I’m just starting to make cups and I have to say I felt frustrated a few minutes ago because I made a glitter tumbler and after my second coat of Epoxy I felt the bumps. I didn’t know what I was doing wrong, but this video gave me some great advice that I will take into practice tomorrow, and hoping I can fix my cup. 😊 Thank you so much!💜

i am just starting out and had not seen this video yet. I have a tumbler with lumpy gllitter and a few bumps on the smooth areas. Sanding them is exactly what I did. The other problem was a small space that did not get covered with glitter. I sanded around it, applied modpodge, and added the glitter. It is drying now and when it is dried I'll put on the next coat of expoy. After all that I found your video and felt a whole lot better about the sanding, not sure yet about the glitter. Thank you so much!!

I have a tumbler that is beautiful except the epoxy didn't stick everywhere and there are places where you can see the "raw" cup where it didn't take. I prepped my cup by using alcohol and made sure that the epoxy was totally covering the cup. While it was turning, I saw this was happening and tried to add more epoxy to the "holes" and it just didn't work. I would appreciate any help with how to avoid this again and would love to see a video on this. Thank you for your time and for sharing your knowledge.

Thank you so much for this video. I was about to give up making tumblers because the bumps from epoxy were getting worse with every cup. I did what you showed us in this video and it looks great now. I try to avoid putting epoxy on more than once and do a thin coat. That’s not going to work especially with glitter.

Thank you for this video. You are the only person who said you need to use a finish on the cup before you apply expoxy. But I am still having a problem. I took a stainless steel cup and lightly sanded it and then washed it off and dried it. Did not touch the cup again without having a new pair of gloves on. then I put a spray coat of Rustoleum enamel paint on the cup, then let it dry, Wiped it again and put it on my cup turner using my gloves, then did an acrylic paint pour over the cup. I let it sit until all the paint was dry, then sprayed a coat of Rustoleum clear over it and let that dry. Mixed my expoxy for 4-5 mins. using a timer. Once the cup was dry I applied the expoxy with my hand and it was so pretty and smooth. I also torched it. But within 5 mins. or so the fisheyes start popping up. I am so tired of this and I don't know why it keeps happening. Can you help me? Send me an email.

I’m SUPER new to epoxy. So new I’m in middle of my first project & after the first coat, there were bumps all over. I’m doing pens, not cups, but I figured same rules apply. Thankfully I did sand after the first coat & wiped down with alcohol then did a 2nd coat. Then found this video 😆. I was just gonna throw it away but I decided to wait it through to see what happens after the 2nd coat. If I still have bumps, can I send again and do a 3rd layer of epoxy? I plan on trying again this weekend with another pen to see how it works & see if I can get it better, this set is just my test run.

Thank u so much for this video! I'm brand new to all this! And I'm so disappointed, I had a beautiful cup and the epoxy was uneven towards the bottom. For some reason my cups (I use the 30oz from Walmart) do not want to stay on the ball and stay level. They start out level and then eventually move the long it's on the turner. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong but it's disappointing 😔
@whatifnc5617

Daughter_of_the_King that is frustrating.. not sure if you can push the cup on your holder a little more.. or wrap the ball with a towel or something to make it tighter... that will help with making the cup level.. also don’t forget to ensure the table itself is level.. good luck!

"Level" on the top side or the bottom side? If it's level on top, it's slanted on the bottom, causing epoxy to run towards the base of the tumbler. Also, you showed us the tumbler with the epoxy lump on the base due to uneven tumbler on spinner, but you didn't mention how to correct it once that dry.

I have the opposite problem. Fisheyes in resined, alcohol ink tumblers. I’m prepping correctly- washing them well, then spraying with 91% alcohol and then spray painting with a flat or primer, allowing 24-48 hours to dry, then applying epoxy etc. How do I get the resin to stick on a second coat in those holes without sanding?
@whatifnc5617
@whatifnc5617 3 года назад
I have gotten fisheyes when I try to put in too thin of a coat of epoxy... it can also be from a fingerprint or contamination on the tumbler after you have completed the alcohol ink... I try to not touch the cup directly after finishing... use the turner handle or wear gloves... So to fill in those areas... you can just apply a drop of epoxy into the void/fisheye.. allowing it to stick to the epoxy around it... after it cures - then sand lightly and apply a coat over the entire tumbler... If you catch it while still curing the first time... put a small drop into the void then... I look for these types of imperfections after turning an hour or so... best of luck!

