YOU can get a fat sound by tuning the reso head lower as well. It really depends how you want the drum to project. High reso tuning projects upwards. Low reso tuning projects outwards. The KEY to a punchy sound is the discrepancy between tensions. One has to be much looser than the other. The added resonance of a tighter bottom head will engage more snares, producing more of a crack, and the shorter sustain of a looser bottom head will produce more of a rounded shell sound, or 'pop'. Other factors include drum depth and snare strand width.

The last time I used taped on my snares resonance head and then try to remove it later attention was too much and it ripped the head at the edge. I think it was a Remo head, maybe it was already torn. But that method works great maybe the tape I used was just too sticky. But I'm watching your video now friend and thank you

I watch the next video. However, the problem I have is getting the correct torque or tightness on the better head for a better sound without affecting the bounce of my drumsticks? I hope you resolve this in your next video. Sweetwater demonstrated the way to get both The phat Sound and keeping the tightness for a good bounce of the drumstick. Let's see if you have that in your next video. Thank you very much sir

I concur with your tuning technique. I have always done it pretty much the same way, except often I will loosen the two (2) lugs (on each side) which are closest to the snare wire beds (by about 3/4 of a rotation each), plus I don't dampen the resonant head. But, I play a lot of jazz/funk fusion so I like a bit more snare buzz in my sound. Your fat snare sounds good and meaty, man! Peace & love.

I really would have liked to hear it in the room that you're speaking in, rather than via close micing or processed. Not to dog you, but it's not really a representative sound if it's going through compression or noise gating or a mic in general. Hearing it from where the mic is located as you're speaking would have given us a better example of the sound.

Hey there... I have a major problem and I'm hoping you can help. My snare wire doesent sit on the resonance head when the head is tightened table top tight, the wire is at least 1mm over the resonance head parallely not touching the head at any point. Alternatively it touches when tension rods near the throw off and butt plate are detune. Can you tell me why this happens and what should I be doing to correct this....
