I love your method of tuning drums! If I could add one step that you and all viewers should try, is when removing the heads to clean bearing edges. I wipe on a very small amount of beeswax around the bearing edges (fingers only) and that helps the head to float on the drum. T Y S.R.PURDY 🥁 GOD BLESS

That tilted logo is messing with my need for symmetry though Haha! Great tip on the moving blanket. I'm requesting future tips on seat height, kick pedal spring tension, and your theory on early exits or starting your fills early before landing on the one. Thank you in advance.
@@IslandDigital In situations where the kick mic stand won’t go low enough to extend the boom arm midway into the kick drum without clipping the top of the kick port, I’ll turn the reso head as I did in the video to get the desired mic placement. (I’ll talk more about my approach to drum mic’ing in another video). Also, since this kit doesn’t leave my studio and no one sees the logo when I’m playing, it doesn’t bother me if it’s slightly tilted. If I used this kit live or whenever the logos are displayed, then I would probably explore another solution to make sure the logos are straight (shorter boom stand, cutting my own kick port etc.) only if the same mic placement is used. It depends on the situation.
Seriously brother, no muffling is much better than you muffled it. The sound goes big,fat and also punchy. I just said but its all up to you. Because so many drummer nowadays too afraid to have open sound to theirs kick. Btw good luck brother👌🏻

Hey. Awesome. I just got my first reference kit! Just ordering all new heads for it! Any recommendations for heads that work well for these reference kits? Ive never had a kit with rounder/more mellow bearing edges so not sure. I usually like coated Emps, but worried they might be to mellow. Maybe clears would be better? What do you think? Also regarding kick tuning, how did you have your Batter tuned in this, like medium tension? Also in example one and two, how was your kick reso tuned in contrast to the batter? I find Im still struggling with kick tuning esp for recording. Thanks man!!!!
It's custom made by a friend of mine named Anthony King. They aren't available to the public just yet, but I would check out Solomon sub kicks. They are just as good.
I have a question: Whats the different between using 18in depth bass drum with much muffling instead of shallow depth as 12in - 14in depth? Thanks for the tuning video! I appreciate it!
To my knowledge, the more depth, the longer the note will take to decay (bigger, more boomy sound). A shallower depth will give you a quicker and more punchy sound.
No disrespect, but Rob beatdown Brown's method is much easier and sounds great without any muffling. He says to never put anything inside of the drum. laundry doesn't belong in your drum set.
That’s not the purpose of this video. I’m sharing the method that I use. At the end of the day, there’s no right or wrong way to do this. Do what’s best for you in order to get the sound that you want to hear.