@whatifnc5617
@whatifnc5617 9 месяцев назад
Depends on how bad… If it is like letters… I have trimmed off the part sticking out and a light sand.. put new vinyl on to fix the lettering and another coat of epoxy…. To prevent in future… make sure vinyl is adhered really well on all edges… a few tips are 1) have a good surface to apply vinyl… I will put a thin coat of epoxy over painted or glitter surface first and stick vinyl on it.. 2) wait longer (several hours) after putting on vinyl before applying epoxy I have less issues.. Hope this helps!

@whatifnc5617

JenifferG 1974 a few questions....1j where is the turner at... I would check where you have the turner positioned... make sure you don’t have a fan or air register nearby that would blow directly on the cups... also a low traffic area helps.. 2). How are you applying the epoxy? Just making sure you are not using a brush of some kind that might produce lint 3). How long are you leaving it untouched before removing from turner? Make sure your epoxy is cured (not tacky in anyway). I have picked up lint or fingerprints by removing too soon.... for my setup and epoxy I leave at least 10 hours (overnight). Hope this helps!
@JenifferG-hc5yi
@JenifferG-hc5yi 4 года назад
It is about 4 feet away from the fan which is blowing away from the turner. I apply with a silicone brush or my fingers with nitrile gloves on. I leave it over night or a minimum of about 8 hours usually. Thank you for the tips. I will maybe try just leaving the fan off to see if that helps.

Hey there I’m new to this whole Tumblr thing crafting which I’m starting to enjoy. Thank you for the video I really appreciate it but I just have one question after you send it down what do you wipe it down with? Is it just regular wet paper towel or is there something special I should use? Thank you so much.
@whatifnc5617

It was a paper towel with some isopropyl alcohol

Thank you so much again for ur help! I have another question for u tho lol. If you make a glitter cup with chunky glitter on it and a lot of it keeps falling off can you apply mod Podge or something before putting epoxy on it to make sure it stays in place or just epoxy and see? Thanks again!!!
@whatifnc5617
@whatifnc5617 4 года назад
Yes you can use mod podge or there is a glitter spray adhesive in a can that can be sprayed over the cup prior to epoxy... or the multiple layers of epoxy... all of these methods work... just make sure your mod podge is really dry before the epoxy layer

So you didnt sand the whole cup ? Just problem areas right?
@whatifnc5617

Mainly the problem areas… you can do a very light sand of the entire cup as well

Great video thank you! Do you have any tips to avoid dust or little fibers from landing on tumblers while drying?
@whatifnc5617
@whatifnc5617 2 года назад
Hi! I would just ensure that there isn’t anything blowing air towards the cup turner… I,e, fan or vent. And place it in a room where there is no one moving around in the room…. Example - I tend to out my final coats on late in the day - so that they dry overnight while everyone is sleeping.
@justchrissy806
@justchrissy806 2 года назад
@@whatifnc5617 thank you very much! I actually always do them overnight and did think about the AC vents being one of the reasons I have issues. I ended up purchasing a large plastic storage box and it worked great last night ❤️

What do you do when your doing a chunky glitter and you sanded it down but it turned the glitter a white ???

What kind of glitter do you use? I've seen other videos and they stress using higher quality poly-glitter, not craft glitter. Good luck!

I have a problem with my vinyl lifting in corners once I apply the epoxy. How can I fix it?
@LifeHacksbyStacy
@LifeHacksbyStacy 3 года назад
If you are not using permanent vinyl you need to seal it. I seal mine either way because I don’t want to risk it lol I am fairly new but someone told me to seal with mod podge or clear spray paint.

