I literally never comment on youtube videos but I have to. What an incredibly talented teacher and musician! This page seems to fill every gap the rest of the music production learning channels leave. Thank you for making these videos.

I usually remain a silent viewer on RU-vid, but I'm compelled to break that silence today. The depth of talent and passion you exude not just as a musician but as an educator is nothing short of profound. Your channel effortlessly bridges the voids that so many other music production tutorials overlook. My gratitude for your dedication to sharing your knowledge runs deep. As someone who immerses themselves in the world of deep house, the insights you've provided have revolutionized my approach. Your content isn't just good; it's transcendent. It's evident that you teach and guide from a wellspring of lived experience. The multitude of voices singing your praises on your channel is a testament to your expertise and the impact you make. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for crafting these invaluable lessons.

This is amazing way to understand WHY and WHEN to pick a kick drum that has a pitch. Please continue making content.

At last something that makes sense! Could never understand why ppl were "tuning" transient pitch sweeps. Drones, yes.

yeah deep house can use pretty much anything non-pitched as long it aesthetically matches the mood of course. I have a deep house example in the next vid coming up.

Great video as always! I always wondered if the kick drum followed by a "key" letter actually meant it was in that key.

Thank you so much for this video, really well explained. I come from radio engineering background and it helps me get the technical understanding of it. As well, it is really abstracted to the level of a person that has no background in signals and systems. When describing some plugins providing a spectrogram, it is actually not a complicated feature to do, and indeed very powerful. I am wondering if ableton would provide this in the future natively.
@Bthelick
@Bthelick 10 месяцев назад
My video last week was basically me complaining about 1 dimensional metering in audio applications, I wish more programs would include a spectrogram. I had to use izotope's RX program for this spectrogram, not cheap!

I'm addicted to your videos, my mind is blown on this. I was wondering why the tuner in ableton never works for me 😂 I take it from this dnb you don't really tune the kick???
@Bthelick
@Bthelick 6 месяцев назад
Never , Not the modern style anyway. (Old school jungle with those kinds melodic 808 lines yes) It's even less important in dnb as the kick usually sits higher in frequency than the sub, which is backwards compared to house/techno/trance etc.
@Massivecarcrash
@Massivecarcrash 10 месяцев назад
I think the "Tune your kicks" thing came about either from the Big Room craze back in 2012 when every 10 year old pirated FL studios and couldnt understand why their low end sounded like a out of tune hot mess, then they were told they needed to tune their 808'ish kicks and then thought this applied to all kicks.
@Bthelick
@Bthelick 10 месяцев назад
Haha that's entirely possible yeah 🤔
@mrmick2878

What level is your kick when you start production? i noticed that you keep all tracks at quite high volume levels and your master track clips a lot. Either way your mixes sound great!
@Bthelick
@Bthelick Год назад
It's the same answer is to every problem; Reference, Reference, and Reference some more! I just make the track at 'master' level, same as the reference. So any problems become quickly apparent. Then I can just release as is without mastering. High track levels are irrelevant in 32bit float audio engines.
