Feedback control for regeneration over a wide bandwidth is tough to accomplish without a mutual inductance coupling control. This is why most commercial receivers of the 20's utilized variocoupler control (not variometer - although variometer was used in TPTG regens such as the Adams Morgan Paragon). Differential Throttle comes next, and finally simple throttle capacitor in smoothness.
