Join me for a tour of the extraordinary Acton Court, a unique example of almost untouched Tudor Royal State apartments. Built especially for the pleasure of King Henry VIII, Henry visited Acton Court with his second wife Anne Boleyn, for one weekend during their 1535 summer progress of the West Country.

A wonderful video. This channel deserves much much more views, I am sure with time it will get there. Just one note: I wanted to show the video to my mother, who has, like many others, a hearing disability. The automatic subs are quite bad and I would really appreciate it if the video had proper captions. They would also help those who are fascinated by English history but less proficient in English. Seeing the text as well as hearing it would be beneficial. Just something to consider. Thank you for what you do!

Love the tour! Suggestion: it would be great to include a brief shot of the floor plan of the building if available. Those of us who love a good floor plan can pause to study it. (Although I guess I could Google it)

I am planning a visit this summer when it re-opens. Is it a place you can spend a full day or just a couple of hours? I am a few hours drive a way so may consider visiting other interesting historical houses nearby and make a weekend of it. Thanks for the video, subscribed.

Hello and thank you for subscribing to the channel! Pleased to hear you're considering visiting Acton Court this summer, it's a fascinating place brimming with history. In my opinion, you'll be able to comfortably view everything within a couple of hours (house, gardens, tea room!) As you're a few hours away, I agree that it would be worth while adding Acton to a list of interesting places to visit in the area. May I suggest Thornbury Castle? Anne Boleyn & Henry VIII stayed there for ten days during their 1535 Summer Progress before moving onto Iron Acton. It's a hotel now, but as far as i'm aware day visitors are allowed to walk around the gardens and stay for drinks if the bar area isn't booked out (may be worth checking with them before hand). Of course, both locations are a stones throw from Bristol, which is also filled with history. Have fun 👍
