Bad weather off the Nass river B.C. We have two barges, a 3500 ton log barge and a helicopter service barge loaded with jp fuel, about a 1000 tonner. When this came up we started to be drug backwards toward the beach. If you have not had this happen here it is. the stern starts to settle an the steering gets real light. The next move is either let go the line or lose control. I let towline go and with towline running off twin screwed the boat around and ran down wind past the tow, set a soft brake and took up the strain and recovered control. There was about a wrap and a half of wire left on the drum. Gave me the shakes... The Mate, Phil Russell mand the winch and did a great job of it. The two deckhands although a little awe did thier part. This was 19 years ago. I remember it still. :-)
