Some of them (Fell, Killer, Nightmare, etc.) are also uncharacteristically edgy and generally evil, which was quite strange for a character who really only gets mean when the player themselves becomes a villain. Much like the Once-lings, it feels like a similar warping of source material around the raw gravity of fandom desires.

God I want to forget

The Undertale fandom at it's peak was both a cursed and a blessed time. I really enjoyed reading the AU comics that were coming out about the characters. I did NOT enjoy the shipping fiasco.

All the characters in Undertale are great, but since sans fit the tumblr sexyman archetype so well, pretty much all of the attention the AUs got was directed towards sans (and I guess Papyrus too, by association). Other great characters like Undyne or Asgore usually got a new design or something but ultimately missed out on most of the attention. I’ll never regret being super into Undertale around it’s popularity peak, but man, do I ever know some stuff that I don’t need to.

Been there and done that, still follow the creator of error, fresh and i forgot but I think glitch sans...

Last I checked, this never ended and is still going on. And although I don't care for the shipping, I actually really like the different AUs.

Why do you feel the need to make fun of them? They were just having fun, what's wrong with this? Same with GF fandom. People going crazy and having fun.

I have a story, but not just any story, a story of shame. It was nearly the end of summer break when my cousin and I discovered this app called “Rabbit”. In this app you could invite other people with accounts to watch movies and videos together on the web such as, RU-vid, Tubi, Netflix, etc. Continuing the story, I invited him to a session and we decided to watch a movie or two before we moved onto RU-vid, (this is where the story gets shitty) and I had an amazing opportunity to play a joke on my cousin with the ability to search up anything in the search bar. And I absolutely wasted it. I decided to bring back the shittiest memories of MY LIFE. I searched up “Gravity Falls fanfic”. what came before us was a terrifying sight, (honestly I would have preferred dying over this) we saw siblings preforming sexual acts of incest, underage sex, and worst of all, a young boy making out with a sexualized yellow Dorito. The rest of the night continued with us making the same types of pranks on eachother and I also can’t get ANY of the images I saw that night out of my mind. Which is why I regret searching up those three fucking words that I will hate forever “Gravity Falls fanfic”. (also stop shipping the twins that is some mental shit you sick fucks)

I think Sans never quite hit the absurdity of Onceler-ism because Undertale was actually good and people liked it for reasons besides him. There were absolutely seas of totally unrecognizable AU and baffling sexualization, but the fandom was big enough to squirrel that stuff to the side and a constant stream of new fans meant that the whole hyper-insular incestuous attitude didn't really form.

I've seen tons of variations of Sans (some of them being completely removed of the character of Sans), all of them either shipped with: a)himself, b)his biological brother c)a small 9 year old child or d) a milf goat. The only character that I would consider more cursed than the onceler or sans would be the purple guy from FNA. He (when he gained popularity) was a "character" that (up to that point) no clear appearance, no dialogue, no personality. Nothing. And people still found him interesting enough to either ship themselves with him, ship an animatronic with him or ship him with himself...

Someone made a YT channel with the FNAF characters made as teens and ended making their OCs (although it's obviously still taking things from FNAF) and makes money of it, with copyrighted and stolen songs.

Kind of how I feel about Discord from My Little Pony. He shares a lot of characteristics with Bill Cipher (albeit, more kid-friendly with his reality-bending powers and being redeemable), but he didn’t meet the certain traits that might have made him Onceleresque. I think that had to with the negativity that was brought up in the MLP fandom and being an anthromorphic creature (cause it seems human looking characters were kind of the better attraction fans seem to latch to at the time) which didn’t really expose the character to a wider audience if you weren’t a fan to begin with. Cause with Bill, you did have a human persona of the character, and probably Bipper (which is pretty questionable now that it was a ship) even though he couldn’t be redeemable. Kind of why I see Sans as a nonhuman character that people can approach more comfortably to Oncelerify.

are you talking about rebornica's fnaf au and the controversy around that? also, i know a lot of people consider the humanized sexyboy characters of tumblr "oncelers" or "onceler-fied" but i think it's a totally different set of characters. the first one i ever saw was wheatley from portal 2, and portal 2 came out before the lorax. it's all connected anyway though.
