I picked out a new tunebook from my vast stack of tunebooks this week (why do I even have so many tunebooks when I mostly learn by ear?!?). It's a good one too, "Contra Music of Québec" from the excellent Québécois contradance band Raz-de-Marée (Tidal Wave). It's a tunebook from their self-titled album from 2008. Great album too, we do play a lot of these tunes for contras! This tune, however, I think as written is just way too notey to be much fun at a contra. But it is a classic for sure: "Reel Américain" from Joseph Allard. The way they play it does make sense for contra, but it's a bit stripped back and more syncopated:
• Quadrille De Beauharno...
Unfortunately, looks like they sold out of this tunebook, but if you see them live they might have a copy!
