the case, but we've seen so many people injured or killed by Pitbulls that they would swear were absolute sweethearts and could never hurt a fly. Supporters of Pitbulls cry "You have to love them, you have to show them love and they won't hurt you!" That's what this woman did and for 4 years she was safe...until she wasn't. Certain breeds of dogs need way more time to breed the aggressive instincts out of and unfortunately Pitbulls are at the top of the list.
I've rescued a poodle from a bad background. She never mauled anyone and was sweet, she was a little nervous getting a leash and collar on. Never wanted to delete anyone. My pit from a good background was never trustworthy. Growled at chidren, was too eager to chase down every animal during a walk. I had to give her away to someone that did not live in a city because she was a time bomb. She wanted to chase people on bikes, she was very difficult for a small woman to handle, it would take me and a friend to hold her leash when she wanted to bolt after someone or something.
Cannot trust people with this breed of dog. Not to mention when dealing with a powerful breed these dogs are unpredictable. It amazes me when people have children and these type of dogs. People should be prosecuted if you subject your child to a dangerous dog and a attack happens. Stories constantly about these dogs.
Yes, I agree that the owners of Pitbulls should be avoided. They are not able to reason things out. They enjoy having a dangerous animal under their control. There's something really really wrong with that. Why wouldn't they choose another breed? Why this particular breed that is bread for aggression and fighting, and as far as I know, it's the only breed that will clamp onto and not let go of its victim. Why do they enjoy that potential in an animal? Why do they always rush in to defend the breed after yet another mauling?
Yes bad owners are often to blame for poor socialisation and training etc of dogs when they turn like this but problem is these types dogs were bred as fighting dogs so have that genetic inclination already meaning adopting one is risky and even having one from a puppy you have to be on high alert all the time as well as a very good dog handler who’s ideally had the dog undergo training sessions which almost never happens with the average Joe. The pit bull actually originated in England my country and is one of a few banned breeds there since the 90s. You need a certificate of exemption to have one. America should take note.
Sadly, some dogs can be dangerous! And I don't mean nippy, I mean deadly! People who misrepresent danger as being nips, are liars. Dangerous dogs can be deadly! It doesn't mean little nippy dogs. It means big and aggressive dogs, like fighting breeds, that can kill. And once again, another attack has happened. This woman was silly to let the situation continue. She should have given the animal to Animal Control.
We have a Pitbull that we adopted as a puppy. She is our second. She’s getting older, and because she *is* a Pitbull, we’re always watching for signs of dementia or aggression. It breaks my heart to say it, but as responsible owners, we have to put her down at the first sign of aggression toward a person or another animal (apart from normal dog/dog behavior).
I'm covered in scars from my neighbors pit bull mix he tried to pull my puppy through my fence. When I rescued my puppy, the pitbull grabbed my arm and ripped me to shreds. I walked to my mailbox this evening, and that same dog was running loose, barking and growling at me. The police didn't nor will they ever do anything about it. Sorry that happened to you, nice lady.
My sister's German Shepherd, who she had had his whole life in the last year of his life would just go off. It was like he got dementia too. He attacked me when I was just standing beside her and I had known him his whole life. He was ten years old. I felt so bad for him and I wouldn't let them punish him cause you could tell he just lost it. I'm just glad it wasn't like this. Poor woman.
For any of you here in the comments talking about how sweet your pit bull is, just make sure you have substantial liability insurance. I've yet to meet a pit bull owner that has insurance on their mongrels.
Oh thank God that precious, kind woman survived that horrific attack and her daughter saved her life. But I hate to say it, Pitbulls are dangerous, extremely bite prone. Only on the rarest occasion are they entirely trustworthy.
Pits can be the pits- do not rescue- no gratitude from that rotten dog. Face it- dogs have murdered people. Stop putting all of them on a pedestal especially "pittys". Pity the human victims instead.
Certain breeds are always dangerous, no matter how they’re treated. My dog is magnificent, but there are a few dogs out there which are dangerous. They should not be adopted out.
Yes, I pity the human victims. But, I have seen beautiful sweet pitbulls. And I have seen aggressive pitbulls. Many of these pits are treated cruelly by previous owners. They may even have been trained into dog fighting or guarding. I wouldn't trust rescuing a dog if that was the case. When you adopt an animal, you don't allows know it's full back story of was it abused. But, any dog that has abuse in it's history to me, is a ticking time bomb! I do give this woman great sympathy. But, I have to feel for the dog also, because surely it suffered abuse in it's past to lash out like that. That's why if I ever rescue a dog, I will always get a small puppy who hasn't had much of a change to have suffered any abuse yet, in it's short life. I don't trust adopting a full grown dog because you never know what cruelty it has suffered that has left it's temperament unstable.
