This is a video about Turbat City, the vibrant administrative center of Kech district and the former capital of Makran state. As the second-largest city in Balochistan, Turbat boasts a rich history and cultural significance.
Join us on a journey to explore this remarkable city and its unique attractions. Turbat, often referred to as the "Land of Lovers," has a rich history dating back to the 12th century when it was part of Prince Punnu's empire.
This place is steeped in folklore, notably the legendary tale of Sassi Punnu, with Sassi being a prominent figure in the story. Just 15 kilometers from Turbat, you'll find the fascinating Sassi Punnu Fort, also known as Meri Qalat.
This ancient fort, rumored to have been built between 6000 and 8000 BC, has witnessed the rule of various dynasties, including Mughals, Mongols, and Arabs. The fort's construction, a blend of stone and mud, showcases the architectural prowess of its time.
Turbat's economy thrives on agriculture and fishing, with fishing playing a pivotal role. Located along the Arabian Sea coast, Turbat serves as a significant fishing hub, complete with a bustling fish market.
Additionally, the Mirani Dam, situated in the Kech district, serves as an essential water reservoir, facilitating year-round irrigation.
During our visit to Turbat, we had the privilege of meeting Mir Wasto, a skilled craftsman. His artistry in crafting products from palm leaves reflects a tradition deeply rooted in Baloch culture. These artisans, primarily located in hilly regions, especially women who make up 80% of the workforce, create an array of items, including slippers, baskets, and ropes, each transitioning from green to their distinct color after sun exposure.
Turbat is also home to the sacred Koh Murad shrine, a place of worship for Zikri sect followers. This shrine plays a vital role in the lives of the local people and is particularly significant on the 27th of Ramadan. Notably, the Zikri sect has a prominent presence in Turbat's business landscape, adding to the city's unique cultural tapestry.
Our visit to Turbat was a captivating experience, offering a glimpse into its historical treasures, thriving fishing industry, and the artistry of its skilled craftsmen.
