The musicianship of this is absolutely amazing, why does everyone else seem to only care about the vocalist? He's a great singer, but he's not the entire band.

I can vividly imagine myself in a medieval Nordic tavern with the local band playing this to celebrate a victory

This song was my introduction to Turisas. Even years later, it still gives me goosebumps. Though I'd say that Stand Up and Fight is their masterpiece.

As an E. Orthodox Christian & a former soldier here in the west I can most certainly understand why the varangian guard did what they did. If the Church put out the call I would come to her defense even now. my allegiance to God comes b4 all others.

Mathias Nygård has the best voice i ever heard...

The Varangian Guard was an elite military unit that was active for at least four centuries, so really there were several kings. The first Greek king they served under was Emperor Basil II. Hope that helps.
