Oooo … you are sooo good! I’ve had a set of Bamboo Tunisian Hooks for a good 30+ years and never had the courage to try it! I’ve done many different crafts during my 80 years but, never have I seen such a good teacher for Needle crafts! I’ve always done knitting and simple crochet and now age is catching me up, I thought I would enjoy more leisurely projects and watched a few YT Tutorials. Most of them go too fast, working too fast for us slowbees, but you have beaten ‘em all in popularity! I just bought your book, rooted out the bamboo pins, got mi’ yarn so ……. ready when you are, lovely lady!

I have long known how to crochet since I was a young boy, and I have been casually learning to knit over the past few years, but I have never yet tackled Tunisian crochet. When I came across your channel a few days ago, and was so enthralled with your enthusiasm, that I could no longer resist! I subscribed to your channel and ordered a set of corded hooks, which should be here tomorrow. I am so excited! They aren't the beauties that you are using in this video, as I would like, but they will do the job well until I can upgrade with a better set. I am a stickler for having the right tool for the job, and the ones that please me, too! I am so excited to be expanding my skills with you and your content! 🤩🥰

Yeah, another stitch to put in my toolbox. I'm envisioning making a two-tone basket using this basketweave stitch. The yarns would be bulky or 2 strands. One tone for the knit stitches, while the other is slightly lighter or darker in tone for the reverse stitch. I've used the mosaic technique before wirh tunisian stitches. Yes, there would be more "balls" of yarn. It is cleaner and not so hard to do. Once you get the hand of it. When switching colors, tuck the current leading yarn under the yarn. By tucking as you go, the process is easier and a lot less stress. I've discovered that if you set up an assembly line system, you will stay tangle free. I gerryrigged a box with dividers for each ball of yarn. The box contains the project. When done for the day, secure your last stitch, place the project in the box, and put said project away until another day. Happy making 😊

My squares always had two good sides and the other two were rounded 🙄🙄🙄 Being left handed didn’t help either I’m sure. Your explanations are so clear, simple and precise! I may try to tackle it again with this type of crochet. Thank you so much for sharing!

I just used my QZLKNIT hooks for this and I can tell you, they are awesome! The metal is so smooth the project just glides back and forth plus, the very pointed end makes the back loop stitches so easy to do! I'll probably buy another set to do Tunisian in the round. They come in gold now too (more expensive) and you can also buy additional cables from the seller. 😊
@Desaundrea
@Desaundrea 3 месяца назад
@@drumroady1 I got my set this week on Wednesday. I did my unboxing video first, and was about to upload it when something said” Take a better look.” And I did. I found that the tips on 4 hooks were either chipped or never got plated in the nickel. And the 10mm, the middle section, never go moved to the polishing station. It still has machine marks I can feel 😒 I notified QZLKNIT and they have already mailed my replacements for the 5 hooks. Meanwhile, I started my son’s Star Trek: TNG Commander Away jacket. I’m using the 7mm, and in Toni’s words: “ HONEEY!👍🏽” 😂. I love them even though they are damaged, but on the up side I now will have 5 extra hooks to use as double wired 💯😊

Are you using a regular crochet hook?
@susanrussell8195
@susanrussell8195 3 месяца назад
She isn’t. If you watch carefully, you can sometimes see the end of the hook. You might think it’s a thin, green bracelet on her right wrist but it is actually a cord attached to the Tunisian hook. The method of attaching flexible cords to like it is done with knitting needles has been adapted to Tunisian hooks. Hope this helps.
@SuzanneWho
@SuzanneWho 3 месяца назад
Melody, as Susan said, it is a corded hook. That way you can make the item as big as you want since the stitches slip onto the cord. All your stitches wouldn’t fit on a regular hook. 😎
@drumroady1
@drumroady1 3 месяца назад
There are Tunisian projects you can do with a regular crochet hook. I'm currently working on an Tunisian Entrelac afghan that I started with a regular hook. I ended up buying a set of Tunisian hooks with interchangeable cables so I can do bigger projects. BUT, I can say that regular hooks aren't designed the same as Tunisian. Tunisian hooks are more pointed with a deeper cut behind the hook which makes it much easier to work with. You can absolutely learn with a regular hook to see if you like Tunisian and want to spend the money on new hooks.
@susanrussell8195
@susanrussell8195 3 месяца назад
@@drumroady1 Exactly. Like this sample could have been done on a regular crochet hook because it is so small. When I first started doing Tunisian crochet (Afghan crochet) back in the early 80’s, they didn’t have the corded hook. The larger afghans were squares or rectangles sewn together to make the size desired.
