After the 12th anniversary episode, I decided to start from the beginning and watch every episode. I love seeing your comparison shots and it was cool to see here again.
I use to work for Stone Age Gamer and I remember making these was a pain in the butt lol… we used a specific kind of spray paint back then and it was all hand painted. Glad it seems they streamlined things!
I've owned a Turbografx 16 for probably almost a decade at this point but I've never actually played it because I've just never found any games for it out and about... I think I should finally get one of these
Hi Joe! I just got back from Japan yesterday. Got so many cool pickups including an Apple Pippin, PC-FX, and front loading Neo Geo CD. Thanks for all the hard work for so many years!
For the price I feel like there are too many issues that require workarounds/mods or just don't work. I'd just put that money towards a Mister personally.
Looks very cool!!! BTW - Running SuperGrafx mode in the Terra Onion expansion on a real SuperGrafx with SuperGrafx enabled (turned on rather than off on the SuperGrafx) could cause a hardware fault I think.. The very fact the grahics get messed up there makes me think there could be a bus conflict somewhere.
Sounds like a conflict of the "Grafx's" so to speak. Since the Super HD device has FPGA implementation of the SuperGrafx already it is bumping heads with the actual SuperGrafx additional hardware in the real console. I don't own a Super HD System 3 device but it would seem an easy fix would be to allow disabling of the FPGA SuperGrafx implementation either via a menu option or perhaps an alternate firmware download from the developer that removes SuperGrafx support from the device for real Supergrafx owners. The latter is probably a better and safe option. We do this for video cards (I work for a video card manufacturer) where we create custom VBIOS to remove sound support from a video card for example for clients so that the audio portion does not cause conflict with the client's custom hardware. So, essentially an update flash that removes SGX support from the device turning it into a Super HD System 3 with support for all but SGX. I cannot see a reason why that cannot be done. I own a SuperGrafx (and I love this machine) and I own a Super SD System 3. This is currently the best combo for SuperGrafx owners as the SD version (previous model) does not have the SGX FPGA implementation therefore it works fine in a real SGX with games. But like I said, I think this can easily be fixed in the new HD model should the developer want to do so for us few SGX owners ;) If that option were to exist I would probably upgrade for some of the new features such as HDMI and the reset button. But as the SuperGrafx is my only console and I do not relish in turning off the real SGX hardware via the compatibility switch in order to play the FPGA'd SGX on the device I will not upgrade at this point in time.
Looking forward to this. Never tried the system or it’s Library before. Hopefully the team that works on the Grafx booster adds the mod in future revisions.
As a new PC Engine owner, honestly any PCE owner should be pretty familiar with the soldering iron these days lol Between recaps and corrosion repair it takes an enthusiast to keep these things running
TurboGrafx is an even 10 letters which looks good spaced out on two rows of 5 letters each. Just like Sega's famous 90s ad campaign "WELCO METOT HENEXT LEVEL” which just rolls off the tongue!
*HENEX TLEVEL General silliness of the ad aside, it has always bothered me that they crammed six letters into the bottom row. Could they not have just used a different layout, like 7x3?
@@3dmarth it looked silly at their arcade in vegas, it read "welco metov irtua land ". Yes, with a space at the end of the last line. On a giant neon sign.
Wow, that squish noise you used for inserting that peripheral was really uncomfortable. I kept expecting bent pins afterward. That thing needs a proper connector. Anyway. This device isn't ready for prime time, judging from this review. Yes, some of this can be addressed with firmware updates, but all of it? Including the buzzing SD card?
I'm loving mine, and after selling my previous 2.5 ver, ended up not being much more than finding an Arcade card for my Duo-R, plus may pick up a regular PCE at some point, so having option to play cd games that way once Krikzz releases his expansion module, or db or others modify theirs for the pro.
sou do brasil e o unico jogo que joguei desse video game maravilhoso foi o Rondo of Blood! por aqui não chegou esse video game.. pelomenos não por onde eu moro ! adoro o canal! conheço muitos jogos incriveis por aqui! Obg!
@8:25 I’m getting CD sound glitches when running this on my RGB bypassed (Genesis 2 8-pin DIN) TG16. I can somewhat hear some sounds if I blast the speakers to full. Hucard sounds work but I also hear strange static. This further proves the fact that the TG16 has a strange mixing circuit that the PCE variants do not have.
I find it odd that the new ED Plus doesn't produce any sound from even standard HuCard game roms when playing through the TG16's default RF output. This wasn't the case with the previous Turbo EverDrive, correct? I guess Krikzz assumes no one will be using RF output in 2023. But still.. There should maybe be a disclaimer.
The Turbo Booster would definitely need to be modded for stereo audio. Nothing will work natively with stereo audio except for the external board Krikzz will offer called The EverDrive FX.
Not quite ready for prime time IMO. I'll wait for the final version when the audio is all sorted out. It's too expensive to require used mods just to get sound to play.
I won't be getting this. I'm perfectly happy with my SSDS3 (not pro) running through a RetroTink 5X. Stereo audio, CD games work great. No save states, but I also have a Retro Freak clone console that will play Hu Card games and allows save states, so if I need to practice a sticking point in Tatsujin without having to go back to a checkpoint, I'll play it there.
