In this video, we test $44 replica/fake/copy Amazon ARP head studs.
We test the fitment and test how high they can be torqued before failing or stretching. this is for the 14.5mm studs Honda D16Y8 motor, however the 16.5mm studs die the D16Z6 should hold the exact same power or torque before failing.

In my experience, repeat HG failures on a boosted single cam are almost always related to ignition timing. You shouldn’t be repeatedly blowing a HG, even on stock hardware. Instead of retarding the distributor, take the boost portion of your timing map and cut all the values by half until you can get a professional to tune it.
@RisingBoostYT
@RisingBoostYT Год назад
Hi Shawn, thanks for the advice, I was thinking the same thing. car had no issues before on a non-vtec D15 at 7psi. the new build increase the compression ratio from 9.2 to 9.7 and I think now the high comp and ignition timing is definitely the issue. I did actually pull timing on the map like you said. thanks for sharing!

I know 4g63 blocks can sometimes warp when you run bigger studs and torque which lead to bad sealing and gasket problems so not sure if that's the same problem here.

I caught my mechanic messing up my engine on purpose... walked in on him saw it with my own eyes! I figured out and fixed most of them... maybe all of them! 1 thing is, he tried to convince me my head gasket was blown Last year March. So that's almost 1 1/2 years. I took it to 3 other mechanics and they couldn't figure out anything wrong. They all insisted I had a strong engine and nothing is wrong that he was messing with me! And I've been driving my car since with no problems at all. MPG is back up, smooth running, full Power! 1 of the many things he did was loosen all the valve cover bolts, almost finger loose, and fluid started leaking... I did fix that... However I wonder if possibly he could have loosened some of the head bolts by taking off the valve cover. I am sure he didn't take anything else off because that would have been way to much work... #1 If he did do this, since the car is running better than it's ran in years and never over heated, can we just replace the head gasket? Or do we have to have it shaved down? It has never overheated or anything like that. Runs perfectly with full power. I had another mechanic 7 years ago rebuild the engine and it runs great! #2 Is it possible we can just tighten the bolts back down? (I mean the one's he might have had access to with just taking off the valve cover. ) Another mechanic said it's possible to get to 2 head bolts from taking off the valve cover.... and said we would have to take off the head to tighten them all down in in the patterned way... I was hoping if he did do this we could just get to the bolts he might have loosened and just tighten them down to spec. without having to take the whole thing off and tighten them all. Honda Del Sol D15B7
@RisingBoostYT
@RisingBoostYT Год назад
Hi Mike, sorry to hear that, some mechanics can be untrustworthy. the D15B7 you have access to all the head bolts once the valve cover is removed. you can just replace a head gasket if the car did not overheat, if the head or block is not warped it will work, if it is warped the gasket will likely fail again. if you fear that he loosened the head studs you can just retorque them, that will show you if he did that. however if the gasket failed already it will likely need to be replaced. but if your gasket is not currently a problem you should have no problems just re-torquing them.

nice upgrade I mean a “stud” vs bolt is a lot better when we think about it tightening the head bolt (factory) you pull the thread by way of tightening the head down With a stud it does the same but not as much because you clamp down the head with the actual nut vs stressing the block thread by tightening… Locally I’ve seen crazy peeps machine their own out of stock head bolts so these copy seems alright I mean maybe until u start pushing 4bar then an L19 stud is needed Much needed upgrade here this one is good
@RisingBoostYT
@RisingBoostYT Год назад
Hi SRD, yes they are better in that way, less chance of stripping out your block. they do hold more power over stock, but for big power, 1 bar + I would still recommend getting the real stuff. my testing show they hold 50% more power, but I am still testing them. it may have been something else causing my issues.

Great clean work... Checking block and head straightness is always good practice...I personally would of used the longer studs where needed with the extra washer, instead of loosing threads out of the block.... Is that a multi - layer steel shim type gasket ???.. Look up Cometic brand.. those Studs are PQY brand, yes there have been test done,way better than Standard, a bit under ARP 8740 Studs.. PQY approx 165,000 psi..8740 175,000 psi..STD bolts were approx 140,000 psi. its said torque PQY studs the same as ARP, ARP lube is always the best.. test have been done indepentantly..to achieve best correct torque.. glad they work for you....

Hi Colster, thanks for the info, in the end what fixed my issue for blowing headgaskets was getting a thick gasket from the EG motor, the "paper" style gasket, I assume my compression was to high for the pump feul, as it blew again on the dyno, but i have not hand an issue since installing the (cheap) thick headgasket. The fake arps did help as it only blew at 170hp instead of 120hp.

Hello, which screws do u have to lock the head cover on the head? Because i have the original ones.. and 2 of them broke off and one is even in the head. :( I dont really know to get it out. I think i bore it out. But i want to use other screws then.. the original ones are soft like butter. (im speaking about the valve cover)
@RisingBoostYT
@RisingBoostYT Год назад
Hi, you can buy the ones I have from Amazon - amzn.to/3Q7QuI2 , I had to get 2 longer bolts just be be safe but the kits are not always the same. to get the broken bolts out try getting a small "easyout" and a small drill, it's a bit safer then just drilling it out. you can also try to make a grove in the broken off part using a small flat screwdriver and hammer so you can turn it out like a screw. worst case is to drill it our and retap for an insert, just don't get metal shavings into the motor.

Hi Ricardo, because this is a stock build, a block guard is not necessary as the headstuds and rods will fail long before the block/sleeves will, the stock block is fairly strong.

Hi Arthur, this is actually a difficult one to know, it's an older engine but it has the P08 head, my guess is that it is the long studs but I cannot confirm that. is this motor from an EG? is the dipstick between the exhaust runners or by the cam belt?

It sounds like the older motor, they normally use the long studs, but I can not be 100% sure, best is to pull out a stud and check the length. looking at the specs it seems like a version of the Z6. what is the part number on the block? its normally on the block at the back where the trans and block meetup. if it is PO8 like your cylinder head then it is the long studs.
