Always moved to tears... the last scene... a hymn to love. I think if I was to see but one opera in my life, in person, I would chose Turandot. Even more than Aida or Don Giovanni ... Tears run down my face every time I watch it. Such joy!
It's a bit like me crying like a kid at the end of La Bohème in the middle of the SFO House incapable of stopping and people wondering what the heck was wrong with me...
I did too in Verona when I was 12. I went on a camping trip with my mom and her friends and we went to see Turandot . I was bored at first but soon enthralled with their singing … the best performance I have ever seen from anyone ever !
+David Lounsberry You're in luck. Metropolitan Opera in HD is playing the live performance of Turandot in theaters IMAX. Check out theaters near you. Turandot will be playing live in HD thetaers nationwide on January 30, 2016. Just got myself tickets. Ticket is about 26 bux. Good luck
I had the opportunity to watch this with my mother. I thank my mother who was raised in Estonia and taught me the love of classical music. I did the same with my children and from a second marriage we had a daughter. When she turned three I did the same. I put together a CD with my favorite classical music. After four years of it she wanted me to stop. But what a thrill when I played this in my car she shouted out, “Puccini Dot!” I was almost in tears. She is now a freshman in college.
Possibly, but his ongoing attempts over several years to complete Turandot were futile. The happy ending he envisioned for the Princess and Calef came too quickly after the death of Liu. My speculation is that the ending was at odds with his personal life, the full details of which did not become available until the 21st century.
That's always up for debate. But I don't think anyone will question your personal taste of picking Puccini over Verdi, Rossini, or even Mozart. I watched it live for the first time yesterday's and its fair to say that it's unlike anything I've ever experienced, despite being familiar with the music.
The Best stage performance, nicely done , great opera. I was proud to be part of it when i was eleven years old, in the chikdren Choir, i used to be in the Colon Theatre in Buenos Aires in 1971.
magnifique !
I saw this at movie theaters - the Fathom Events Live in HD - it was great. Obviously I liked it enough to come look it up on RU-vid! I love everyone singing at the end, it's beautiful.

Sin saber yo italiano, cuando descubrí Nessum Forma, me conmovió... Pero cuando pude escuchar Turandot hasta el final tiempo después en un momento esperanzado de mi juventud, las lágrimas de felicidad me embargaron y me enanoraron
@crespogod09 i also was in my teens when I discovered the opera, and now at 38, still hooked. There is absolutely nothing wrong with appreciating a wonderfull form of art as opera is.... When you can apperciate music like this, you will find out that you will start listnening to all other music in different perspective.