Hey! Could you tell me what I’m doing wrong and what should I do if the epoxy won’t stay at the top of the cup around the rim?
@whatifnc5617
@whatifnc5617 2 года назад
Check the level of the cup on the turner and the machines level.. this happens when the cup is angled away from the rim.. it can be very slightly out of level

My cups keep coming out with wavy textures what am i doing wrong?? I was trying the glitter cups using fine glitter 😢😢😢
@whatifnc5617
@whatifnc5617 4 года назад
Dell Howard be careful with how long you are working on the cup.. if you work towards the end of the epoxying working period or if you apply heat after that period.. you can get wavy cups.. I try to get all my work done in 10-20 minutes... then leave the cup to level out... also check the level on the turner and the cup on the turner For glitter cups I always have to do an extra layer of epoxy to get a perfect finish... so I always plan on that

hi, so I am so new to tumblers but love making gifts for birthdays. Attempt went bad lol. I added just glitter and to many coats of epoxy now. So when I tried to sand I can't get to the lumps of glitter. Any suggestions, or do I have to trash this one?

Hello Your cups are beautiful and I’ve been wanting to try forever and just did but didn’t turn out so great so far lol so I was just wondering if you could help me. I just attempted to make my first glitter tumbler and I just put the first epoxy layer over the glitter last night and i now see that it did dry and it nice and clear but there are little hard round bumps literally all over it like the whole thing is super bumpy they look like teeny tiny little balls I wish I could show you its hard to explain and when I applied it last night there weren’t air bubbles all in it so what is causing this? I’d really appreciate it thank you so much!
@whatifnc5617
@whatifnc5617 4 года назад
Boogie Baga ... it is the glitter causing the bumps... any glitter that isn’t flat will cause lumps.. a light sand in a well ventilated area (be careful not to sand too far down as to remove your finish) then another coat of epoxy... i have had some chunky glitter cups that have taken 3 coats of resin to get smooth
@tsixxy
@tsixxy 4 года назад
Ok I’ll try that tonight! The bumps look like clear little balls under the epoxy so glitter can even cause that type of thing? I used the pink Spin it Brand glitter because it looked so pretty and I was so excited to try this I’ve been wanting to forever but ugh I’m not so good at it I guess lol. So sweet of you to get back to me tho I really appreciate it! Thank you so so so much for your help!!!

I wish there was a way to show you a picture it’s not lumpy at all it’s smooth with little hard clear raise ball type sticking up things all over it. Sry I’m trying to explain it it’s really hard to explain lol it almost looks like little tiny clear plastic balls or something fell all over it while it was drying ugh so hard to explain sry

How can I quit getting big bumps on my tumbler?
@whatifnc5617
@whatifnc5617 4 года назад
Kelly Hadley is the bump is around the entire cup toward the bottom or top... it is that your Turner/cup are not level.. if it is random bumps.. applying additional epoxy later in the drying process can also lead to bumps. Glitter cups tend to be bumpy on the first coat... I apply a thick 1st coat, that can be sanded smooth and then apply a second coat. Hope this answers your questions
@alynnelaino

If my bottom isnt flat after the second coat of epoxy can I heat it with a heat gun and flatten it or do I need to sand it?
@whatifnc5617
@whatifnc5617 4 года назад
Amanda Laino... sanding is the best option... heating cured epoxy doesn’t work... will affect adhesion to the cup and will not give results you are wanting
@rpeacej

I’ve epoxied a tumbler that I alcohol inked. Even though it seemed like an even coat of epoxy, as it dried it seemed to pull away in spots. When dried, it was all lumpy and bumpy even thought the tumbler itself is smooth. I tried doing this twice with the same result. Do you know what is causing this? Some of holes are quite large, 1/4” in size so I don’t think it would have been air bubbles?
@whatifnc5617
@whatifnc5617 4 года назад
I have found if I don’t apply enough epoxy I will get open areas... or it will pull away at the rim. Hope you were able to correct your creation!