And another ignorant statement because everything on social media is the truth. You don’t have the whole story this is what’s wrong with society. Fact check, stupid.
@@lindyc.2552 I have rescued LOTS of dogs and my pit was the only one to growl at children. The children never went near the dog, they were on the other side of the fence- she growled for NO reason. I am absolutely done with those breeds. You adopt an abused poodle, it will love you forever and not try to maul your neighbor's children.
So glad she survived. I’ve had friends with wonderful pit bulls and others with horrible ones. Sad thing is you never know the breeding situation and unfortunately sometimes it’s too late.
How very sad. I'm so glad you got through this terrible experience. I love all animals but your daughter did the right thing. Who knows why the dog suddenly attacked there are simply no anwers. Continue to get well
When you have owned a dog for 4 yrs that’s no longer « a rescue « that’s your dog. The headline is misleading - I thought she rescued this dog and the next day it tried to kill her.
@@paulettebarrow9791 Sorry, but this "it can happen with any dog" is PURE NONSENSE. It is *consistently* only a few breeds, with pitbulls leading the stats by a wide margin. There are 200+ dog breeds, and the vast majority have ZERO fatalities associated with them. ZERO.
Glad your recovering hope others will think twice about getting a pit bull. These dogs are very aggressive and you truly don’t know what will trigger an attack.
She's has the dog since 2020, and she turned agressive ladt year. It's very possible that the dog had a medical condition and was never taken to be checked out, assuming that it's just the dog's breed. I feel sad for the dog, and also for the daughter who had to shoot her.
How awful, terribly awful. The victim and her daughter are heroes, the mother for doing what's necessary for her recovery and the daughter for saving her mother's life.
How are they heroes? This dog could've attacked and killed the daughter. It could've attacked and killed the appliance repair man. It could've gotten out of the house and attacked in a killed a child. It is not heroic to save your own or a loved one's life. The heroic thing would be not to own this kind of animal that is bread to attack and maul.
Well you know what you have when you bring it home. People try fill a hole in their empty life by bringing hard cases home and letting them stay anxious, angry and confused. That dog was feral and lived a homeless life then lost the only human it trusted. They simply replicate the emotions created by their environment. It’s sad, I don’t blame the daughter for doing what she had to do to save her mom.
I saw a video posted a few days ago about a family dog killing a baby in its crib. Since the dog was a Husky, not one comment mentioned the breed of the dog as a problem, or even blamed the dog at all - the blame was all on the parents for leaving the room.
Not true. I saw many comments that blamed the breed -- saying that huskies are very needy of attention, and tend to become jealous of [new] babies in a household (unless they are included and integrated very conscientiously).
@@u.synlig I actually looked for such comments - didn’t see one. Of course it’s possible I missed them. But in a video involving a bully breed those comments are overwhelming, and most of the comments read as if “pit bull” refers to one specific breed rather than a few different breeds and anything else they’re mixed with, and as if the multiple millions of these types of dogs that never cause a problem don’t exist.
Infants should not be left alone with any dog. Huskies and German Shepherds injure and kill people at higher rates than most other breeds, but no other breed approaches the damage done by pit bull and pit bull mixes.
Pitbulls are a beautiful breed but people just don’t understand what they were bred for and are not pets, they are working dogs and should never be a pet. They are not a breed that doesn’t have a place in the working dog community anymore and they don’t need to keep being bred. If you have a herding dog that doesn’t have a job they will herd you or your children or your other animals. Stop breeding pitbulls for pets there are way to many of them. Eventually their instinctual behavior will come out and people get hurt. And I love pittbulls and yes they can be the sweetest most lovable dog in the world but, when it goes bad the outcome isn’t worth the cost.
Damn, so sorry that happened to her. Pls dont come for me in the comments, just stating my opinion... i had two pitbulls, and the one was the most loving dog ever. They get a bad rep, but its usually imbreeding, training, or some type of health issue. Some pitbulls i see are dangerous, but some are the complete opposite, gentle, and loving. I hope she fully recovers. Nobody deserves that.
I totally agree, they need to be trained and socialized at an early age. They also need to be exercised and have their prey drive get out somehow. I hate how these dogs are always blamed just because of their breed, it can very well be inbreeding that made this one turn, or the guy trained it to be vicious. You Never know. Don't discriminate against the breed. But this is very sad and unfortunate.
