They basically took a Solar T-62 APU single stage centrif turbine, removed the mechanical fuel controller, and added an automotive-style PWM fuel injection system. They claimed the PWM system would increase fuel economy to make the engine burn 7 GPH per 100 HP being developed. This claim was not proven. They would not stick the engine on a simple dyno and fuel flow meter to prove their claim. They made a few engines starting at 160HP, 200, 230, and said they would have a 400HP version. What was interesting is the fact that the 160-230 HP engines were identical except for the amount of fuel flowing into them. The original Solar T-62 was rated at 150 HP. There is no way whatsoever they would have got to the 7 GPH per 100HP. The Solar T-62 used 23GPH making 150 HP and that works out to roughly 1.10 BSFC which is correct for a single stage centrif compressor. Until you get to multi-stage axial flow turbines you will not get below 1.0 and the best you will get is roughly .65 which is still 20% more fuel burn than a recip engine. Their claims of PWM making the engine more efficient was just fluff. PWM helps in a car engine where you require precisely metered fuel into an individual cylinder. With a turbine engine PWM does not help at all as you have a 400% atomization effect from the turbine itsel
I was reading some of the comments from people can be stupid they have no idea what it takes to get it to the point where it's ready to install in a aircraft nice job.i have a tyranny engine that I am in the stage of getting it running right now it is controlled by an electric stater it's not good enough time am gonna try to fit a injunction pump to its and then move on from there Thanks Danny ps great job
thank mate, was a lot of work to get it to this stage. have a new prop.set up now, in pusher config. is producing 270kg trust at 11 degrees pitch can't hang onto it to push it past that yet
