Better to live a life of glory and pass away in your 20s than to wither away into your 70s having done nothing but live with regret for these last 50 years
+Tanya Leavitt After my granddad's funeral, the sons and sons-in-law brought in good Irish whiskey. It was remarkably similar to my cousin's wedding where he and the groomsmen each had a bottle ;)
How is it there are so many iterations and variations of this song but only this one captures that sense of being merry with friends until it's time to for one to part ways. Brilliant.
Why can't I just have the song sung by this guy!? Every single band/person butchers the ever living shit out of it. They all put their shitty "flair" on it. This is how it's supposed to be sung.
I found Tullamore to be a down-to-earth kind of place. The distilleries, both old and new were a delight to visit. The Irish countryside reminded me so much of spots I've hiked in the Appalachians. I visited on my 30th wedding anniversary. We saw 7 rainbows on one day. I begin to understand many of their folk stories and cultural practices now.
I agree. I just searched the web looking for others. Looking for a full version of this one. No luck. My last name is Irish or Scottish, and though looking at me you would know why i bare the name. I surely admire other cultures.. no matter the things that happened between different humans in history. This is all our home. And with that i choose to love all forms of art. Including this beautiful song.
Východniarsky preklad: Ta šicke peňeži, co šem kedy mal s dobrýma ľudzmi šem prechľastal. A šické zlo, co šem kedy zrobil som nezrobil nikomu, ľen sobi. I co zrobil šem Taj še zašmejem Teraz sobi moc nespominam Tak mi naľejce kapurkovu Dobru noc a šcescí šickým vám.
Of all the money that e'er I had I've spent it in good company And all the harm that e'er I've done Alas it was to none but me And all I've done for want of wit To memory now I can't recall So fill to me the parting glass Good night and joy be with you all
If I had money, enough to spend and leisure time, to sit a while Their is a fair, maid in tis town tat sorely has my heart beguiled Her rosy cheeks, and ruby lips I own she has my heart beguiled So fill to me the parting glass goodnight and joy be wit you all ( I did not copy and paste this )
_"Better pass boldly into that other world, in the full glory of some passion, than fade and wither dismally with age."_ *James Joyce* Tullamore going Irish-true with this advert.
Dipan Patel Aaaaahhhhh! You're my hero! I searched for a couple months at the time and never found anything. But that was almost 2 years ago! Looks like it was leaked about a year ago? Thank you thank you thank you for linking me. I could kiss you!
I'm glad I made your day (possibly your month, or year, too?) This is what I live for. To make kind strangers happy and for them to want to kiss me in return. :D You're welcome.
My absolute favorite version of this song. Love when he tips his hat to make the water drop in his glass. Planning to pick up a bottle this week to give it a shot. I really wish they would release a full version of this one!
My parents played all of the Clancy Brothers albums from their issuance through the 90's. I first saw the Clancy Brothers in 1969 at age 11 as my Mother's date when Dad was out of town. This song is part of the fabric of my life. We all sang it at my brother's funeral. This is the best rendition of the song I have ever had the pleasure of hearing.
10 years late, yet I resonated with your story. I lost a family member 1 year ago today and I always find myself coming back to this song in memory of them. I hope you’re in good health and still able to raise a glass for your dearly departed. Cheers to the lost yet not forgotten! May we meet again someday.
I am sorry for you loss Erin. I recently took my father to our local pub for father's day and they had live music and they sang this song. My father is 95 years old he leaned over to me and said when it's his time to please play this version of the Parting Glass. This might be my last father's day with him.
He sounds like a great man. I can tell because I've read the words from a great woman. Remember the good of him and like any good husband, we want you to find happiness once again. Don't mourn us too much. It would only wind up hurting us. 🙏
@@ITFDAVE he was a great man and he showed me what it was like to be loved fully by a good man. We always said we would want the other to move on it in life but he set a high standard. It has been hard to find someone that would respect the fact I will still go to pray at his grave. Hopefully, one day I will and someone would notice I’m the kind of woman who would do the same for them. Thank you for your kind words, it means a lot in a world of harsh deeds.
@@richardgaray9979 I’m so sorry for that, but at the same time you can rejoice in his long life. What stories he would have of the adventures of old for him. I take care of the elderly for my profession and their stories give so much life to the history we can learn. I pray for you and your father.
TO THE PEOPLE OF IRELAND IRISHMEN AND IRISHWOMEN: In the name of God and of the dead generations from which she receives her old tradition of nationhood, Ireland, through us, summons her children to her flag and strikes for her freedom.
Having organised and trained her manhood through her secret revolutionary organisation, the Irish Republican Brotherhood, and through her open military organisations, the Irish Volunteers and the Irish Citizen Army, having patiently perfected her discipline, having resolutely waited for the right moment to reveal itself, she now seizes that moment, and supported by her exiled children in America and by gallant allies in Europe, but relying in the first on her own strength, she strikes in full confidence of victory.
