@@stevenkambach agreed. There’s sets where the G is useless and sets where it’s relevant. I was fortunate not to actually need a 5 string and could get creative with two of my 4 strings. Still want a 5 string of course… but yeah, the pickups… I have Seymour quarts pounds and they’re good… but for that lower B I’m finding active would’ve been more…
Five string basses are meant to be tuned BEADG. Four string basses are meant to be tuned EADG. Just as with anything else, there are those who choose to go their own way, through jury-rigged alternatives. Theirs is usually the exception not the "rule," nor is it the intended parameter.
