Beno I know what it feels like when I lift gets modernized but when I went on holiday I saw a antique lift with modern buttons but the doors and motor were original
I remember using that BHS lift many years ago, not much has really changed, I think it used to be quite slow before? I remembered that the first lift you filmed was the really bad one but the one after BHS was nearly the same as the bad one that was always out of order. Brings back memories a bit tbh.. I see this one isn't looking good anymore. The 9 floors lift, I remember, when they used to have the original green buttons, like you mentioned at the start of the video, again. They didn't always work like the others, so yeah basically, the old ones simply weren't feasible.
The "80s KONE buttons" you mention are the very famous KONE type M (or M-series). The doors on that lift are absolutely beautiful. Totally original KONE from that age, but they move slow so that could indicate the door motor has been replaced, and it isnt really possible to hear the sound from it. I think it is "wheelie" strange that you call the lift "80s" when they are from the early 90s as when the shopping center was built. The design is 80's yes, but it is the year of constr. that matters
Those numbers that look like old KONE-buttons. It´s M series and not 80'2 fixtures, The M fixtures were used for modernisations from 1989 to 2000. And by the way, why did you exclude a lift, and do you have a separate video on it?
Hmm, I grew up in Tunbridge Wells. I remember the old lift well. (The first one you rode) It was a near death trap! Many times, it was out of order, stuck and had scaffolding over it. This was back in 2005. They did change it but I'm sure I saw it go out of order after it's modernisation at least once My earliest dream I can remember involved it.
Ben, I think that fenwick's was an Otis or if installed around the same time might be an express Evans. I'm surprised they've used 21st Century and from the noises they don't sound so well.
Go to intu Victoria shopping centre and go to the market (level UM/1) and the is a sign for the public lift. It looks like a Otis gen2 prototype and it is a Otis.
benobve what is the clicking sound in the second lift and are lifts supposed to bounce slightly whilest going up or down cause the lifts in primark edinburgh sometimes do this and are really scary there stanna i think
Hmm, I just noticed that the first lift in this video happens to be the lift shown in the Lester Controls promotional video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aUaJGc34wUc.html, so at least we now know what controllers it uses.
Mattyeah101 Well spotted! Its a bit odd that in their promotional video they keep showing dewhurst buttons when talking about how wonderful they are. It could make people think that they make buttons as well as logic. I call Lester controllers "stupid beeping logic". When an old lift is modernized with their controls it almost always has more delays than it did originally. There logic is so annoying. I wonder if they always have the stupid beep.
***** They often play the"PLEASE MIND THE DOORS" voice before the doors close as well, although they aren't unique on that. I bet that lift used to have nice Kone M-series fixtures and controllers before. The car park lifts are interesting, as I was there a few weeks ago, and noticed that on some landings, they still have the classic Kone horn chimes, but I can't work out where it's coming from - usually the chime speaker is in the hall indicator, but all of those have been replaced.
What is that clanking sound when the second set of lifts pass each floor. Can you please do a video of the lifts at Princes Quay shopping centre in Hull they have two Otis glass lifts.
All shopping centers are in a bad state with coronavirus. I am not sure how things will go after it is over. High street shopping is slowly on the way out. In the future there will most likely be much fewer shopping centers, but the ones that survive will be massive. They will be the ones offering the shopping center experience, rather than for buying things. They will effectively be showrooms for things you can buy online. Certain big places that are fun to go to such as bluewater will continue to exist as people consider them a day out, but smaller places such as the pentagon center in Chatham is already failing and I have doubts if it will survive long term.
ALL, really all nice old 1980's KONE with M-Series buttons have modernized! DAMN, this lets me get very upset! Nice lift tour, but also very sad. They ruined the lifts here!
Entertaining tour! :) - I HATE Different floor numbering system - Just look at Stockholm Central today. One set do even have 2 floor numbering system - One on the buttons and one for the doors & Floor indicators! Wierd.