Oh all the money that e'er I spent I spent it in good company And all the harm that e'er I've done Alas, it was to none but me And all I've done for want of wit To memory now I can't recall So fill to me the parting glass Good night and joy be with you all Oh all the comrades that e'er I've had Are sorry for my going away And all the sweethearts that e'er I've had Would wish me one more day to stay But since it falls unto my lot That I should rise and you should not I'll gently rise and I'll softly call Good night and joy be with you all Good night and joy be with you all
I don't even have a connection with Ireland or her traditions but this song combined with this advertisement is making me so happy and satisfied ! Awesome 😁!
Of all the money that e'er I spent I've spent it in good company And all the harm that ever I done Alas it was to none but me But since it hard soo to be it time to rise and time to fall come fill to me the parting glass Good night and joy be with you all Oh, all the comrades that e'er I had They're sorry for my going away And all the sweethearts that e'er I had They'd wish me one more day to stay And all I've done for want of wit To memory now I can't recall So fill to me the parting glass Good night and joy be with you all
Listen to The Parting Glass (hudba z reklamy Tullamore D.E.W.) by Tullamore D.E.W. CZ #np on #SoundCloud soundcloud.com/tullamore-d-e-w-cz/parting-glass-hudba-z-reklamy
Any time I've bought Tullamore Dew it has been because of this commercial. Never would have even thought of it otherwise, and I want to reward such good marketing
pretty new to drinking whiskey, but I feel like the bitterness and the sting can be fairly summed up in the parting of good company to maybe see them again someday. Well to wherever you are now I hope all is well with you and yours, I raise a glass to the times we had my friends
7 years and I still love that they just found out the actors could also sing. This is them singing in the church the bride comes out of because of the acoustics.
A good ad it's quickly becoming my favorite and good song it's sticking with me, i have seen about all the variations to this, and have enjoyed them all, thanks for the creation, of this ad, it's a very good one...
Just read Joyce’s the dead after first seeing this commercial about 4 years ago and immediately recognized this ad when Joyce says, “better pass boldly into that that other world, in the full glory of some passion, than fade and wither dismally with age.” Glasses up brothers
Such a creative Ad. Love the Parting Glass and there are lots of covers on RU-vid. Glen Hanssard, Ed Shearhan, the version from Waking Ned Devine, and a group from UCD which is my fave. The harmonies are ridiculously good, as is the lead tenor. All I could think of when they are sitting there in the rain is the video from Liam Clancy's interment, where it was also raining, and someone jokingly yelled out.."have yis no homes to go to? ".
2019 and still love this commercial, thank God I'm part Irish. If I ever pass away, this is one of my required songs for my funeral. Another one is "funeral" by Lukas Graham
Would that I could be so fortunate to see Our Mother Island someday. Brothers and sisters, may each of the Irish carry a part of it to whatever corner of the world they find themselves, as we are all beings hewn from the same lovely mossy stone... Also I find it suddenly obvious that I should have a suit to stroll in...
I literally just got back from the local store, and they have never even heard of it. I put it on the lost, hopefully I can enjoy this Irish Whisky soon. I'll tell you one thing, this commercial really made me want some whisky lololol Well done!
I kept thinking they'd lifted the video from Ken Loach's film "The Wind that Shakes the Barley" and photoshopped in the bottle of Tullamore Dew. Good job!
Greatest commercial, but i tried the whiskey and while it can be pleasant on the nose, the taste is one dimensional and it doesn't really happen much with it. I bet it will be good to blend it with something.
hey everyone who asked who's singing. this is Paul Reid. try looking for Laurence Dunmore's (the director of this short) works of 2013 via iMDb. you're welcome.
The best story for "parting glass" I e'r did see, and fine, clean singing. But I admit, the best singing is by the Face Vocal Band. watch?v=2Sql9X4H0VY I never can watch the one without wanting the other.
Liam O' Maonlai performing the song, you can find another version of him singing this on the "Waking Ned Devine" soundtrack that is well worth your time and money.
Wow I shed tears for all the people I've lost but also was inspired to be happy for the people I can still share a glass with that are here. Thanking my friend Broderick for showing me this. Available for download yet??
wiewiorpl ha ha ha. That's brilliantly naive. No, it's a 100% Irish song, traditionally sung at the wake of the departed, when Irish families gather around the dead body to have 'a parting glass' (a last drink) with the dead person before sending the departed onwards, to the afterlife. Beautiful Irish song.
Yes, this is an ancient Irish wake song. It is nothing to do with singing a song when someone leaves a pub. That is absolutely hilarious that you think that. Obviously you are not very good at deciphering songs or learning things. This song, even today, is sung traditionally at an Irish wake, over the body of the departed, so that everyone can have their last drink with the departed. It is a song that is supposedly 'sung' by the departed to his/her friends that he/she has left behind, thanking them for all their good times and wishing them well. It's a very touching song......if you could understand it.