@@blackwolf9893 Do you even know what a breed IS? They exist because they were specifically selected over hundreds of generations to have specific traits. It's not some accident that pitbulls are vicious, that retrievers retrieve, that greyhounds are fast.
@@zammmerjammer And it's not no accident that whenever there is an attack, that the first thing that comes to mind is that its " pitbull". @@blackwolf9893 LOL. The American Temperament Test is based on breed standards, and is not about suitability as a pet. It states clearly you cannot use test results to compare one breed to another. This is why you train fear and respect into your dog. I guarantee she spoiled that dog rotten. You people think you need to treat him like a baby, they are not babies.
This degree of unpredictable and unprovoked violence in some dogs must be stopped. But is anyone really examining these cases to see how they can be prevented? Definitely not a breed I’d risk adopting.
It was mentioned that this woman's husband had passed away. Did this dog become aggressive after he passed? Will pray for healing physical and emotional for her.
I have my suspicions she stole the dog in the first place since it said she rescued it from a homeless person. That's usually code for I don't think you're good enough to have a pet and I could take care of them better. The dog but it doesn't seem like it was ever really her dog, the way she talks about it. I mean dog victims who are a Time by their own pets tend to have some sadness about the dog but I mean no it's like she was attacked by a random stray on the street
She said the dog started getting vicious a year ago. Could there have been something like dementia happening? It can happen in dogs as well. Was she going blind and couldn't see? An Akita and a Sharpei will do the same thing to you, too. They just aren't as common a breed
That's what I was thinking something medical. I've had several and never had any problems. The normal ones, however, the chihuahua and the boxer, were always picking fights with the PB. All dogs can and will bite for any number of reasons. Usually, because they have been taught or mistreated by a human. 😢
Any dog can attack. Often it’s a medical issue. If you see any unusual behavior with your pet, cat or dog, take them to your vet and have them checked out.
I have fostered pit bulls her first mistake was taking it from a homeless person lord knows what that dog saw and experienced and why homeless shouldn’t own or have pets living on the streets she is very very lucky to be alive
Pit bulls gonna snap no matter where you get them from. There's plenty of pitbulls that were treated as real princess's and kings, yet they still turned on their families and bite. There's no point in saying it's the homeless person fault when pit bulls snap whenever you treat them good or bad
This is sad. I don't know anything about pit bulls but they seem to require a particular type of owner. They are seriously cute puppies though so I can see why people adopt them. Sadly, they are abandoned when people realize they are strong, muscular dogs.
I feel bad for the woman and what she went through but the dog wasn’t being evil she most likely dealt with severe abuse in the past and was traumatized something set her off…it’s an unfortunate story all the way around
Can we focus on the part where they said she rescued the dog from a homeless person because I just makes it seem like she stole someone's pet because she felt like she was better than them. Just speculation but I do have my suspicions
This is a terrible, scary, heartbreaking story.....and what if the daughter hadn't had a gun??? Maybe hitting the dog with something heavy? It could have turned and attacked her as well! What causes a dog like this to go crazy? I would hope there was a necropsy done on its brain to see if there were any clues!? Who knows what the dog was exposed to living on he streets prior to her owning the dog. I am so sorry for this lady who did a nice thing saving the dog, loving the dog, then was betrayed by her dog.....this never should have happened.💔
Yes, this happens once in awhile. Thats why I would never rescue a dog that I didn't know what its background was. Many dogs have been abused by previous owners and could be so unpredictable with any new owner. Sad to say, but if I ever rescue a dog, I would rather get a small puppy without much uncertain history behind it.
Beagles are abused and never attack their owners. Greyhounds are abused and never attack their owners. But pitbull puppies raised with love from the start regularly turn on their owners. You know what the common denominator is.
@@zammmerjammer I don't know... To say that no other breed of dog that has been abused in the past ever shows aggression? I don't agree with that. Any animal previously abused has the capacity to lash out. I adopted a 4 year old Dalmatian. He was a very sweet dog. He had been abused by a man in his past. But, I could not let him around men. He would try to attack them. I just don't think that it's only pitbulls that were abused that have this capacity to lash out.
@@lindyc.2552 Thing is, even pitbulls raised with love and care regularly turn on their owners, and when they do it results in carnage, not just a few stitches. The whole "abuse" thing is a canard. All dog breeds experience abuse. Not all dog breeds react like this.
@@zammmerjammer Well, again, as this post stays up hopefully many more will comment on this. I just don't think that pitties are the only breed to turn on or bite their owners. Personally, that is not a breed of dog that I would ever be interested in owning. A friend of mine had a Chihuahua once that bit her too. I do think sometimes people demonize pitbulls.