So this does not support supergrafx rom loading on a normal PCE or TB16 console? You need Supergrafx hardware to load it's roms with this? I see Terraonions's SSSD3 Pro supports Supergrafx roms on normal PCE and TB16 consoles and that is a big feature imo even if there are like 5 supergrafx games.
Anyone up for starting a gofundme or kickstarter so we can research immortality for Joe, that way we need never worry about his demise and could guarantee ourselves a new episode each week. We could also look into cloning Joe if it turns out to be cheaper. Thanks again for the quality vids, Joe... or Joe 3000 if you're reading this in the future and we went the cloning route.
Hi, I have a special question. I have a rare Turbografx Pal, it comes with a standard av like the mega drive 1. What do yout think will it work with the Pal one as well?
I wish Krikzz just released a version that uses the expansion port, similar to the SSDS3. I don't see much of a reason to release two separate devices (the TED Pro and the EDFX stereo board) when they could have been consolidated into one unit from the beginning. Almost every PC Engine console has the expansion port, with the most notable exception being the Duo consoles, and you can't play CD games on those with this cartridge anyway.
I'm torn on the "flashiness" of menus, I don't care but when friends visit I like for them to see boxarts and descriptions, sometimes they remember a game from their youth seeing a random boxart.
If you beat a game using a flash cart then you by no stretch of the imagination beat the game. It only counts if you play it on the original cartridge/card/CD that came out back in the day! Of course I am just kidding but believe it or not there are actually people out there that think nonsense like that.
@@GameSack no i never got it from the navy. my stuff was "lost" funny 30 years later my mom gets notified they found my stuff. i know the good stuff isnt there so im not even going to bother.
@@GameSack CHDMAN is a software distributed with MAME, developed by someone from the mame team, that compresses bin/cue files to a compressed lossless image. You basically throw CHDMAN in a folder with a bunch of bin/cue files, run the software with one click, and it auto converts every disc into its own compressed image file. Most emulator cores in retroarch have basically switched over to this format from bin/cue and ISO.
@@ZorakTheGreat Thanks for the info. If it's compressed it will not work. I've never seen a flash cart able to work with compressed images because they need to be decompressed on the fly, which the console itself isn't powerful enough to do and still run the game. It's 2023 though and storage is cheap. No need for such compression any more, really.
Well it's all good, the more the merrier, Turbo Chips aren't exactly affordable anymore, not that they ever were for completionists heh. I think Krikzz was probably just anxious to get the product out there quickly, ironing out most of the kinks later with firmware updates, he rarely makes hardware without recovery measures built in. Sure are a lot of quirks no matter what you go with but I'll have to settle on one eventually since I've given up on physical collecting for the TG-16, much like Sega CD it's become too expensive and stressful Ie. "Can I even play these games or should I seal them in an acrylic box?".😆
Awesome video Joe I'm glad you gave your point I will definitely wait until those things you mention are fixed and especially since I have a turbo duo I'll wait until it's added
Wow, you got yours pretty quickly, I got my shipping notification forever ago and it still says it'll be about 10 days after April 18th. Nice overview, I'm curious to see Krikzz' adapter, his offshoot products are interesting like the Sega Krikzz controller. I've been ordering all the Everdrives I still need recently, even though I don't have all the consoles. Gotta get them while u can, I only got a Turbo Everdrive Pro by chance, casually browsing the site and seeing the new product. It's frustrating because you need a computer to use them(and all my Analogue consoles I haven't opened yet), and I don't have a PC right now. I'm disabled and it's really hard to focus on getting a PC and doing all this when you're so sick all the time. The ones I got recently were the Turbo Pro, Neo Geo Pocket Color Game Drive, NES N8 Pro, and the GBA Mini Everdrive. I don't have a NeoGeo Pocket Color yet or a Turbografx, but I really want to get all these Everdrives up and running so I can relax and play all these games while I'm sick. Anybody with a great recommendation for a laptop that isn't insanely expensive would be awesome. I don't wanna run AAA games on it, maybe just some random Steam indie exclusives, and load up my Everdrives, back up phones, nothing too crazy. But I don't want a piece of total junk either. Last time I looked, I thought maybe a mid-tier HP laptop might be for me? Again, any PC heads out there with a solid recommendation would be super appreciated, even just telling me what to look for like i3 versus i5 and i7, etc.
IT’S FIXED! Sweet baby Jesus it’s fixed with the new firmware. Sounds totally fine to my ears now. I am so stoked! :) im probably way happier than I should be hahah
I bought one of these and can’t get the CD audio loud enough. I’m using a TG-16 and a hyperkin AV adapter. Tried all the settings and nothing makes a difference
Just wanna say, been watching a few years now since some major events in my life... and while I'll understand if you have to stop doing this day, I'm thankful for how you still put effort into this channel
As someone who only owns a TurboGrafx-16 and EverDrive ver. 2.5, I'm still very happy exploring the HuCard library for the time being. Once Krikzz releases that stereo adapter I may consider upgrading, especially if I decide to add some Japanese PC Engine systems to the collection. That, and I'm gonna hold out on more firmware updates and fixes for the few compatibility issues left to iron out.
I was on the fence, but now I think I'll wait for either an update or a new device. Sucks that there's still no one all-in-one solution. Hopefully analog comes through soon!
